MILWUAKEEE HARDLINE KNIFE FEILD REPORT (part 2)
got an immature bull moose october 23rd, buddy and I shared it. The MILWUAKEEE HARDLINE KNIFE is one functional field knife. I recommend this one for large game. skinning. quartering. backstrap and tenderloin. leg joint, no problem.

    I think they finally improved their steel a little. I have a softer Milwaukee fixed blade in my tool pack, it is seven years old. I use it to score mud flaps, scrape and remove wire insulation. Easy to dull and easy to sharpen. Before that I had a Milwaukee folder with the same steel. That said it served me well as it locked closed and I managed to send thing through a pump a couple of time with it coming back fully intact. Aus 8 is close 440 steel. The old ones seemed like a soft tempered 420. For D2 knives, I carry a diamond sharpener in a shoulder pocket in my fleece military winter jacket.

      Thank You for the tips. I have used the leatherman diamond grit sharpener on several knives, and it seems to work pretty good. I am making one of those drum-roller type sharpeners with magnets in the 20 degree angle cut. They seem to work very good also, using emery paper.

    • @arc4550
      @arc4550 Рік тому

      MY CHANNEL = MY choice. The TIAWAN blade is, in MY OPINION, having compared them on MOOSE ELK AND MULE DEER, the S.O.G. is SUPERIOR STEEL for edge retention. NO CONTEST. this apple to apple thing you refer to is bullshit. My comparison is FEILD TESTED on Wild game animals by ME. skinning, gutting, quartering and butchering. if you can not handle the truth, this is, a YOU problem.

    • @arc4550
      @arc4550 Рік тому

      I have to agree with you, with my own hands-on testing, on deer/moose/elk, skinning, gutting, quartering and butchering. I used that S.O.G. 2.0 bowie on 3 mule deer bucks and one bull moose, before an effortless re-touch to the blade. the PUMA was, unfortunately, in need of re-sharpening only 1/2 way through ONE moose.

  • @mca1960
    @mca1960 Рік тому

    I've one too, amazing well made PUMA knive. But, two different types of knives. PUMA = for hunting; SOG = for fighting. So they are not directly comparable. BTW: the PUMA has 440C steel, the SOG AUS 8 steel. OK ? The PUMA you can sharpen very well to a high sharpness. You have to do it in the right way, buddy. The 440C steel is harder, but holds the edge for a longer time, compared to the AUS8. Therefore AUS8 is a bit easier to sharpen, but it lose the edge easier. The 440C ist a bit harder to sharpen, but holds the edge for a longer time. Also the withstand of corrosion is better for the 440C steel.

    • @arc4550
      @arc4550 Рік тому

      ok, good luck with that. ANY knife can be a FIGHTING KNIFE in an extreme situation. if you only had a swiss army folder and a grizzly is incoming, you would use it. These knives are comparable in cost, blade length, and build quality. the difference is, Having actually HUNTED in NORTHERN BC moose, ELK, Bear, and DEER, skinning, gutting, quartering, The SOG wins, NO CONTEST. obviously you are a PUMA fanboy who does not actually use them in the field. The PUMA is one classy steak knife when you are in camp, though.

    Hole in the puma is for the retention loop, not lanyard. I'm not sure that Bowie design of the puma is a very good comparison, puma do a Bowie with a long false edge, and a deeper hollow ground which I think is more comparable to the SOG, that bone handles going to last a lifetime maybe not so the stack leather, also I think the SOG is rather thick, seems crazy on a knife of that length to have a quarter inch back, there's no purpose just extra weight, it's not like it's a chopper or anything. That said must be incredibly strong I like them both.
