Reminds me of a webnovel called shadow slave actually. I'd watched beserk long before reading it and this kind of made me realize that so maybe they took some inspiration from it. If anyones into wevnovels theres a lot of....character similarities if you will. Personally never agreed with having to have a dream to be "alive", at least not a grand one. Also don't think having drive and ambition is always a good thing either cause you can look at this or history for examples really. However I do hope everyone finds their dreams someday however small.
