Following Michael Sandel's views on meritocracy in his book "The Tyranny Of Meritocracy", this presentation claims that, although a meritocratic society enables people to improve their condition and exercise their talent and ingenuity, it does not help to take injustice and inequality away. It also claims that a meritocratic society can't create equal opportunities for everyone. At the end of t...

'Eddie Gaunt.' Your only form of attack against science and evidence are ad hominem insults from the back of the classroom. If you are a pre-pubescent teenager then you are somewhat forgiven. But otherwise sir you and the sheep farmer who insulted Joey Carbstrong with his 'Little Joey' low blow should reach maturity before you have anything to say on social media. Otherwise you're just a really bad example of giving people Free Speech who just abuse it😔

Dear Dr. Jesus Castillo Coronado and panelists, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this insightful conversation on the interplay between religion, humanism, and science. It was fascinating to hear the perspectives of such diverse individuals: a humanist, a rabbi, a Muslim scholar, an ordained Episcopalian Lutheran pastor, and a Catholic priest. The panelists' unique backgrounds and beliefs provided a rich tapestry of ideas and thoughts. The starting point of the discussion, Daniel Dennett's statement from his book "Breaking the Spell," set the stage for a deep exploration of the significance of religion in our lives and its impact on various aspects of society. I agree wholeheartedly with Dennett's sentiment that religion is too important for us to remain ignorant about. It affects not only our social, political, and economic conflicts but also the very meanings we find in our lives. The multidisciplinary approach advocated by Dennett resonated strongly with me. The panelists' willingness to engage in a thoughtful and respectful dialogue, despite their differing perspectives, was truly commendable. I appreciated how the conversation touched upon the profound influence of religion on individuals and communities, as well as its potential relationship with scientific understanding. As a viewer, I found great value in listening to each panelist's unique insights, drawn from their respective traditions and experiences. The diverse perspectives illuminated the complexity and richness of the human experience and deepened my understanding of the interconnections between religion, humanism, and science. I commend Dr. Jesus Castillo Coronado for moderating the discussion with skill and creating a space for open dialogue. It is conversations like these that foster mutual understanding, bridge divides, and promote a more inclusive and compassionate world. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge, ideas, and personal experiences. This video is indeed highly recommended for anyone interested in the present and future of religion and science. I look forward to exploring more conversations like this in the future. Warm regards,

To all those who are watching the videos of RePhil100 we say: Thank you! Thanks so much for giving us your time. Also, thank you so much for leaving comments and feedback. This video is just the beginning of a long discussion and conversation. And indeed, further clarifications and precisions must be presented to avoid misunderstandings and enrich the conversation. For instance, the issue of (anthropomorphic) ideas of God must be treated in detail, as well as the topic of the scope of (materialistic) science and its various methodologies. The discussion of how (scientific) knowledge is produced and validated must also be included, as well as the various theories of truth. Yes, a more comprehensive framework is desirable. For the rest, to fully appreciate and fairly assess the claims of Gerald Schroeder, we must also consider the difference between the Semitic mentality and the Western one, as well as read his work in detail. It is not a secret that part of his claims are reasonable while others are far more controversial even for believers. As for us, if God exists, and if God is non-material and limitless, it is “evident” that science can’t prove nor disprove “His” existence with standard scientific instruments or methodologies. Finally, part of your views and our own concerns have already been addressed in the video “Religious and Scientific Illiteracy”. Best to all!

_This video is just the beginning of a long discussion and conversation._ Great! I'm always up for a conversation, a back-and-forth discussion, so send me an email, if you want to talk. (You can find the contact info at my UA-cam channel.) The comment section here isn't great for that - though I'm willing to talk here, if you prefer - and videos are just preaching to the choir, typically. However, if science can't demonstrate that a god or gods are real, then it can't "dismantle atheism," as your title suggests. And as far as I can tell, "God" is not _at all_ the scientific consensus. Indeed, science doesn't even _study_ "God," even when individual scientists might be religious, themselves. _the issue of (anthropomorphic) ideas of God must be treated in detail_ I disagree with this, too. All I need to know is what _your_ idea of "God" is. When I talk with someone, _their_ idea of "God" is what's important. I don't give a crap about the rest of that. So tell me what _you_ think "God" is, and then tell me why you think that. Do you have one piece of good evidence, specific enough and in enough detail that I can judge it for myself, that your god is real, rather than just imaginary? Just *one?* If not, then why should I take it seriously? Again, if you want to talk, let's talk. I'd enjoy that. I'm no one special - I don't have any particular expertise - but if you had to be an expert in order to believe in a god, there would be a _lot_ fewer theists in the world, huh? (As far as I can tell, most theists just automatically believe whatever they were taught to believe as a child.)

Is science dismantling atheism? No. Indeed, science has nothing to say about gods. Next question? _"Atheism is only for smart people"_ No, that's not true. You can be dumb and still not believe in gods. I mean, I'm sure it _helps_ to be smart, but that's not a requirement in order to be an atheist. The only requirement is that you don't believe in a god or gods. _"In biology, physics, and chemistry classes, the impression was..."_ Let me guess. You've never actually _taken_ any of those classes? Your only knowledge of college science classes comes from religious movies? Personally, I can't imagine why a science teacher in a secular school would even _mention_ gods. Except, of course, in Christian movies. _"The relationship between science and atheism has changed dramatically"_ Nope. You seem to have pulled all of this out of your butt. _"Best-selling authors like Eric Metaxas"_ Heh, heh. Really? _Eric Metaxas?_ Well, that's enough for me. I was struggling to take you seriously _anyway._ But that's more than enough!

As a trained scientist, there is no evidence whatsoever that the universe was created, let alone out of nothing. Scientists can very much explain the origin of life without having to assume the existence and intervention of an intelligent and creative mind - quite the opposite, all scientific data suggests that the development happened based on largely random principles and wasn't "intelligent" by any means. That has nothing to do with the origin of the universe, and to conflate the two questions despite the fact that they are separated by a massive timeframe says a lot about your understanding of science. The issue of theism vs. atheism simply isn't a scientific one, since at least the Abrahamitic God isn't a testable entity or concept, existing outside time and space. That doesn't mean science leads either way, it just means it would be using a screwdriver to drive in a nail to try to answer that question with science.

I made it almost to the half of this video. Till that point yhe point of this video is "did science dismantle atheism?, we asked some theists and they said yes". Science has neither proven or disproven God, it seems to me that you are just quoting the opinions of a couple of believers.
