    Where is the orifice tube? Looks like you can place it anywhere in the line. How do you find it in a dealer installed system? My system was vacuumed and I cannot get new refrigerant to go in. The compressor clutch is always on too. I thought it would be off after vacuuming until it gets enough refrigerant in it.

    Professor Info regarding 2002 ford ranger with missing orifice tube. Initially taken to Firestone for inop aircon. They replaced leaking evaporator & installed new accumulator/ dryer. Aircon was working but definitely weaker than normal. Returned it to them twice with no help. Decided to get gauges & do it myself. Readings with orifice tube missing were 43 / 125 psi with 55 degree outlet temp , equalization time 5 seconds. After installing orifice tube readings are 33 / 165 psi with 38 degree outlet temp , equalization time 45 seconds. System working great . Regards Lance

      Thanks for the reply and I am glad the video helped. I would like to share your scenario with my students. Would you be willing to write the story of your problem and what happen with the missing orifice tube so I can help train future techs about this. What did the your vehicle go in for? What did they do for the repair? What did the A/C do after the repair. Did they find the mistake themself , did you take it somewhere else, or did you repair the problem yourself? I am also writing an A/C textbook and may use this real live scenario in it. Thank you for giving back to those of us who put out free context for the good of the cause. P.P.

    Animation of this issue would be a great teaching method. You could show the restriction in the line at any given place - Condenser/TXV/Drier and so on. That would really help in understanding on how the A/C compressor interacts so to speak with a restriction through pressure or suction. I wish someone would do this.

    65° ambient temperature your low side should be at about 42 to 45 and your high side should be around 180 or 200... ASE certified here what you're showing me looks like an undercharge system did you verify that it is fully charged did you evacuate it and put approximately 2 lb of Freon in it... Fully charged system with a restriction will suck the low side into a vacuum in the high side will go right up to three 400 PSI I don't know what school you went to or where you got your certifications..

    • @ProfessorPentane
      @ProfessorPentane Місяць тому

      Well George, your comments are rude and unprofessional for an ASE A7 certified technician. I hate to embarrass you, but you have the wrong information. When there is a low side restriction, like at the TXV, the low side will go into a vacuum and high side will also drop. I have lots of videos to prove this on my channel, you should watch a few. Try putting Co2 or use a Duster Can of R-152a on the power dome while the A/C is on. The TXV will close and show you the low side drops and high side also drops. A restricted FOT will also not cause the high side to go to 400 psi. You are simply wrong my friend and I can prove you wrong . Just watch my video titled "How to test the H valve with Co2. You made my point on why I have this UA-cam channel, there is simply a lot of wrong information out there. Just to give you some of my street credit, I have been teaching A/C classes for over 30 years. I have taught for Chrysler for 15 years and 1,000 of techs have attended my classes. I am a current Professor of Automotive Technology at one of the top ranked automotive schools in the USA. Yes, I am A7 certified. I am the expert in A/C! Plus, I am writing a book on automotive A/C. Do your have more street credit than I, are you an A/C engineer? I don't normally respond to the hundreds of post on my channel, but you quested my credentials. Professor Pentane.

  • @georgethomas4195
    @georgethomas4195 Місяць тому

    How can you possibly test a system with only 75 PSI on the high side you should have approximately 50 on the low side and 225 on the high side depending on ambient temperature.. those pressures you saw look like a system that did not have enough freon in it I am ASE certified master and I would never try to diagnose a car that doesn't have the correct amount of freon you should have evacuated it and recharged the system to correct amount of freon... If it has a restriction it will pull the low side into a vacuum and the high side will go up to three or 400 PSI ...You're not working on my car pal...

    • @ProfessorPentane
      @ProfessorPentane 17 днів тому

      Sorry George, but you are wrong and do not know what you are taking about. If there is a low side restriction, the low side will drop and high side will go down, not up. Just watch my videos on my channel and I have lots to prove this point. A low side restriction, like in the TXV, DOES look like an undercharged condition. That is why I have this video. What you said is a common mistake by tech who really don't knowing how A/C works. I have heard it dozens of times before in the A/C classes I teach for Techs. Sorry.

    Thanks professor., just the scenario I am having now plus one more symptom - increase rpm slightly and pressure normalizes on both sides and cold air starts blowing. Basically I have no AC at idle or stand still traffick. I would not probably notice the issue but living in NYC, traffic is where average driver spends most of the time during summer. Is this additional detail points to the compressor or blockage?

    Hi. Just changed entire AC system(compressor, expansion valve, O-Rings, Condenser, and Schrader valves. On a Honda Accord 2.4 Liter. I vacuumed system out. Purged the yellow line of air, between Freon cans. The Low side reads 25 psi BUT THE HIGH SIDE READS 110-112!! Ambient outside temp was 65-70 dry conditions in AZ. What do the readings mean? I put a thermostat inside the car’s vents and temp read 40f! It was Ice Cold. Did I do everything correctly? Why is the high side not at 150-175psi?

    • @ProfessorPentane
      @ProfessorPentane Місяць тому

      Hi Michael, You caught me at a good time as I do not have time to respond to all of the questions from my UA-cam videos. Your gauge readings could be normal for a milder 70F dry day with. Was the engine at full operating temp? That will cause the reading to be lower if the engine is not hot. Try switching to the fresh air mode to see if the extra heat load will raise the high side pressure a bit. But I think over 150 on a mild day is normal if you are blowing out 40F. You will not know for sure until it gets nice and hot in AZ. Thanks for watching, P.P.

    Thanks I hope you’re still around … Dealing with a 2011 Jeep compass . The low reads hifh and high a little low . I’ve seen many people having issues with these cars and people mention the tool you’re using to adjust the duty cycle … I’m hoping it’s my txv or overcharge … It was properly evacuated, held vaccum passed leak test and proper ref was replaced . The readings after this was apparently normal readings . However later on the pressures flipped again .

Do you think I need to replace the compressor? This car has only 73 K miles, so why you think is leaking? I have a 2014 silverado and the ac compressor runs but doesn't seem to pump the freon around. Pressure on the low side is greater than high side which is odd. And... the cooling fans does not turn on when I turn the ac on inside the cabin. Fans work fine to cool the engine but not turning on for the ac. I unpluged the Pressure sensor and fans kick high speed. Any thoughts?

      I replaced the expansion valve and went ahead and replaced the compressor that had a small leak. I really think the expansion valve was stuck or some. The fans will not engage with too low of pressure on high side. At least It is what I could think of. As soon as I replaced the expansion valve and compressor and refueled, it kicked in and works perfectly now.
