This is a PvP Server
I had the idea before Griz's stream today (ua-cam.com/users/liveK3SGYLq9dUs?si=0ftV-2OVMl9cOUgG), I've just been busy for the past week.
Sif is harder than I remember.
Apparently you have to show your face to google to have links to external sites and then wait for 24 hours. I showed my face, but I'm impatient. If you want to check the article, the substack is plantmoretrees, article is "The God Mask Elephant Game".

Possibility Space Exploration
Переглядів 23721 день тому
How do we explore possibility spaces? How do we reduce the associated cognitive load? How do we make decisions once we have mapped the space? Beat the Moonlight Butterfly with Beatrice's help, accidentally one-shot the halberd Black Knight, was so shocked I forgot to grab the Grass Crest Shield. So I'll need to grab that and the Wolf Ring at some point. Pardon the random windows noise around 20...
Stuck and Unstuck

Why it's okay to be stuck and how to work on getting unstuck. I totally would have killed them on the first try if I had swung instead of trying to drink from an empty flask. Hindsight.
Motivations

Some thoughts on my motivations for this channel, for TLC, and for my life more generally. So, um, uh, like like like I swear I ran through my outline before recording. Talking while playing is hard. Backseat gaming and requests are encouraged!
Coincidence
Переглядів 72Місяць тому
Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern. I guess it has to be a coincidence before it can be a pattern. A much more rambly second pot. Lots of administrative notes, an attempt to talk about the gaming couch, more of a talk about learning attack patterns, how to anticipate your opponent, and learning through failure. Forgot to say it during the video, but backseat g...

A journal to my future self that starting things is hard and it's okay to fail. Thanks to @PresidentFoxman for helping me get going.
Play Outward Definitive Edition with your partner. Tis a souls like survival with split screen coop
1:10:53 I think for me, unlike typical corner types since I grew up in a completely secular household, the journey to nihilism was less of a rejection of any particular religious tradition, but more of tearing off the chains of the mythological American dream. Hitting bottom and letting go of those narratives was when I could finally accept myself and be genuine instead of wearing the mask and chasing the goals that others had constructed for me. As this was in the mid 2000s the rejection of religious thought as just another grand narrative all bound up with that particular American mythos that only leads to pointless wars and good people dying for no reason was a natural bridge over to "new" atheism at that time as well. Nailed it about the bridge between the East and West. The SMT theme of Order / Chaos is a good starting take on balance, but without another axis of alignment to determine and orient toward the good you're left with a somewhat flattened dualism. Even within the series you have examples of tyrannical order which is clearly evil coded, and a kind of flawed idealism within chaos. I think the philosophies of the East, particularly the Dao, deal much better with the role of the individual within order and chaos, and the philosophies of the west generally do better at identifying the good, but neither are complete without the other.

Didn't mean to sidetrack you so much with my comment. I wasn't able to have the audio on since we were doing our family Thanksgiving this weekend since Nate's got surgery on the day before Thanksgiving, so I couldn't hear your follow up questions about it.
@@Slackarius All good, I'll be keeping him in my prayers
@@AphraelPilotson Tis appreciated.
1:22:00 Your tactical blunder this time was entering the boss arena. This was a mistake.

Just replay the sound I made at that time stamp.

@@Slackarius 🤦♂️ just end me
Greed. I think there's a good lesson about greed in the DS games somewhere. Somewhere around trying to get two swings in on Sif instead of getting that shield back up. (You did end up covering this in there near the end)
18:35 "He hits very hard." Confirmed.
Yet another Slacksouls story. First time I found my way to Sif, I had no idea what was there. Going through the forest and get invaded. I bravely run away, and apparently the door you have to open to go into the grave area isn't there when an invasion is happening and Sif's intro cutscene can't be triggered either. So I'm hiding behind the grave (bravely) and eventually the invader gets bored and leaves (my big brain PvP strategy is to waste as much of their time as possible), but then I'm immediately thrown into the fight with the goodest doggo in the entire series. And one shot him. To be fair I think I was much deeper (and higher level) into the game by that point too since I was way too cheap to pay the souls to open up that area as early as you did.
15:34 I'd recommend not letting him hit you. Then hitting him with your sword until he surrenders.
@@slackarius5629 "Surrenders"

You should open up a stream yard as you're playing and have people come in and talk...
I've just been using OBS so far. Doing a campout with Noah and friends today, but I'll try to stream next Saturday. We'll see if I'm brave enough to drop a link 😅
@@AphraelPilotson I have a game that may be good for virtual couch gaming. I’ll mention it at camp
OBS,... havent use that too much but that sounds interesting
I didn't realize you had TLC shopbtalk going on as you played 00:21:48
When you are doing pvp with a developer, you better hope they are benevolent
@PresidentFoxman I dunno, based on my game choices I tend towards masochism 😅
@@AphraelPilotson Dark Souls is not quite masochism. I’ve been watching reviews of an old jrpg where you are required to wander around a dungeon for four hours before you can move on in the story. I’m glad that time gates as a mechanic are not a common trope
@PresidentFoxman I was thinking more of trying to figure out Dwarf Fortress and Better than Wolves. Although I am a little interested in trying The Longing.

What's that bit where you turn human?
@GrimGriz Oh, you'll love this one. You sacrifice some of your liquid humanity to reverse the hollowing process. Just bear in mind "humanity" might be a bit of a misnomer. I'd recommend taking a look at how it mechanically interacts with other parts of the game via the wiki, and maybe reading the relevant dialogue of the Crestfallen Warrior.
It’s all about priorities
One minor correction from yesterday's comments, it was the Zweihander that carried me through most of the game, picked up by bashing my face against the skeletons outside the catacombs first instead of going the correct way. The butterfly boss was my first one-shot in this game as a caveman brained melee guy, but I had no idea Beatrice was there and just how comically different that fight goes with her present.
@@Slackarius "Unga bunga, Grug swing big sword, make big moth go away."
@@AphraelPilotson I regret nothing.
5:06 like Dan Gheesling and his 0 vigor run of Elden ring
@@PresidentFoxman Can't say I've watched it. Key takeaways?
@ Sheer will, optimism and good vibes can get you a lot further than you think
18:52 It's Pancake time! Though I'm much more of a Claymore guy myself.
@Slackarius Supposedly the Zweihander and Greatsword have a slightly faster swing speed that makes stunlocking more consistent, but I don't want to pass up the opportunity to use the BNG. Although I will have to figure out secondary weapons for confined spaces.
I eagerly await the invasion portion of the series and the spontaneous commentary that develops in its wake.
@Slackarius Ugh, the worst part is I'm going to try and do the other friendly summons, so that may very well happen.
8:00 is a perfect example of a supply chain failure with catastrophic consequences.
More of a counting and brain failure. I should have known I was out and not tried to drink, and watching it back could have gotten a hit in and maybe killed or at least staggered. Every time I open Dark Souls is a learning experience, especially since I didn't play a ton of games growing up.
Back in my day faceroll referred to the ease of which an opponent was defeated
@@Neal_Daedalus Yep, and I do make reference to that original meaning. I've seen it used in a more derogatory way in League of Legends to be critical of players who think they can do that same technique against people (instead of NPCs) and still expect it to work.
@ LoL was juuust after my time
10:55 it’s not you who gets you unstuck- it is God outside of yourself once you allow yourself to be changed by the stuck
@@Neal_Daedalus I'm not so sure. There's definitely an aspect of the divine spark in that sort of growth, but I don't think we're supposed to just let Jesus take the wheel. I think we're called to be co-creators with God, whatever that means.
@ i believe it’s ‘both/and’z But the thing outside of you comes first. Then you choose within yourself to accept it
@Neal_Daedalus Maybe? While I do have some curiosity of how things came to be, I'm much more concerned with figuring out what to do with them now. I can leave unknowns unknown, and have faith that the answers will come in time.
8:35 no- because the agent (the player, the One outside the game) is the one being changed

Aphrael and the Gargoyles 🔥
You'd think the fireball would do good on a group
@GrimGriz Only if you can toss it in the middle of them. There are larger pyromancies that I can get from Laurentius, but he's not until after the Capra Demon, since I'm trying to play the normal path on this run.
The game mechanic stuff at the front is boring. The gameplay is the background.
@@GrimGriz I'll take it under advisement, but using the gameplay as a framework/example of how to effectively think through problems is part of what I'm going for. I'll try to keep it minimal, but I think it's important to bring up technical details, even if it is just in passing.
@@AphraelPilotson then do an opening minute monologue in from of the campfire before getting into game mechanic problem solving?
@GrimGriz That's fair. If the focus is the dialogue, then that should be how I open the video, then cover gameplay briefly before diving back into dialogue. I'll try that for the next one.
Waking up Monday before the election....amd I see you storming the castle. There is hope.... Now for more coffee
"Think it'll work?" "It'll take a miracle."
✨🚀
Ah, the classic blunder. You made the mistake of letting the second gargoyle reduce your HP to 0 before you could do that to them. My recommendation would be to panic and throw fireballs randomly and hope they don't roast you while doing so.
@@Slackarius ah, a flame war, I should have thought of that
Didn't you totally parry him last time?
@GrimGriz Different black knights have different swords. The one in the hallway has a short sword, the one on that tower had a greatsword. According to gamefaq, the greatsword is parry-able. The more you know!
