Using my old gear just for fun.
Sometimes I use my old D200 and my old 400mm manual focus lens just for the joy of using it. The D200 really reminds me of a great film camera like the F4.

That's why I kept my Pentax *istDL & K100D 6 megapixel cameras from 2005 & 2006 both I bought new and they both work as good as the day they were bought. Sure they have there limitations with ISO range. I Limit ISO to 800 as anything above has to much noise . And they tend to under espouse but with modern photo editing software the pictures can look just as good as my newer cameras do

    • @Joel-your-photo-troll
      @Joel-your-photo-troll 26 днів тому

To be truthful, I don't really know. I almost never use live view, I always look through the viewfinder. I believe that you can find the LV button on the back, there is a switch where you can slide back and forth from video to photo. Either way, the live view should stay on until you push the LV button again, or shut off the power.

But digital D only affects jpgs, it doesnt do anything to the RAW files, the files you actually want, cameras have a lot more dynamic range in the shadows than the highlights, so i'd say to expose for the bright background at base iso and boost the darker parts of the images later Opposite is true for film, that stuff has a lot more dynamic range in the highlights In general i'm really not sure why you're saving your images in both jpg and 1,3x crop, you're already on an APS-C sneosr and you can do all of that in photoshop afterwards

Love my fuji xt10 still one of my all time favorites. Love your channel, your more realistic and I can relate to your channel. There's so much camera drama with the big channels keep up the great content. 👍

I have tried more serious models. But these 7000 series are ok. One little thing. Over time, the screen pixels burn out on the display. The sensor is ok. It is better to put UV filters in the sun. Otherwise, burnout sensor pixels without a uv filter in the sun. On a trip or for work. Nikon sensors burn out like other SLR sensors. When buying old models, Nikon tested the variant against black pages. You can quickly see the situation of the pixels of the sensors.

Just keep in mind that in rafting photography it is not uncommon to shoot one thousand photos per day every day for eighty days. So, about 80,000 per season. The shutter usually starts acting up in the fifth season, around 400,000 actuations. I have never encountered the pixel burnout that you mention, probably because I replace the camera every fifth year or so.

I've owned one for years as well, and agree that like many DSLRs now, it is a great, affordable alternative to more contemporary and far more expensive mirrorless Nikons. But I do disagree about the rear screen. Its low resolution made me worry for a long time that my images were poorly focused, or it was a defect ... until I read that it is indeed a low-res screen. Now that I know, I am at peace with it.

I am surprised you care about the info button. Theres very little that shows up on the main display, which is not also shown on the top LCD. Most of the features you are talking about really things that should draw somebody to this particular camera. I should think you would be over having anybody seen selections by the time you're ready to graduate from a D3x00. Crop mode is usually more or less useless, since everything that it will do for you can be done in post-processing anyway. The 7100's real selling points are the two card slots (SD cards are after all notoriously unreliable), the in-body focus motor (you won't find that on a lower end model) that enables you to use very high quality older AF and AF-D Nikkor lenses that are surprisingly inexpensive used, the fact that there is a dedicated top LCD (don't need to waste the battery life or your eyes at night using the main LCD to see the basics), and the dust and weather resistance. I bought mine in 2013 when it had just come out. It's one of my favorite bodies. Its also somewhat more critical of lenses even than my D850, since the pixel pitch on the APS-C size sensor is so high.

I use this camera for a rafting company, so the pictures are not edited. Out of the camera is it. Personally, I usually use the top screen or the viewfinder to get my information , but when I need to show someone else what is going on, I like to use the big screen for that.

A lot of the drive behind G.A.S. is what i like to call "Peacockery". The camera is just a tool. It doesn't matter what it costs, what name is on it or, when it was made. It needs to stay out of the way and let You express Your vision. Sometimes Harbor freight can be as useful as snap-on. If you really need a different feature then buy that tool, otherwise, save your money. Don't fall into the "My dog's bigger than your dog" trap. If You are working as a pro then what ever provides the best return on your investment on every job is critical. If you're a hobby shooter just shoot what is most comfortable for you and is best suited to your needs. Latest is not always greatest. I still shoot some ccd cameras on occasion for reasons of my own. Restrictions can sometimes boost creativity. I divide my cameras up into bags based on age, etc. and sometimes I just tell my wife to grab me a bag. Whatever is in that bag is what i shoot that day - LOL. I've been doing this since i was 7 and i'm 75 now so i'm sure my approach isn't for everyone; but, i have fun with it. That's the bottom line for a hobby - just have fun! If it ain't fun, get a different hobby.

Some time ago I had a Nikon D5600 (which I LOVE) and now I have a Sony A6000 and a friend of mine asked me why I changed if I liked the Nikon so much? The answer is misinformation, and everyone says that DSLRs are old and that it is better to go to mirror them as soon as possible, although it is not true. The same friend of mine told me if I wanted to change his nikon D7100 with a tamron 17-50mm VC lens and with a side grip, in terms of price (Argentina) it is more expensive than the sony, and since I have a 70-300mm lens from when I had the D5600 that I couldn't sell, I don't know what to do, currently the Sony A6000 in Argentina is around 450-500 dollars, and with luck the 7100 sells for 1000, but between 750 and 800 is a quick sale, and the lens is expensive also, and I don't have other Sony lenses (Expensive) In short, you don't have to think too much about cameras, I think that if it has between 20 and 24 megapixels it's already an excellent camera, it doesn't matter if it's from more than 10 years ago or more current like the D5600

    • @Joel-your-photo-troll

There are so many different kinds of shooters out there. Some people set everything up in advance, and some people whip the camera out and start shooting. I’m in some sort of dilemma. Would you advise to go for a camera with high specs and miss out on the wifi/Bluetooth feature (Nikon D7100) or go for lower specs but get the wifi/Bluetooth features (Nikon D5300) ? I intend to use the camera for wedding photography and state functions. A friend was asking me not to pick the D7100 because it doesn’t have the wifi feature however, I can’t stand missing out on all the good features the camera offers in exchange for wifi .

If Wi Fi is that important to you, it seems that you need the 5300. I'd say the D7100 is more for action, sports, wildlife and news. You don't really need it for weddings and such.

I just bought this camera €250 used, without a lens. I already have the D3100 with 3 lenses, so it's not a problem. I don't care if it's 10 years old, it's a great camera for a bargain price.

Genuinely curious why don’t that have the bridge at a point so debris and stuff like this don’t get wedged against it as easy?

I hate to ask, but what are your settings on that? I might be starting to shoot for a rafting company. Im sure I should have no problem. Im use to shooting action shots and the brighter the day, the better I am.

Full manual, ISO auto turned off. Picture control set to Vivid. 1/1/800th of a second, f/8 at ISO 800. Speed up or slow down the shutter speed to deal with any changes in lighting.

Try shooting in raw and lower your shutter speed just a bit

Hi, yeah, the company wants me to shoot small JPEG, we take about 1500 pictures a day that need to be uploaded to the internet via a sketchy mountain connection. Large files would just overwhelm the system. I do keep my shutter speed a little higher than necessary in case a cloud rolls in and I need to slow it down four or five stops, then I still have about 1/500th at the low end.

$65?? Wow, that's crazy! Now if only I could find a fixed 400mm for that price. Nowadays it seems I use my iPhone more than my Nikon. (Had a D60 but the shutter failed, and now have a well-traveled D5200.) Started out with a Kodak Instamatic. Now those were the days... :)

I just happened to pick up a 400mm f/5.6 manual focus lens for a little more than $600.
