Garbage on Torbay Rd We Love thee Newfoundland
Переглядів 17Рік тому
I've lived in Newfoundland for a total of almost 19 years now. For many Newfoundlanders, I'll always be a CFA (Come from Away). Fair enough, though I consider myself a volunteer and they happen to be draftees who had no choice in the matter. However, the Newfoundlanders will often go on at length about how much they looooovvvve Newfoundland and how it's home and all that rot. I'd hate to see ho...
In Our Hands

A 1950 US Propaganda Film about how it saw itself in a world surrounded by dictators and autocrats. It is actually kind of ironic some 72-years later. It is especially odd to look at this today and consider how fragile democracy is. The US was proud of what it had done. Embarrassingly so. The thing is that exactly what this propaganda film rails against is what is perhaps still in the process o...

The Rear Gunner 1943
Переглядів 5 тис.3 роки тому
The one in which Burgess Meredith (Yes, the Penguin) becomes a Rear Gunner in the US Army Air Corps. As a bonus, we have "Lieutenant Meredith" being coaxed into the job by "Lieutenant Ronald Reagan." The film was made in 1943 for the US government and is in the pubic domain. The US taxpayer has already shelled out for this one. I'm a little suspicious though. Do you think Ronald was trying to g...

Glühwein How To
Переглядів 413 роки тому
In this video you will learn how to make Glühwein (German style mulled-Christmas-Wine]) and a Feuerzangenbowle (Fire-Tongs-Punch [a loose translation]). It is not the most elegant artisan method. One might say that it is quick and dirty but still pretty tasty. As for the alcohol, well, it'll get you there.

Conservative Message Better than the News
Hollywood at its worst. No WW2 soldier would throw a cigarette away.
I just realised this guy was an American, who lived until 89. My ancestry is like this: Mum’s Dad: Hungarian Mum’s Mum: Scottish Australian Dad’s Dad: part German, Dutch Australian (tall man) Dad’s Mum: British Australian
@03:48 "Don't fool around with those Scotchmen they're tough babies." Aye, lad.
This guy eats lightning and craps thunder 😂
8:12 Unless you are dealing with a freeloaders. Some pepple would take advantage of others generosity. Or you get some who would refuse to take up your offer know tnat they cant buy you one back.
What's messed up is that he is dressed as a private, when in fact he was a Captain at the time. Where we go as one, we go all. God Bless Capt. Meredith.....God Bless.....
My grandpa met Burgess Meredith in Europe during the war. He didn’t care much for him, unfortunately. He said Burgess talked WAY too much and behaved very inappropriately. Whether that’s true or whether my grandpa was just being a stick in the mud, I’ll never know. I always wished that he had said he and Burgess hit it off and had a really nice conversation or something, since he’s a favorite actor of mine.
we dont drink beer "warm". we drink a pint of bitter at *room temperature* because it's full of complex flavours that wouldnt be appreciable if it was served ice cold. just like you dont serve red wine ice cold. we still drink lager ice cold. we're not ignorant
The Penguin demands cold brewskis! Waaawaawaa
He was the penguin! Wahamp Wahamp
These short films were part of the U.S. attempt to give the millions of American servicemen men an understanding of British culture…..each service man was also given a 60 page booklet of information too ……..compare that to the millions of immigrants from different cultures who now come in and get nothing to educate them on our values and traditions…..
Quack quack
I liked Mr Meredith. He was a fine actor.

A friend of mine and I were in London, 1996. After our work on a sort of "Habitat for Humanity" project, British style, we'd haunt the pubs and have a couple "bitters", and play pool and darts. It was obvious from our conversation, we were "Yanks". But our reception our mannerisms, and general JOVIAL acceptance, all worked such that we were "immediately" at home. Maybe the Penguin helped set the stage for us 50 years late?
Love how they showed the Scots restrained and staying polite against the insults by a rookie, only to later learn they fought on four fronts already.
0:15 “a club for men and women” Oh boy were you ever wrong. Pubs were for men to get away from women 😂. Every Englishmen knew that. Once.
I'm an outsider at my local pub and I've lived here for over 40 years.
Beer isn't warm. Lager gets cooled on it's way to the pumps and is usually about 2C or 3C. Mild and Bitter are not usually artificially chilled but as they are kept in the pub's cellar it is on average 7C. It only tastes warm because people are used to cold lager @2C, mixers like Vodka and coke, again served caround 2C. People are putting ice in their cider... Our beer is't warm. It's quite cold. But unfortunately other drinks that most people are used to is colder.
Used the old pig stick on Norm Macdonald.. what a guy..
"GET ME A BEER YOU SON OF A BITCH! Cos Mickey loves ya!"
So cute both of them
This is a great video
The Yank had the luck to meet the most patient scotsmen in the world :D
And after the dart game- comes time for the Buggery to start......
Классная погода! У нас часто так же бывает)
“You’re a bum rock”
I really love seeing old actors younger roles. Imagine Rocky meeting this version of Mickey. "Don't fool around with those Scotsman, they're tough babies, Rock."
"What the hell is this?" That's light beer "Jesus I weigh 93 lbs and you bring me this sloppin' foam" One of his best scenes ever.
Reminds me of Michael Rosenbaum! Great actor
These days, English politicians need to watch the same movie.
DO NOT think this relates to today's boozers. There'll be 3 to a cubicle banging the sniff, someone punching a fruit machine and some tramp getting bummed in the carpark.
Burgess Meredith has such a beautiful speaking voice, I could listen for hours
Thing about him talking about bitter and mild, though they now due to advertising laws can't call it mild anymore as its got the same alcohol content as bitter and more or less is the same price. But mild was known then as the cheap mans drink, as it didnt have the same process for brewing or least the ingredients were like a sort of knock down version of bitter. Is now called ale what mild was. Least is what a brewery tour guide said at the Black Sheep Brewery in Masham, an amazing rather smallish (is obv. bigger than the micro breweries) independent brewery in Masham, North Yorkshire.
Thanks for this context.
@@docwark By comparison I think you'd have loved the TV comedy Early Doors shame it never got more than two series, some of the script in it was comedy gold. The first episode of the first series ua-cam.com/video/RfCGtaQewSM/v-deo.html
“Difference between warm and mild? Well, one’s warm and one’s mild” Wise words
I bet he boxed someone in that saloon called Sailor Mike
Joke though it was, watching it for the first time today sent shivers down my spine. It’s 20 years before and uncannily accurate!
“Well England, here I am.” - me every time I leave my home.
Lenny, if I told you once I told you a 1,000 times, Burgess Meredith is the best actor who ever lived. ❤😊
Can I get a deal?
This scene is just so chill.
This is a house of ill reputes or something. Let's go down to the old gym.
i love this because its still true today
Yo mick
That's really weird.
That VOICE
You cut out the part about him talking about Reagan being president
This is the epitome of cool.
Americans could do with this sort education nowadays when dealing with our English cousins.
FUK USA.
