I bought the best 997.1 I could find, 20k miles, full service history, PCCB, X51, spectacular condition. Then a few years later, I spent more than the purchase price, getting the motor rebuilt. The m97 is a terrible motor, plenty of built-in weaknesses.
Changed it at my black E3 Turbo. Looks great. In my city there are so many Porsches with colored logos, but just a few with Turbonite. Those who know, know. 👍
The monotone look is aging beautifully 👌
Love this video. Props to the base model. I bought my first Porsche 997 base with tip last year and absolutely love it. Love driving manual but I daily mine and my commute has lots of stop and go. The tip is still fun and at least I don’t have to worry about clutch jobs LOL.
Oooo really good point. Here in LA traffic, I wish I could switch to tiptronic sometimes

Lose the shitty pointless music. I would of watched but for the music.
It's mandatory to connect the wire to an android phone, to have waze, spotify and so on available?
Further question: Run Android auto is an option for PCCM+ ?
@@diogomendonca903 Yes you have to connect to a USB cable. I purchased this from amazon however, to add wireless carplay: a.co/d/fydTwBv And yes! pccm+ will support android auto!
How is the call quality? I have heard it can not use the mic in your car
Honestly, I took a call in it and the person who called me said it was not good. The package does come with a separate mic for install. I would highly recommend installing that
Claiming a 3" lift allows for more clearance and is great for off road performance, especially with IFS, tells me all I need to know. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Listen to Tinkerer's Adventure.
@@tire26 I’ve done up to double black diamond trials with the setup I have now. But your mileage may vary 🤷♂️
Most practical most i did on my 17 SR5 was a driver side A-pillar handle.
@@patrickkelly9721 I need to look into that! I miss the grab handle from my 3rd gen. Used to “throw myself” into the truck
The sad eyes are cool (not biased)
Definitely a product idea 😂
I rarely hear of anyone upgrading the brake calipers, and rotors with their lift kits even after adding more weight to the vehicle.
This is a good take. I didn't upgrade the brakes on mine and haven't really looked into it for the 5th gen. I know for the 3rd gen people had swapped in Tundra rotors and calipers which drastically helped their braking distances. Especially considering the 3rd gen had drums in the rear
Dude, what’s with the honking ?! Nice video but the trick is accelerating while releasing the clutch.
Lotta cursing 😅 And yes, I can say that I have gotten much much better with the clutch since this was recorded 😂
Loved your video. I just picked up a 997.1 Carrera 4. Must have watched your video about 10 times before making the purchase. Thanks and please post more vids about this car!
@@dr.sebastianrios2933 oh awesome! I’m so glad it helped and you liked it!
You won’t regret it. Honestly. Every time I walk casually up the the door, I’m excited. 997.2, 5 years ownership. My daily driver
Molle panels useful for quick access items so you don’t need to search thru totes. Tires and rails only things you really need
Great video. I have the same car and love it. Odd situation is that 997 owners have usually driven the cars like daily drivers. The M series BMW's are often tracked, strutted and whipped like an old horse. As an also BMW owner, you made the right choice and good that you are keeping up with the maintenance. Have fun.
Love the video! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
You had no PPI done before purchasing vehicle?
@@storkman I did not. This is the 8th car I’ve owned. When I buy cars I do a lot of research on the car itself and then take a look for obvious red flags - leaking oil, soot, smells, sounds, etc. Lots of people have different takes on this, but it’s worked out for me
My only regret is continuing to take it to Porsche for servicing. Maintenance records are immaculate. 147k miles and climbing.
@@RemyISnow if it’s still running then still worth it 🤷♂️
Porsche 997.1 and997.2 are money pit. Bore scoring will cost u $30,000 to rebuild the engine. So do your due diligence and get a bore scoring analysis done for $300 will save you $$$$
I agree that the best thing to do is get the analysis for the peace of mind, but I wouldn't necessarily call this car a moneypit. If you do run into the bore scoring, definitely. My 09 accord had more issues than this car so far though.
@@goingnowhere425 Trust me most of 997 all have slight bore scoring on it. I spoke to so many Porsche mechanics and they will tell you. It's a matter of time it will be a huge money pit!!! I wanted to buy a 997.2 and both came with bore scoring on it. If you want a 997, the Turbo is the way to go because it doesn't have that issue. It's too bad because the 997 is the best looking body and size and it will be the next modern classic 911!!!
$300? Where are you getting bore inspection for that cheap? It's lot more expensive than that with labor etc
Lever the lever 🧐
Lest you never shift the position of the shifter
looks like you upgraded to the PCCM+? how do you like it? what's the black dongle in the USB port?
@@NielsRoskam it’s amazing! Highly recommended and really updates the car. The black dongle is a USB Bluetooth adapter for wireless CarPlay. Unfortunately PCCM+ doesn’t support wireless, but the little black dongle allows you to have it. Just plug and play a.co/d/0Un36Mz
And you’re… going nowhere💀
😂😭
Hell ya man glad you enjoyed it, fuck the haters you had fun they just watched. 🤝😎
@@dbcoopr678 truly amazing - the engine, handling. Brilliant overall
Actually Toyota has parking guidance in their head unit. At least the 24 model did. For me, 4R is all about old school. So I'm keeping it-wired carplay works for me. If a head unit integrated all of the car stuff the OOTB head did I'd look into it harder.

I stressed over acquiring a GT model, or at least a GTS. I went to a dealer to look at another car for the wife and they had a 991.2 base w/ sport chrono and exhaust. While waiting went for a test drive. I loved it and now practically daily drive it in good weather. My neighbor stares at his Targa in the garage and is afraid to put miles on it.
I bought a 3.6 54 plate 2s.yes battery sounds standard.I've spent on three and bake pads.never had any problems for 9 yrs.I paid about the same. I will never sell.my smile is just like yours.
Hello, you mentioned playing music through bluetooth and curious if you can take a call on the system over bluetooth as well? Nice video!
You can actually! Yes
There's nothing like Porsche.😊
Bought my 997 GTS about 5 years ago. And still feel lucky that I own it.
Great video it’s nice to get an honest opinion l am thinking off getting one all the scary stories make me worried about getting one they do look really nice it’s like looking at a very attractive woman and the best part is it’s not depreciating in value it’s more likely to go up in value that makes it special as well did ever get but off buy the whole hype around IMS and bore scoring? Keep the videos coming and keep us updated. 🥂
@@jermainerobinson7098 will do!
Great video! I also own a 997.1 C2 base, manual, black on black purchased 3 years ago. I absolutely love this car, quick, responsive, love the hydraulic steering and the way it handles the road. No major mechanical issues; I had to replace an oil pan gasket, and the airbag module. I've done a couple small upgrades, a FabSpeed double cup exhaust to bring out the throaty growl of the angry flat 6, and new/modern radio/head unit that allows me to plug/play music from my phone. Had to replace all 4 tires, got a paint correction and ceramic coat. I spent a little more than you did; closer to $50k because it was a low mileage example, and I'm at around $10K total for maintenance and upgrades over 3 years. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. I'll also mention that the Porsche community is full of really cool and accepting people, despite what you read online. Join your local PCA and get out and drive with them. You won't regret it.
@@pegrathwol agreed about the Porsche community!! I love how Porsche accepts different builds and celebrates people appreciating their cars. Really good car culture
@@goingnowhere425 I'll also add that I really liked your wheels. Aluminium forged? I'm looking to replace my lobster claws.
@@pegrathwol They were the 19" Sport Design Wheels that were available as an option at the time when it was bought.
I purchased the same car - '08 997.1 C2 in April this year, and couldn't be happier! It had 228k km (141k miles) on the clock, but recently had a complete engine overhaul. The prices have gone up a little bit, so I got it for EUR 40,000 in Germany (I live in Europe). The asking price was around EUR 44,000 I think. I can see myself driving it forever. See you in SoCal! :)
Sounds like a sweet ride! Jealous that you get to test that thing on the autobahn though!
E46 has an inline 6 the 997 has a flat 6
Ah shoot. I missed that on the graphic, you're right.
I own a 997.1 C2. Steering is amazing. Sounds amazing. Get the sports chrono option and the throttle response will feel amazing too. Small & nimble. Not massive like the 991/2. Look cool. Get a manual. Triptronic is slow. Seal Grey best colour. Oh get a sunroof too for added ventilation and sense of space. AC is good though. You don’t need cruise control just a nice to have.
one of the last 'analog' cars to roll out. Manual shifts like butter. I actually call my personal one 50 shades of grey 🤣
I miss my 997 C2S 6 speed, what a machine. Once you get over the bore scoring fears they’re absolutely fantastic. Values are rising, which makes an engine rebuild more and more economically feasible though it’s not quite there yet. They don’t depreciate much either, I bought mine for $48k in 2021, put 10k miles on it, then sold it for $47k in 2023. Steering feel is fantastic, especially when you’re on ACH going 7 tenths. 997s are also much smaller than the newer models, I was shocked when I replaced mine with a 991.2 and it felt like my garage shrank. Never had a single issue during my 2 years of ownership, just basic maintenance and proper warm up procedures (driving off right away rather than letting the engine idle).
Right. And the rebuild will be necessary at ~100k miles for about $40K USD
@@aaronwindmiller4307 I've got 107k on mine and it's still going no tapping When i was shopping around i found one with 180k miles with no tapping

Really really easy to DIY
ive been looking at caymans for the past month. From my research multiple porsche mechanics and influencers have said that the ims bearing issue is rare in most cars and that it is really unlikely to fail in cars that have seen regular use, or with higher mileage. However, sadly, the bore scoring is not a matter of if but a matter of when, so make sure when buying check for soot in tailpipes, ticking noise on on startup, or smoke on start up (smoke can also be an air-oil separator issue)
this applies to all porsche cars in the 2004-2008 years
@@zakg4922 this has been my understanding as well. But the bore scoring is more likely to happen in cooler climates and less likely in places like Southern California 🤷♂️ Your mileage may vary (literally)
