      The great majority of the time, I would say this is true. Shinto, Hindu, Buddhism -- they are all ethical systems, and so their character (and value) remain unaffected by anything outside themselves. People either find them meaningful, or they don't. The two great exceptions are Judaism and Christianity, because they affirm that their faith is grounded in a book that claims divine origin -- and that book is filled with historical material. If that historical material is not accurate, then the claim to divine origin is false (how could God lie?) and the religion collapses. If, then, the Genesis account of creation is not factually correct, people can look elsewhere for religious truth. It won't be found in the Judaeo-Christian faiths. Thus, these faiths are ineluctably bound to history and to objective fact. Hence, the importance of the Webb to Christian/biblical faith.

    Jesus was born on Sunday, March 1, 7 BC. The 'Star of Bethlehem' was not an astronomical or cosmological event. Joseph (Jesus' father) formed an alliance with Theudas, head of the Theraputes. The 2 in warrior mode gave themselves titles drawn from an OT verse. Joseph was the 'Star' (of David) and Theudas was the 'Scepter'. The West Manassah Magi were a priestly caste of Samaritan philosophers. They were founded by Menahem and later led by Simon Zelotes. When they 'followed the star', they were agreeing with Joseph that a new Davidic king had been born. Because they recognized him as king, they were accepting him as legitimate.

    That is true, do not bet against the Bible, even the King James version which is translated from the Leningrad codex primarily. Which erases about 650 years old testament history. It is still primarily true. And the vast majority of stories are unencumbered by much except the translations certain words, but you have the original Hebrew to fall back on if you are concerned about how something is actually to be interpreted. Ezekiel chapter 37 includes a book tickets added to the Bible about the time of the coming together of Israel which certainly hasn't happened by the time of Christ. We find that the same type of archaeological finds that are showing that the Bible is true, are also happening in the United States, confirming the Book of Mormon. A book that does not conflicting with the Bible and any realistic sense. I could very well just be an expansion of the capability of the son of God. Unless you're of the mine to say that he wasn't capable of such things. Being American Indian, I know of the old traditions that we came here by boat. How is it that without contact with Indians directly a man with a third-grade education wrote that same thing he also wrote the Book of Mormon in chiastic script which wasn't even recognized has a Hebrew writing structure until 1937. Interesting how these things come about. Even if you don't believe in the church that touts the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon belongs in every Christian denomination on the planet.

    1) Mario originated as a created object therefore its only method of evolution is intelligent design. 2) Organisms evolved from natural selection and random mutation. Therefore, intelligent design is not required for evolution. 3) Humans only have ONE species. There are no more neanderthals or homo Florencia. Our color differences are like cats giving birth to different colored cats, not different species of cats. 4) There is evidence that animals have evolved into different species, but it would obviously take millions of years. Two years in a lab is NOT equivalent. 5) Just because Dawkins couldn't answer (a very technical) question does not mean that there is no answer. How many unanswerable questions about religion are there to the point where a universal cliche exists about "the Lord works in mysterious ways?" I can come up with a few hypothesis for gene complexity. There are micro organisms with 200 times the genetic information as a human. There are viruses with far more genetic information than a human. The nature of viral reproduction is the mechanical disassembly and reconfiguration of DNA. Viruses follow their own model, but a mutated virus might not stop at its own model. Viruses don't have the emergency stop measures of complex cells, that's why they are viruses. Tomatoes have more DNA than a human. Many DNA sequences are common to most living things, plant or animal. It was proven in the 1970s that environment, like diet and chemical exposure influences DNA. So DNA is constantly readjusting from one living thing to another. Maybe more radical environmental changes produce more radical DNA changes and maybe this possibility just hasn't been researched yet. Is there a way for you to research why God killed innocents on mass several times in the Old Testament despite his benevolence? Is there a way for you to research why an all powerful all knowing God would need humans to fight his battles for him?

      Thanks for your comments. I'll only mention two items. 1. My point about Mario is that people frequently misuse the term evolution to refer to things like Mario that are, as you said, created by intelligence. 2. The question Dawkins couldn't answer was not at all complex, especially the part that requested an example of information added to the genome by some evolutionary process. If it can happen at all, there should be countless examples ready-to-hand.

      @@geraldculley2581 I agree that it is a good question, but answers "ready-to-hand?" Are you implying that any and all molecular microscopic things should already be known? The list of things not yet known is far greater than the list of things known at the molecular scale. Evolution has almost a billion year head start on science, give science some time to catch up.

      @@geraldculley2581 [GERRY]: "The question Dawkins couldn't answer was not at all complex, especially the part that requested an example of information added to the genome by some evolutionary process." This question is a perfect example of how folks can look at a forest without seeing any of the trees. Reproduction and cell division are two evolutionary processes that add information to the genome in at least two ways during the reproductive cycle itself, NOT as a result of alterations due to outside influences like chemicals or ionizing radiation: 1) Imperfect reproduction Estimates of successful mutations (mutations that do not kill the organism) due to "imperfect" reproduction in a single reproductive cycle range from about 60 to about 200. Multiply this by the number of organisms in the population of a given species, and the number of mutations in a population grows to hundreds of millions. 2) New combinations Offspring only inherit half of their chromosomes from each parent. Therefore, the resulting offspring is a combination / pattern of genetic material that has not previously existed, and so is new information. Both of these mechanisms add new information -- i.e., patterns that have not existed before -- to the genome. [GERRY]: "If it can happen at all, there should be countless examples ready-to-hand." Lol. There ARE countless examples, and they're literally staring you in the face! No two organisms are exactly alike -- each can be uniquely identified through DNA. No two humans look alike, and even identical twins can be uniquely identified through their DNA. Every human that looks different from you is new information. And that's only counting the mutations that produce easily visible effects. IOW, literally every single organism in a population is a mutant with respect to every other organism. This means that, instead of having a lack of new information to work with, there's actually an abundance of new information to work with.

    No offense, but this is like the apologists who come out in defense of "supposed contradictions" and bring out a list of things that no one says are contradictions while ignoring the actual contradictions in the bible. I was not indoctrinated to believe in any particular religion and therefore never started out believing in gods, but I have read the Bible and am quite aware of the criticisms usually leveled at the Christian religion. I have never heard any other atheist question the existence of the temple. Not even those who say that Jesus never existed. Putting that aside and the fact that you've given as an example of "skeptics" two people who believe a guy split the moon in two because their Magic books say so, it is the case that a lot of the arguments and reasoning in this video are really lousy. Several times you have used the reasoning of "if Olympus wasn't a real place, why would Zeus go visit it when he wasn't on earth doing his thing?"

It’s not embarrassing that no one knows. It’s just an unknown in science. Something YEC is very uncomfortable with ... but any reasonable scientist lives with every day. This is a pointless argument. Thanks for your response. I'd like to hear more from you on this topic. Assuming that Dr. Lisle is wrong about whether star formation has been observed, there must be credible testimony that it has. I would like to see that. And furthermore, I'd like to see your response to the three arguments presented in the video: gas in space, Boyle's law, and the laws governing a rotating object. These are not someone's opinions, but settled laws of physics, and any one of them militates against the scenario of star formation.

Sometimes my “self” gets the best of myself when I see something that upsets me and something that upsets me is when Christian organizations like AIG make up stories that just don’t hold up, but they are “good enough” for many people so they never question it. Then those who do suddenly realize many of these arguments they thought were factually based are really not solid. hence when someone presents real, observational evidence, it has the potential to destroy you. That’s what happened to me. I was a big fan of this ministry until I realized what I stated above. If scripture contradicts clear observational evidence. It doesn’t mean scripture is wrong. It doesn’t mean that nature is wrong. It means there is something we don’t understand. With one of them. With our current knowledge I think there’s something we don’t understand about the textual nature of Genesis 1-11. It’s definitely not literal, nor was it written to be. By probably something along the lines of mytho-history where mythological elements are mixed in with factual truths. It was definitely not written to be a science textbook.

    The Wise Men could not have come from Babylon. That city had been deserted for several decades by the time Christ was born. Note that Matthew tells us that the Wise Men were happy to see the star again after they left Herod. If the star was Jupiter, then you have to explain why the Wise Men took a long time to go from Jerusalem to Bethlehem. Jupiter has a cycle that means it has a period in which it cannot be seen from the earth, followed by an appearance just before sunrise. As near as I've been able to find out Jupiter had such a sunrise appearance in October of 2 BC. But, if Jupiter didn't appear over Bethlehem until the following December, it means that the Wise Men didn't need to follow it since the priests had already told them to go to Bethlehem. As small as Bethlehem was, the Wise Men could have simply made the trip there from Jerusalem and asked around to find out who there had recently had a baby.

    • @geraldculley2581
      @geraldculley2581 3 роки тому

      Thanks for your comments. Sources differ as to whether Babylon was actually deserted after ca. 25 BC; its importance was certainly diminished. But this theory of the Star does not require that the Magi came from Babylon itself -- only that they belonged to the ancient tradition to which Daniel had contributed. And regarding the timing of the Magi at Jerusalem and Bethlehem, the town is of course only 5 miles south of Jerusalem. Once told about Micah 5:2, they could have gotten there the same day if desired. Jupiter was, however, visible in the south over Bethlehem in December (as you say, it had been visible since October). That the Magi saw it enroute to Bethlehem was simply a bonus -- a confirmation, and its going into retrograde on December 25 was very nice timing (if not meaningful for them, it can be for us!)

    If the philistines are Trojans then they're Luwians , but Luwians didn't worship Dagan. Canaanites did. This sounds like elements of different cultures were brought together to produce a story, using a foreign cultures customs (the Greeks, but NOT the "Trojans" who were Luwians.) to support a political power play against fellow Canaanite' Mesopotamian peoples by replacing Dagan, who was, at one point identified with El. So it could be that the the Hebrew Author knew, because he read their books or listened to their stories. and then created a myth to instantiate Israelite dominance over a tribe that worhsipped Dagan, after destroying them, and their records. Evidence of this comes in the form of Rashi's writings wherein he attempted to turn Dagan into a half man/half fish, which was then done AGAIN by Rabbi David Kimhi. Some assert this to be a simple mistake, but there exists a pattern of this sort of aggressive "Borrowing" from other cultures, such as constructing much if not most of Genesis from the Elements of Older, Sumerian Enumah Elish, and Atrahasis stories, I think what happens is that there is a practice of offense, aggressive synchrotism trying to bring their elements into the Bible in such a way as to be shown to be subservient to YHWH or Israelites in some way or another. They do this with Ba'al, too, iirc. Its a shame we don't have the philistines records of this, which is odd considering, if they WERE Luwians, they would have mastered writing well before this and would have recorded it.

    The earliest greek manuscripts don't have the longer ending of Mark, the comma Johanneum or the pericope adulterea . This dosen't take away from any doctrine. I personally would't preach through them but don't have a problem if someone does. Many sound brothers take the TR posisition but many don't. As long as you're not one of the KJV only cultists this isn't a matter to divide on. Hopefully archeolgists will find an early greek manuscript with the ending, if not then we'll have to wait on the Lord's retun. Shouldn't bother a believer if they understand the Christian doctrine of preservation in regard to scripture, textual critism, and the difference between transmission and translation.

    • @geraldculley2581
      @geraldculley2581 3 роки тому

      After having believed that the longer ending was spurious for many years, I've found Dr. Lunn's arguments convincing. As for the oldest manuscripts, he shows that the Sinaiticus and Vaticanus scribes both knew of the ending, but omitted it for two different reasons. And given that Irenaeus cites it explicitly ca. AD 180, earlier than any mss. that omit it, I think he is on solid ground. The different views scholars hold should not be cause for a division, of course; here, we may differ as brothers.

    There are many English versions that are accurate enough to be trusted for general reading, though not necessarily for close study. I use different versions from time to time. In the case of this video, quotations are from the New International Version.

    What version of the Bible do you use

    I have to confess ignorance on this question. Given the fact that place-names have changed in many instances, it's not surprising that so many historians have offered contradictory reconstructions of the route.

    Is there evidence that the children of Israel crossed the wilderness of the Red Sea and were trapped at Nuweibaa and it was there that Moses parted the sea?

    What about Proverbs? Wouldn’t that prove that Solomon was wise? If it were proven that Solomon wrote Proverbs (or at least all but the last two chapters), then that would be proof of his wisdom

      Hello, Caleb. You asked about the date of the crucifixion. Not everyone does agree about the date that Jesus died, but I personally find the reasoning behind that date to be convincing. There's quite a bit behind that conclusion. Perhaps the most direct way to see the evidence would be to access www.bethlehemstar.net and click on the "Study" menu. One of the selections then is The Day of the Cross. Rick Larson is an attorney, and not an ancient historian, but he has assembled the evidence in a way that I think is quite effective. Best wishes! It’s Joshua “fought” the battle of Jericho. Not “fit”😂 No biggie tho

      You'd say "fought" and so would I, if I were writing the song; but it's an old african-american spiritual, and that's the way they composed it...

      Gerald Culley Oh ok. That’s interesting. Another history lesson for me today. I just knew that “fit” was improper English so I didn’t think it was correct. But that’s cool. Thanks

    This helps show critics that the Bible is true and it clearly shows that Sodom was destroyed by fire from Heaven
