      @steelhelmetstan7305 There would had been a variety of game bird designs. Germans have a long history of shooting at birds throughout the years. Since medieval times people have been shooting at game targets like this. It just comes from there hunting cultures and game shooting etc in Germany. Funny enough people have been using birds as targets since Romans times. Cheers Stan, take care mate 👍

    Has there ever been an attempt at creating a .50 lmg / man-portable machine-gun?

    • @aaronswarhistory
      @aaronswarhistory 10 днів тому

      @Tailssonic1999x Not that I know of.. The 50cal featured here is very long. During the war they were cutting the barrel so it was shorter. It could be moved by hand, but it would need a team of men. 50cal is intended to be a heavy calibre against armoured targets that can't be destroyed by small arms rifle fire etc. So to make it portable or as a lmg would defeat the object of having 50cal.

Ebay love it when people are selling something that they've misdescribed. Bargain hunter 😎 got a reissue kregsmarine gasmask the other week on eBay. I wasn't a soldier but I was in the boy scouts back in the day and we'd beg, borrow and steal C - Rations to take with us on our hikes. The peanut butter was a popular item for us and it tasted just like the regular peanut butter that we bought in the commissary, which wasn't unusual as both the civilian and army peanut butter came from the same manufactures. Good review on the VSM; my father received one for his army service in Thailand.I

    I had to look up when the English started their Air Force, bc in the US the AForce was still part of the Army even during the 2nd world war. But the Brits did indeed start their RAF, Royal Air Force, in the beginning of April 1918. Which means that they were only used for the last 7 months of the war.

    • @aaronswarhistory
      @aaronswarhistory Місяць тому

  • @Jake-z3f

    I was born right at the end of WW2. Lots of family I never met because we had had only photographs of heroes. One who survived having been declared unfit for combat. But found himself working for the War Office helping to produce what was essentially propaganda. No TV of course, so their output ended up on radio or in cinemas. He always maintained that - if they didn't tell the whole truth - they never actually lied. One project, for both radio and cinemas, bore the message... "Today, too many of our young people sacrificed everything - for you. Not just their lives, but whatever their lives might ever have produced. Lost futures, lost wives, lost husbands, lost children, lost opportunities to rebuild when this is all over. What did YOU sacrifice today?" That message was adjudged too grim to release to the media. Today I'm not so sure it shouldn't have been. Perhaps... even today?

    • @aaronswarhistory
      @aaronswarhistory Місяць тому

      @Jake-z3f That's an interesting way to find a loophole in a lie, propaganda is powerful! Especially in War. Have you researched family members? When you consider the behaviours of The White Feather Movement it makes you think why the government didn't just release a statement like that. But essentially in my opinion I'm guessing they thought it was too strong and would have the opposite effect of people not wanting to enlist. Cheers and Merry Christmas!

    Do the figures for Christmas Day 1914, 15, 16 and 17 also include soldiers who died away from the front line from injuries they received there in the preceding days, weeks or months? Surely soldiers died from their combat injuries for many, many years on Christmas Day after the end of hostilities, not just in 1918. My paternal grandfather died in 1966 as a result of an attempt to fix a leg which had been broken by shrapnel while on front line duty 50 years before, which had been incorrectly set at the time.

    • @aaronswarhistory
      @aaronswarhistory Місяць тому

      @johnbowmer5698 The figures include everything. I just wanted to make sure there was clarity as to why I was mentioning Christmas 1918 despite the war ending a month earlier. I'm sure they did. But that's how the Commonwealth War Graves have recorded it as on there records. Interesting! Thank you for his service. Have you done any research on him?
