Alpacas - Training at liberty
United Kingdom
Приєднався 13 вер 2020
Alpaca Life is a channel about training alpacas to trust, welcome and love human contact. These videos (to come) document my progress with my little herd of 6.
Summer & Willow 10 and 11 years old, Baby, 7, Calypso and her daughter Topaz 5 and 3 & Milou, 2 years old
I started with Summer & Willow as young females. As typical alpacas, they were afraid of humans, running away from me, needed to be corralled and tied to be handled, resisted human touch by all means possible. It took me a while to lesser their resistance. Despite all my efforts, i still could not get close to them in the field. Until recently and by chance, I discovered a technique that earned me rsults in a very short time.
Each animal is unique with his/her own persoality and self-expression. They responded differently, some with ease and some with more reluctance. We are making progress together and the aim of this channel is to show our successes and the hurdles we overcome.
i hope you will enjoy the clips!

Close up of new born alpaca suckling
When going through my videos and photos recently, it reminded me of how many magical moments i shared with my alpacs. This is definitely one of them.
Milou was born a little early and he did not have the strength to get up on his wobbly legs. This was critical and time was not going to help, only food in his belly would. The easiest source of suitable warm mik was the mother. That was common sense and also certainly easier said than done. Knowing the shy and fearful nature of alpacas, the chances of me putting my hands on such a private part of the mother's body AND extract some milk from her teats were close to none. It was worth a try. So i tried.
Willow obliged straight away. There was no fighting, no tying up, not stress, just the open field, the members of her herd around her and her baby at her feet. She oblighed every single time and i successfully milked her and bottle fed her baby with this precious warm substance coming from her body. MIlou did very well on it and after a quick couple of days, he stood up and went to help himself!

How to use hand-held shears on an alpaca - Shearing Topaz 2021
Переглядів 1,7 тис.2 роки тому
In this video i show how to hold the shears in order to cut the fleece in a way that is safe for the animal and how to create a one piece blanket. I also explain why i prefer to use hand shears as opposed to electric shears. This video benefits from being watched on a full screen. Topaz spooked shortly after the last scene of this video and ran away dragging her coat behind her in a dramatic di...

Alpacas & water

We had so much rain fall that the excess water formed a pond in the field. Watch how friendly and relaxed they are interacting with me whilst enjoying a foot bath.

Nice and easy approach. Interesting to watch. Oceanside, California
Oh! Is that sweet Pita??? 😂❤
yes, it is! He was so cute and helpless. He turned into a little Devil a few years later! We have worked out our differences now. He is a lot calmer
Just so precious ... that must have been incredible to witness ❤
Topaz is GORGEOUS
Well done sweet cria!
Well, how did it take place? Want more of this!!! XX
A lot of patience, being very slow and making sure to approach them withouth an agenda.
This is so satisfying 😍
It really is!
They have wool in their eyes. Very uncomfortable and unpleasant for them..think they need to have a hair trim asap
This is like ASMR to me when people use hand shears to cut their alpaca’s hair.
I just love how calm the animal is and what a caring way that you do this.
My goodness! Bit speechless. Beautiful to watch and amazing in terms of the bond. I’ve just got two alpacas… they’re full of tude and we love that. Hopefully one day we can be like this! Great vid!
Wow, thank you so much!
Хоть с любовью стригут. А то повалят, свяжут,жуть...
I can't get over how long and thin their necks are after removing their fur/wool?/blanket? You know what I mean. Like a Dr. Suess character
This was so great to see. I love the Shearing videos of Katie and her wife. This is otherworldly
why not use electric shears This alpaca has such patience sit as you cut.. truly amazing. 👏👏👏
Because it is an aboslute pleasure to shear by hands. It is for her as much as it is for myself. The slow movement of the shears and the intimacy that builds up between her and me is all what it is about. It is not about taking the fleece off her back. It is about the relationship and the trust that is created from being together in such a way. Alpacas are not naturally prone to touch each other, not even their babies, but when they experience a loving touch, they know to recognise it. Topaz is happy or she would not let me so close to her and interact in such a personable way if she was experiencing any discomfort or fear within herself. So the fact she sits still for me only comes from a place of peace and joy. Therefore the exercise is not about the time it takes but about enjoying the moment and making it last. I hope that makes sense.
I think llama looks more cute than alpaca...sorry it is my personal point of view. Anyway honestly you are winning the hearts of these innocent animals...This is the first time I am seeing it is done without any tied force. .thanks.
Please turn up your volume, we can’t hear you!!
What a pretty red/brown fleece! Bet it carded up nice and spun out beautifully!
I'm happy that the animal doesn't have to be stretched
I can't tell you how happy this made me feel to watch! You have given me so much hope that one day I too can have animals and live in harmony with them. No killing or trauma, rather a symbiotic relationship based on love and respect.
Props to you kind owner!
Thank you!

THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE!!
When you have an animal this cooperative, yes
I can imagine the wool gets heavy for Topaz to carry around. She's beautiful.
Topaz is a beautiful color.
Thanks for sharing. Very cute video:)
Those look good for pillow filling.
I love them x
Thanks for sharing......🙏👠👠
That is so beautiful. I love the way he cuddles you.
So awsome what part of the UK are you based?
i am in Devon
You can just see and feel the love ♥️
Сколько стоит килограмм шерсти альпаки и возможна ли пересылка от вас
Why don’t you use electric shavers For sheering. Takes 3 mins or so? This is just a questions, less time, and less stressful for the animals. And I’m sure your hands have got to hurt by doing it by hand.
Maybe some animals find it more stressful cause the noise?
My knees would be killing me after this. ❤️
The way you interact with those alpacas is intuitive. You strike me as a woman who not only knows what they're thinking, but _cares_ about what they're thinking, too. This is evident in the way they respond to you. They're extremely receptive to your affection. Instant sub.
Why don't you hire someone to shore the lamas? Less stressful for them and about 30$ an animal?
Does this animal look stressed?
Why do you think it's less stress for a stranger to do it when she does just fine with her
The manual cutter seems so much less stressful and certainly less loud noise for the animal,(and person) than the electric sheers.
Good job. 👍 I hand shear my animals too in the spring. Cats and dogs, by fall, the nice fur is ready for winter. ✂️
Those were some big ass ✂️
This is one of the most amazing things I've seen! I love the relationship and trust you've built with them, and the care you take. I am simply gob-smacked that you do it this way with those shears... beautiful beautiful! (FYI, arrived here because I was watching another alpaca shepherdess' videos...)
Thank you so much Jillaine. It has been a long road and has taken me years to understand what to do. Alpacas are not the easiest of animals. They like to make it difficult - Bless them all!
Shear them, just as gentle, takes three minutes. Hug, kiss, pet, pat as much as you wish.
She did just fine.
💗
Do you raise them for their fleece?
🦙🦙💋💋💋
Alpacas are related to sheep right
They are camelids. They are related to camels and llamas
