Hidden Treasures
All these Mustangs were relevant at one time. Now they just rot to the earth.

Who Buys These . In UK U Would Not Get it INSUR > Cost u more then there Worth ?
I am sure many of them were sold for parts. Our laws on recondition cars may be different as well. Also, I forgot to mention in the video, they were selling for under $1500. The one I liked was $900.
@@midwaygaragewhat state is this?

Holy cow is right!
Cotter pin, not an Allen key or Carter key.
Nice; looks like you need to put on the rubber snubbers on the front beam.
Thanks! I just haven't got to it yet.
Another great video!
Great job! I'm adding this to my how-to library!
Close by where I live, there are probably over a hundred Beetles that are just sitting besides houses etc. Probably 85% of them are cars that have never left the desert. Rust free with cooked interiors, just waiting to be rebuilt. The owners never part with them. They are on their "to do" list. Frustrating to say the least.
I have seen this too many times. There was a place in Moab Utah that was pretty famous for that. I went there about 5 years apart and there was no way to contact the owner. Out of the blue last year his kids decided to sell all. ua-cam.com/video/z_PKqlXAanI/v-deo.htmlsi=XuES5ItEF40KPNKl&t=27
On most days I enjoy the extra content and if I'm in a hurry I always have the option to fast forward or come back later.. That is going to be a nice bug when you're finished.. Are you located in Canada? You might have told me before but I forgot... Well M.G. you take care my friend and God Bless...
Thanks. I am in Iowa.
I had the opposite issue. I've got a 66 that my friend and I put an original 64 front clip on (replacing a poorly fir reproduction). We also noticed the slight differences. Check it out at 3rd Stall Garage, if you like. I appreciate your videos as we have some similar work as you.

You didn't say the torque specs wtf
They are easy to look up. www.jbugs.com/VW-Tech-Article-Engine-Torque-Specifications.html
Great video !!! .............Wondering why you didn't install the gas pedal spring ?
Thanks, you can see it here ua-cam.com/video/3z8tgWynSIY/v-deo.htmlsi=x9qcfDjUtsxAtYu3&t=267
Also, I push-button door handles came out in 60 or 61.
A gas gauge was optional, starting in 58, maybe a little later, but was a rare option. It was round. The spring-loaded front hood came out in 1960, as did the deep-dish steering wheel.
Where’d you get the replacement panel?
CiP1 they have a nice diagram that you can click a link to get the panel you need. www2.cip1.com/tab-400-070/
I saw the reear shock absorber you're using is with coil spring. What does that do to its performance? How's the ride?
Well that one was no good, so I went back to a stock one.
I'm going to put disc brakes on my 64 and have to replace master cylinder, what master cylinder are you using?
You should get a Large Bore Dual Circuit MC. I got this one, www.jbugs.com/product/16-9554.html Keep in mind you will either need a new Brake Fluid Reservoir www.jbugs.com/product/113611301L.html?rrec=true Or one that sits on the top www.jbugs.com/product/17-2878.html?rrec=true
You need to do more videos on the vw engine design, thanks for doing this one!👍
Nice job👍
Ok
Great job on the patch. Great info here.
M.G. good to see you back in the lab again.. That will be a very nice bug when you're done... Wish you did more videos... See you next time on Midway Garage...
Thanks!
Growing up we had a 64. However, it was an early 64 so it still had the nose style license plate light.
nice!
You did a good job, and there is already enough experts that have chimed in here, but I have a question about the engine mount bolt behind the new dog house. I’ve changed all my older VW’s to the through bolt with the threaded insert in the case. Trying the take off the nut to pull the engine with the body on is extremely difficult, so the insert option makes it very easy. Just wondering what your plan is reconcile the problem. It looks you are still using the original style bolt and nut.
Thanks! you can see here ua-cam.com/video/7qPTon2QiOA/v-deo.htmlsi=nYtWs37banqIsaQc&t=641 the nut is on the transaxle side, so (in theory) if I remove the nut the engine should be able to slide back enough to get the bolt out.
please you come to pakistan ,islamabad for 20 beetles engine repairing
I see. I thought that these were cooled purely by the air rushing past like motorcycle engines.
That’s exactly how I plan to do mine. Thanks for the video.
M.G. good to see you back in the garage again.. That is going to be a very nice bug when you're finished.. See you on the next video.. Take care and God Bless...
The early models do not work. That way, there is lot tension on spring where connect to decklid it snapped backward in order to install you have forced back on with lid halfway close on your back and same time forced spring back on lid.
Nice video. I just pulled my body off on my channel. Can’t wait to put it back on. Subscribed!

It would help if I could see what u did to hook up spring
M.G. its good to see you in the shop again.. Are you going to repaint the car after you have all the body work completed? Thx for bringing us along on another adventure.. Take care my friend...
Thanks! Yes, I will try and find someone locally to repaint it. It will be bahama blue, the original color.
@@midwaygarage That will look beautiful.. Thx for sharing your journey with us...
That 58 is beautiful.
Thanks it was a lot of fun!
Fasteners are designated by their diameter, not socket size that fits them. So those "10 mil" bolts ate technically M6, and require a 10mm hex socket to turn. Thanks for taking the time to produce the vid.👍
Thanks! The MIG is an Eastwood 140 Amp MIG Welder. I wanted to get the best cost/value for my dollar.
Great Video. What is the MIG gun, Looked very interesting. Kudos for the PPE.
Your videos are too short, make them a little longer and you should be able to pick up more subscribers.
Good Suggestion. Part of the problem with this one was that I had lost some video, otherwise it would have had been longer.
M.G. it's good to see you in the Lab again... Is there any way that you could film a little closer.. I had trouble seeing what was taking place... Thx for bringing us along... Take care and God Bless... Btw, where are you located? There is a guy in Canada that you remind me of...
@@garyjones2582 Sure, the next video will be more detailed look at what I am working on.
THANKS!!
Even better: remote cooler in line with a full flow system.
How do you check/fill brake fluid reservoir after the body is back on the chassis??
Depending on which wheel you have, you can see it behind the wheel. To refill, you need to remove the wheel. There is a method of installing a tube into the MC and using the OG MC as a funnel. www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=724987
hoover bit ... You forgot your HOOVER BIT !!! And the foam to seal the air leaking out around the oil cooler
Thanks for the comment. Rest assured its good to go, many many things happen off camera.
Nicely done and I enjoyed hearing the walk through of your process!
Thanks!
67 had swing axle with the straight clutch arm. We change those all the time to the straight one and it doesnt hurt anything. Also when it it is the bent arm Once it is tensioned it wont interfere. Just a little hard to get the wing nut started. You will want the wing nut on there at some point . believe me. On clutch cables most of the problems happen in the tunnel behind the pedal assembly. That is where the most stress is. Sometimes in the back because people dont counter hold the clutch cable with vice grips or a 7mm wrench properly. Usually I use vice grips because with 1 hand I can hold them and spin the wing nut. With the Bolt style you cant hold both so it is easier to fray the cable.
Make sure you have all 9 shims in between the pully on the belt.....All 9 shims need to be in there or it will crack the pully. Some on 1 side some on the other side. But you need to have a total of 9......
not always , if you have a old J.C. Whitney witch hat spacer it keeps you from running out of threads .
I all my years in California back in the 1960s, I don't recall ever seeing a Beetle in yellow. Tan, yes! Blue [various shades], yes! Red, yes! Cream colored, yes! and Green, yes! But yellow!?
That car heater that uses the engine's heat exhaust to warm up the heat exchanger . . . _watch out_ for carbon monoxide poisoning, as that was an issue with the '67 Beetle I had.
Great Video.
That is the wrong master cylinder for when you remount the body. That one is made for a dune buggy; the proper master cylinder will have two lines stretching to the trunk to a tank to check the fluid level and keep it full.
That would be for a newer model. I want to clarify for those looking at this in future. This MC and reservoir was recommended by a lot of folks, you can see here on Chris' Classic VW channel ua-cam.com/video/-KYT7sv74Mw/v-deo.htmlsi=Dh8MlbQqo8bEXFhw&t=186 and this is the recommended Master Cylinder/reservoir from the manufacture of the disc brake kit as well www.cbperformance.com/product-p/113-611-015bdd.htm and www.cbperformance.com/product-p/product-p/6085.htm
I believe Airkewled makes a clutch adjustment tool called the 6 shooter and it makes adjustments very easy.. ck em out if you're interested.. thx for bringing us along.. Take care my friend...
Wing nut works great. 30 bucks for that is kinda high.
