Research:
(1) Squadrone, R., & Gallozzi, C. (2009).
Biomechanical and physiological comparison of barefoot and two shod conditions in experienced barefoot runners.
This study showed that running barefoot or in minimalist shoes results in better movement patterns, including reduced ground contact time and improved foot positioning, which leads to better running economy and movement efficiency.
(2) Chen, T.-L., Sze, L.-K., Davis, I. S., & Cheung, R. T. H. (2016).
Effects of training in minimalist shoes on the intrinsic and extrinsic foot muscle volume.
The study found that wearing minimalist shoes can increase foot muscle volume, which improves stability and foot positioning during movement, contributing to better posture and movement control.
(3) Warne, J. P., & Gruber, A. H. (2017).
Transitioning to minimal footwear: A systematic review of injury and performance.
This systematic review found that minimal footwear improves intrinsic foot muscle strength, which leads to better foot stability, balance, and power output during activities like running and resistance training.

The Best Summer Barefoot Hiking Shoe | VivoBarefoot Magna Lite vs. Primus Trail
I grew up with skateboard shoes and flat bottomed Adidas with wide toes. When I bought a good pair of barefoot shoes, it was not very different from the rest of my shoes. I have always hated trainers with pointed tips that grip the foot. I don't even like arch support. My feet are quite strong and I'm almost 60.
This was an interesting video. I work for minimum wage so i spend about $30 to $40 Australian once a year on shoes. They are cheap quality and not good for my feet but I haven't seen closed toe barefoot shoots for the same price point. Maybe I'm just not aware of them. Maybe someone should do a video on barefoot shoes for poor folk.
The first guy around 2:48 is speaking garbage... I don't look at a Nike shoe over the price of $60 and go "of course it's expensive, it's a Nike shoe". I have only worn two comfortable Nike shoes in my life, both wide toebox, and I hate all their shoes. I have never bought a shoe above $60.
I go barefoot anywhere and everywhere i can. I've always been barefoot while running through the woods as a kid and the only time i wear shoes is at work. I highly recommend everyone stop wearing shoes and start working on building up the callouses on your feet. You will notice a myriad of differences. You will feel better. You just have to make a commitment and do it. You'll thank yourself later. Best wishes
Hello my friend I have used vibram for the past 15 years Best thing ever No regret Have fun
You are a petrol head. If you really loved the shoes you would show an unbiased opinion which shows they’re indefinitely better for people who need them. Which makes them priceless. Actor paid
After 60 years of heel lifted, tight toe box shoes, I could barely walk. Ingrown toenails, Severe knee pain, low back pain, bunions, constant arch pain, Acchiles tendon shrunken and contracted. 5 years in barefoot, Zero Lift, Wide toe Box shoes have given me my life back. My stride and posture changed, I stuck with it. I healed 80 to 90% from all these foot problems. I still have some damage from Bad shoes, but it wasn't too late for most of the problrms to dissappear. Go slow, but persistent. It took 2 years for issues to diminish for me. Some I must own forever. But, I'll never wear shoes that harm me ever again.
They’re workout shoes. Srs.
0:32 source of data?
Like the by the sound of many others, I too have walked barefoot, literally, as much as possible and is safe to do so. I would not go barefooted on the streets etc. because of the glass and other dangerous things. But in my own home and garden certainly and outside my safe boundaries I wear barefoot shoes or flip flops to allow my feet as much as freedom as possible. Never had any major issues with my feet or skin on them other than in my younger years when I went barefooted everywhere... I did have lot of cuts from broken glass or stabbed my toes onto tarmac when running clumsily. But it has been entirely a life long thing for me, not always conscious decision, more of what came naturally and I have chosen to carry on, as wearing constrictive shoes does cause so much pain and discomfort. I'm sure swapping from 'usual' shoes to more feet freedom has its issues too and change from it needs to be done over looooong period of time to let feet adjust back into their natural state, if it is still possible.
Fixed my flat arches and bunions for starters!
I have to find mine
It’s easier to not stare at the ground when wearing barefoot. Your feet are your eyes when there’s very little between your feet and the ground. With keeping my head up that helped with my neck upper back my hips and neck.
That last tip about shortening your stride length was really useful. Cheers for the video.
They need to make a pair that is grounding aswell !
Have been wearing my five fingers since 2008 summer winter rain and shine. These and my Red Wing Logger boots are my most comfortable shoes
I tried some barefoot shoes but didn't like them. I also sleep in a bed rather than on the ground, as most barefoot shoe wearers do.
But wait, you removed the insole of the Vans and call it "making barefoot shoes"?? That is NOT how you name your UA-cam videos in 2024! That will be a thumbs down from me, even though I'm very passionate about barefoot shoes and foot strength.
been wearing only barefoot shoes for the last year. Can bet that it's not a good option for ppl with flat feet.
Just buy some barefoot shoes it's not worth the hassle
Skip the barefoot shoes and just go barefoot!
Personally, I think this shoe falls way short of its intended use. Firstly, the sock around the ankle is baggy and lets in debris. Secondly, they are difficult to put on. Thirdly, your foot slides around inside when wet. But the Michelin sole is simply brilliant. The boot style aqua run offering from Vivo that preceded this had a much more snug sock / collar, and kept out debris. Same sole.
Just wondering how often this guy used to roll his ankles 😂
In my old trad boots? A LOT 😂
Just a heads up, they’re on sale right now. For £119. Got a pair of the all weather he mentioned, and they’re great. Wanted these and now’s the best time!
I have Altra hiking shoes and I LOVE them except they are not waterproof...and had soggy feet during my entire Iceland vacay. I need cushion because I have hypermobile joints, and subsequently chronic pain. I also walk loads on pavement. I love the way vivo's feel on natural ground, but I need more cushion for pavement and long hikes. Would you recommend these for me? Does the cushion compare to Altra's? Or should I just go with Vivo's and add in a shock-absorbing insole? Thanks!
I should add that I started wearing barefoot shoes 10 years ago... and only the last few years I've realized how my unique body needs more support...
I started wearing barefoot shoes a year ago; I’d developed Footdrop & was really struggling to walk unless I was barefoot. A year on I don’t wear any other shoes.
You’re in a cult people
I'm looking for a boot that's good in -25°F/-32°C. Do you think these would be comfortable in that range?
No, you should look into the VivoBarefoot Tundra ESC if you’re in that temp range!
thanks for this! looks like bali? 🙂
It is!!
I can’t escape the mosquitoes always come for me
Me too, constantly getting eaten!
Wet feet and climbing through jungle = Bad day
No leaches though so I’m saying this was a good day 😂
Why are barefoot shoes even a thing ? To have shoes that actually fit the foot without restriction ? I love mine , they are the only shoes I wear apart from my work boots .
Are those trail fg or trail fg knit?
Trail FG, new to my arsenal. Really enjoying them!
wait is the sole a rubber sole??? u can’t have rubber sole and expect it to get through to the insert grounding 🙄🤦🏼♀️
Got a pair of zero drop natural last Lem's. After a week at work ( concrete floors) my feet and toes feel fantastic.... my knees hurt so bad I had to go back to my old shoes. Not sure what to do now.
Absolutely love this message! So I work outside in rocky desert terrain (with animals). I wear Vivobarefoot boots usually. But always searching for the best shoe to deal with this terrain & temps. Any suggestions? Thank you as always for your great information and content! 🌱🍂🐾
Thank you! I don't think there is a 'perfect' barefoot desert boot YET but... I have heard rumours that Vivo is going to be launching a desert boot into their ESC range at some point early next year so I would hold onto your pennies for that! Appreciate the support ❤️
@TheBarefootStrengthProject oh wow, good to know! Thank you so much for the info ☺️
@@pittifulbeauty Try Jim Green African ranger boots.
@@lukemothug thanks, I'll definitely check them out!
I got my first barefoot shoes a month ago and my Achilles tendon is killing me. I try to make sure I don't over stride but it still hurts.
Great Video! BTW. Shoes with thick heel cushions are more likely to cause roll ankles .
Been wearing barefoot shoes for over 10 years. In the beginning it was heavenly and such a revelation! I wish I could still feel that wonderful feeling but now I’m so used to it, it feels normal. I hike on dirt trails in the mountainous terrain we live in. Xero is the brand I have many pairs and styles of.
First video ref is killing me 😂
This is a very good video, but please note; the process of going barefoot can take even longer the older you are. If you already have foot or other physical limitations- go slow and steady to make the greatest gains over time.🫶🏼happy walking!

Great video! I became a barefoot shoe zealot about a year ago. I read up on a bit of this, lift weights, play pickle ball on cement , hike….biggest and very painful issue was heal pain-crazy bottom of heal kind. I am aware that most adults have plantar fasciitis in some form and became obsessed with stretching my Achilles/calf. Also a zealot of the knees over toes guy Ben Patrick and use his lower leg exercises 2-3 times a week. Then-the heel pain would be so bad I sent to a podiatrist who wrapped/taped my feet and gave me sole-stiffening inserts and heel cups. Said it was the heels bursas…Seriously felt great in a day…I think I was beating by heals onto hard surfaces far too quickly….going to try and re-transition to my barefoot shoes ( Xero barefoot, Vibae, Vivo bearfoot).. Have you had many questions about the heal bursitis?
😂😂😂😂 big pharma? 😂😂😂😂 the bs companies will say to get you to buy their 💩
The winter in Montana keeps me from going barefoot.
Truth🎯
I’m switching from wearing low cut converse, wearing it for yeeeears, would it be an easy transition?
I ended up donating my barefoot shoes. Loved them. Took me no real time to adjust as I never wore shoes/slippers at home anyway. Then I broke my foot simply walking and learned I don’t just have high arches, I have extremely high arches - some of the highest my doctors has seen. Now I have to have pretty solid shoes and slippers with arch support or I risk more stress fractures. I miss at least walking barefoot at home but since the break, even a few steps to the bathroom without arch support and I’m in pain.
Great advice man 👍🏽
Glad it was helpful!
