Приєднався 13 лип 2022
Here at Alfresco Acres you can follow along as we raise our children in an old-fashioned manner with new world conveniences.
Pastured meat is our specialty and you can watch us as we raise happy pigs, chickens, cattle, and turkeys on pastured and fed organically. We purchased an old farm and are updating it where we can do check out what we are doing!
Amanda works on child-raising, seed starting, gardening, harvesting, and preserving.
Eli works outside the home as well and works on different projects around the farm after he gets home from cutting wood, repairing/fixing, and updating the property.

Repotting cauliflower and broccoli for the spring garden and seeing Eli spring clean the animal barn to prepare for the new season ahead. Follow along with us as we revamp the new (old) farmstead in Michigan. We are going into our second year here and our 5th year raising pastured poultry and forested pork. We have added in steers and a milk cow as we also grow our family.
i'm glad to see you are canning and that you pressure canned your beans. I will say that one may really want to soak the beans ahead of times to wash away lectin's. Although some glycoproteins (lectin's) are not harmful, others can be toxic, including the ones found in raw beans.... the beans will cook in the jars so they aren't raw however the glycoproteins will end up in the jar liquid...I see (on a different comment) that you rinse your beans so that may not be an issue for you however since you are teaching others to can you may want to research this a bit more and add a comment or talk about it in the video. The lectins are also what causes people to get gassy after eating beans, if they are soaked and the soaking water drained off (or boiled) then they will go bye bye. Details are important in our canning world. Here is a link to an approved recipe which includes over night soaking or the quick method which is what you did in the past: nchfp.uga.edu/how/can_04/beans_peas_shelled.html
I found that if I didn't soak the pinto beans at least overnight, that the beans absorbed most of the liquid during canning & did not leave enough liquid in the jar. (If the beans are old, I soak them 1 or 2 days first.)
I soaked my black beans last time for an hour after bringing them to a boil and they absorbed the liquid but still turned out great. I always rinse them when I open so I don’t mind. My great northern beans didn’t absorb much liquid - there was still plenty in the jars but I noticed they only fill 1/2-3/4 of the jar so I think I’ll use more beans next time.
What’s your opinion of the HeatMaster (of comparable model)?
When we were looking around I joined a few groups it was kinda crazy the info you could see on Facebook and how quickly several of the same guys would comment bashing anything other then heatmaster or crown royal. I didn’t like the design and issue I repeatedly saw people having on the groups from those two brands. There’s a neat comparison a fella in Canada did a month or two ago putting a heatmaster against a portage and main ( the “conventional” stove of the polar company) its title is PortageandMainBoilers versus Heatmaster : An Observational Case Study 2023 | Part 1 of 3 or it was posted to polar portage and main Facebook group. Prof is in the puddling. Let me know if you can’t find it!
Great review, I’m actually looking at polar once my portage and main optimizer 250 takes a crap. Brian is a great guy, I talked to him about my portage and main and he’s very nice and tries to help. What model do you have?
Thank you. We have the g3, g2 might have been enough but I like to be sure!
@@alfrescoacresfarm I bought a G3 as well, because I wanted to "be sure". I bought mine two years ago for a cabin we're building, but haven't even hooked it up yet. New subscriber.... Thanks for the nice video.
Thanks for the honest revue. I've been looking at getting an outdoor boiler. I like the idea of Gassifacation boilers but am unsure of the learning curve. I agree with you that company and dealer service are important. It must be great to actually talk to the company owner and/or a knowledgable rep.
Welcome, thank you! I was a little concerned about gasification but the manual adjustment for the air made me a little more comfortable with the polar. I wasn’t overly concerned because we have always burned inside so that obviously requires dry wood so it wasn’t a large change for us, but most say outdoor boilers eat wood but this boiler has done excellent. It was refreshing dealing with heatsmart( the main headquarters for portage main/ polar) in this day in age their personal interaction was refreshing.
Thank you for sharing information about how to make cream
Dangerous video: makes me want a cow!!
Way to go frans!
Why does it look clear?
Sap is clear and you boil it to remove the water and it gets darker as the water is removed. It takes quite a lot of sap to make syrup! Very yummy
I would like to try that.
Awesome dad
God I love that sound respect of a child
Awesome! I’m so proud of you Eli! We will come shop this summer!
