A very complex subject indeed to get right using Simpson tuning. As a change ringing, to me the absolute Jewel in the Taylors Crown are Yorkminster cast in 1925. I dont know why but pre war Taylor bells were really amazing, just listen to the heavy back bells at Yorkminster, the tenor has that magic drone to it in common with so many heavy Taylor bells Worcester Cathedral, Invarary and the fabulous heavy Taylor 8 atcWestbury are all classic examples of the Taylor drone.
Thank you Mae.
Hummmmmmmmm?
Great vid, My Father in law worked for APV metal works, and said even up to the 1970;s that if only 10 people died that year in the Foundries etc, it was a good year!! nowadays, and rightly so, if one severe accident happened all hell would break loose
Wonderful positive comment for the Algorithms
But did Bill get his coffee? 🤔
Brilliant!
The supernatural ghosts etc., the stories exist to scare people, to stop them from going into places they should not. 2024 we 'all' ahem, now know ghosts & the supernatural do not exists but pre Victorian times, spreading a story that a place was haunted and protected by the supernatural was a sure way to ensure the location or a building and its contents were kept safe. Now, Religion. Yes, 'putting the fear a God, any God into people' is why Religions came into being. Ghosts the supernatural & Religions all there and exist to control the gullible masses.
Ha! With my Cockney accent, they'd have sussed me straightaway!
…. I hope bill fixed his cooler. 😂
I've been told many similar stories in places that I have worked. That's history for you. 🧔 👍
Hi may I love watching things like this one it's something like specially with you are doing the vlogs keep up the good work may all the best from Chris
I’d love to be 16 again and start working there. What a massively interesting job.
So interesting, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
yeah more bridge or railroad will be amazing or fishing bridge
For sure!
I love you video's. Please can you make them longer. 15-20 minutes to one subject/area rather than 10-20 seconds in each area.
Were testing the waters at the moment. See what works best. So thanks for the feeedback!
Very interesting Shame the carillon keyboard isn't connected anymore. Okay, so an automated sequence gets played, but surely it could be rigged for manual operation as well. It would be a nice advertising feature.
Interesting!
really interesting stuff, love the way the index is all paper, famtastic, doesnt skip, crash or reboot. works every time! glad some idiot has not updated for updating sake
Great point
Really enjoying these videos!!
Were so glad!
Another happy comment for the algorithms
Muchly appreciated!
Brilliant, thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you, I like seeing into the dark corners and behind old locked doors of an old business. So much history to be found. 🧔 👍
There really is!
Note to self, never get Antony to cook dinner! The potato method, the “herbs and spices” and lasagne technique, criminal! 😅😂
haha!
For once it’s apt that to get notifications I need to strike the bell
haha!
@07:52 When you mix sand, gravel & cement for concrete or sand & cement for mortar you combine them as a dry mixture; then add water. Is there a reason why the red & black sand 'and the secret ingredients' are not blended together before you added the water? Why is the blending done in such a small container? Concrete mixer. You can get small ones that would save your backs & time.
I’ll take that on board! 👀👌🏻
He will get right on that, straight after lunch!
Well that was nostalgic. I used to work as a carpenter in the Other bell foundry, down in London until it closed. I used to enjoy making wheels, pulley boxes, stays, sliders, headstocks and frames. I've still got the old pattern book somewhere with all the dimensions and cutting lists for the different size wheels, handed down from one carpenter to the next. They were good years.
Awwh this is lovely
This is absolutely amazing to see. So very interesting. Keep up the great work i love it. Thank you all so much.
Were so glad you're enjoying the films!
Fabulous video, so interesting to see what goes on!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thats great!
Thanks!
This is much better than watching TV!
Were glad you think so!
Good to see you all. You're all doing very well 😊😊😊
Thank you so much 😀
Just found this series, and love it,
This makes us happy!
Superb. Craftsmanship at its finest, including the video person.😉
Glad you liked it
Interesting May - like a female Fred Dibnah - as he would have said “can I have a do at that”. Great bunch of lads, this could be the next Ckarkson’s Farm
Lets hope so!
Brilliant. Thank you.
You're very welcome!
Are all bells made of bronze? If so, what is the reason for using it - the hardness, the melting point, ease of machining? And what do bells made of steel or brass sound like?
Have you seen our film 'How to Make a Bell'. You should find some of your answers there. Im saying this because right now, I cant think of the answers and I dont want to get it wrong!
@@johntaylorsbellfoundry Will do, thanks!
You should try inviting some other UA-cam channels to have a look. Alec Steele has a whole series about going to various workshops around the country, showing their craft. I bet he'd jump at this one. Also, subscribed and liked. Thank you YT Algorithm. Hopefully it'll pull in a few extra for you :)
We have invited him actually! Just figuring out logistics! Thanks for watching :)
Im from jamaica in the caribbean were there is a 1921 taylors bell at the historic spanish town cathedral.😂😂😂
That's amazing!!
This is brilliant! Subbed here.
Welcome! its great to have you here
Ignore what he says, Bill's a legend!
He is!!
Fantastic.
Thanks!
15:40 "Is it magnetic, like a drill?" No it isn't Mae. Drills tend not to be magnetic.
Not sure what you mean! The screw head is attracted to the drill bit.
She is referring to the magnetic bit holders that one uses with drills and drivers when working with screws.
Well, that was very lovely to watch. I'd be interested to see how the joinery is done, and how old wooden equipment is preserved for the future.
Great! We will keep that in mind
Positive comments for the UA-cam algorithm 😊
We appreciate that!
Thank you, its really good to see things being done as they always have been. One or two changes for ease and safety but essentially the same. Cheers. 🧔 👍
We’re glad you’re enjoying the vlogs!
It's an interesting and strange job...wood, metal, heat and fire.....make a small bell for your boat...🔔🔔🔔
Isn’t it just!
Love the chalk board. Definitely a little extra insight into the day-to-day.
Glad you enjoyed it!
If, when I left school nearly 50 years ago I had of been offered an apprenticeship in a bell foundry; I would have been very happy indeed. @05:45 Esméralda! Hunchback of Notre-dam Charles Laughton released 1939. 1960's, I was an young child, 8 or so the first time I saw that film. It took me quite a few days to get over doing so as I was so upset with how Quasimodo was treated and what happened to Esméralda. Censorship was not even a thing when that film was made in 1939 or when it was aired on a Sunday afternoon on the BBC in the 1960's. Thank you for sharing, telling & showing us Mae. '"I never realized till now how ugly I am, because you're so beautiful": *Quasimodo*
I’m sure you would have enjoyed it!
I love your channel, I would love to see the bell making process in person one day, lots more to it than I thought. Thank you.
There’s tours if you’re interested?
* to the tune of Duran Duran’s “girls on film” “Will’s on film! Will’s on film!” More canteen scenes required 😂
👏
