The Cure for Fear of Death - Carl Jung, The Soul and Death (Summary)
Переглядів 5755 місяців тому
Carl Jung explains our fear of death, and how we should view the course of life. Materialism, science, rationality, and skepticism have destroyed our optimism about the afterlife. The solution is to understand that life is a journey with the goal to die well. Religion and spirituality are required to realize this. As an NDEer who's had OBEs and other STEs (spiritually transformative experiences) subsequent to them, I was delighted to see your nearly one hour video re: Robert Monroe. I love Jung, yet the reality of non-local consciousness has become apparent to many more of us since this century-old essay: I daresay Jung would agree these days. Hope you produce videos on Monroe's other two books. (Especially appreciate the fact that you left out his bloody acronyms.) 😊 Thank you, Benjamin

Surely we already have an example of a working thinking conscious machine - and that is *us* (and I guess the higher animals). We are just a biological robot are we not? (unless you subscribe to some mind/body model in which there is a soul or some such thing in which case AI wouldn't work - but I don't subscribe to that & neither does mainstream science). So Penrose & others saying its not possible to create an artificial version of us is a bit silly isn't it? As to the question of an AI becoming super intelligent and then godlike or whatever - I don't see any evidence for that being likely. Sounds too much like a free lunch to me. But a basic generally intelligent artificial intelligence (of some level) should be possible based on the previous argument. However, as to whether we are anywhere near that in our current implementations of LLMs and so on - I don't think we are anywhere near it!

Materialism is a philosophical position, while science is simply a methodology by which we falsify material facts. It has little to do with what philosophical theories are right or wrong. Naturally, physical science is interested in the physical because that is its domain. To infer from the fact that science studies matter to the idea that matter must be all that exists is simply a temperamental decision. It has no basis in reason whatsoever, and will lead you to a very close-minded approach to what could or could not be true in a philosophical sense.

i had a near death experince years ago and discovered this book when i was dead , a saw tall man probably 15 feet tall he was made of light , he came towards me , he said you are half dead sir , then i said what is half dead , he said you will be dead fully if you your body doest make a decision , also told me there was no such thing as heaven or hell and that it was just a play of words made by humanity to keep a balance bewteen humans , i was told that i have been coming back on earth 51 , if i die then it will be 52 i asked him how could i not remember my past live , he said the human mind isnt devolopt enough for us to remember our past life - that is when i really became afraid - i could not move my body when he spoke - then said that there is 4 stages of souls all animal souls have no idea of planets and universes and therfore come back as lowlife animals and stay ignorant humans on the other hand how some of an idea of what life is or what life could be and come back till they evolve to higher stages so that they can come back and reincarnate in other planets much higher than earth extraterrestrials as your kind call it , remembers their past lives and stay educated at birth and come back in other planets divine spirits are in the position of taking care of the reincarnation cyle and so on he said too much

As much as I like Jungian concepts, this topic is beyond his understanding at the time and much too overthought. I have a congenital heart problem and have survived 4 heart attacks and a bout of simultaneous heart failure and kidney failure last year. There is no reason to fear death. Don't confuse a fear of pain with a fear of death. Pain can be overcome, or at least ignored. Pain is caused by resistance to changes that are now occurring. I'll say it again. Pain is caused by resistance to changes that are now occurring. Stop resisting and the pain will diminish. If you are not distracted by the pain, death feels like going home. That's it, that's what it feels like and that's what it is. I've been there, I've done that. Don't worry about it, it's just not worth the trouble.

Once i was able to understand Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations, I knew that the sort of journey that you are on, which is to self explain, and then share that explanation with others, what existence is and means, would be insurmountable. This is why. To communicate what we experience to others, we must rely on the constructive semantics of language The limitation of language walls off being able to know if others understand our subjective experiences, other than them having had similar ones. But even our subjective self perception is saturated in language constructed semantics. Children are less prone to experience filtering through language semantics, and therefore feel life and experience it more present and powerfully. Therefore the strongest conclusion is that the best we can do is to wisely act within, to best understand how our own minds work. Work to silence our minds of words and the baggage of the semantics they bring, until we are able to sense our pure perception observing without interpretation. At best our hardest work will simply bring fleeting seconds of this pure consciousness. But even just that fleeting amount will let us know its the most important and real thing possible. There will then be the knowing that eternity just "is" without necessary properties to exist. There will also then be the knowing that consciousness exists within this eternity and always has. What a self knower of these truths will never come to accept, is that they are this single eternal consciousness. That is the paradox of the non-dual becoming dual. The single reality not being able to comprehend itself, so an illusion is created.
