In my humble & personal view, I would downgrade it to a four stage filter. (which isn't a bad thing) There's still plenty of stages to gain a full cycle. REASONS for downgrading this filter to 4 stages, rather than 5 are: I class the three different courses of foams as stages normally (Thick,Medium & Fine) which gives me a tally of 3 stages before hitting the media tray. The manufacturer of the #XY-2008 supplies two different media such as bio rings and gravel. In doing so, deems it another 2 stages. Which would add up to five. But because the media is supplied in the same tray I find it more of a marketing tool to potentially boost it's bio load and increase sales on this #GREAT #ECO-FRIENDLY product After reviewing this unique nano corner filter from #FINESTaquatics I was amazed how compact this filter was. The #XY-2008 corner filter impressed me with it's first three stages of filtration. The foams supplied with the filter were all good quality. in this video a show you a cheaper alternative for a under gravel filter system then the #MEGAFOAMS & #BIOGRAVEL but it won't be as effective as this one. It will still do efficient JOB! The idea of this filtration system is designed to keep the muck at the bottom of your tank before passing through your media and out into the tank via the outlet. This method is used in fry tanks but has a wide range of uses. Maintenance will still need carrying out, in the shape of gravel cleaning weekly or fortnightly. (gravel cleaner or turkey baster) The complete system will need a proper in depth clean at least once a year. That means taking the #fish #filter #media #plants out so you can then services the sponges and simply clean the sponges or replace with a new one. Holy Christ that tank is more filter than water, lol I'm amazed that the 3kg bag of Biogravel was almost enough considering how high bumps and valleys are on that type of foam but a normal gravel cleaner should be fine for cleaning it since it's very similar to the Biorb upgrades using the Biogravel. As long as the system gets a gravel cleaning every 1-2 weeks that should be all you need to do to remove any uneaten food and fish waste. I recommended that people do a deep clean on the upgraded Biorb tanks but as far as I know nobody does that since they go in weekly with a gravel cleaner.
