Welcome To Calico Classics!
Come see what’s going on here and hangout.

WAKING UP THE Y BLOCK PT.1 #thunderbird
Here’s part one of waking up the motor. Here we hangout and investigate. Get some oil down the cylinders, and review the 1.54 rockers. Note video says 1.53 as a typo. 👍

Love your Channel! ❤ Always Interesting Cars!
Thanks man, yes there are many interesting cars rolling through at calico classics 👍👍

Thanks for watching Pat!
Those rocker arm assemblies looked to be very clean and "wet" enough to believe that things are oiling good up top. You are wise to test that out. Ford's biggest mistake was that double 90 degree jog for the oil feed where the heads meet the block's deck surface. It was very easy back in the day for sludge to settle in there and things to get blocked up. Not only did it cause problems with sludge, my belief is that it decreased oil pressure up top a bit as well.
Very good Reverend. What are your thoughts on the crimp of the bypass rocker tube to restrict flow out to raise pressure on the rockers?
@@CalicoClassics for a performance build I certainly recommend “pressurizing” the shafts. I have a video on my channel that shows how to get that done; really easy to do.
@@HotRodReverend yes I’m very familiar. Just getting your thoughts. That’s cool I will definitely have to check out your video.
Lots of good analyzing here - seems like you have to do quite a bit of investigation. At least the distributor is good with both vacuum and mechanical advance so you're good to match with that carb. There are companies like CRT and TSP that make those distributors that include a mechanical tach drive - don't know if your customer would be interested in that or not.
Great to know I’m going to look them up 👍👍
bringin em back to life!!! a lot of good info to pass down.
Thanks man, I appreciate it.⭐️

Thanks man, I appreciate you commenting and like video as it helps with algerithm so much
@@CalicoClassics YESSSIR!!!
Awesome! 🔥
Thanks for checking in man 👍
Ah yes the gas tank you don't need a siphon hose to steal gas from, yeah I wonder why we don't have those anymore. ...
Wow I Never thought about that way… you may be right
My uncle had a 56 and a 57 beautiful little cars
NICE! I love the 57👍👍
Excellent!!! Crowded Right Up!!! Love Big Fat Fenders!!! Is That A Vintage Dozer On The Other Wall??? Keep Rocking It Out Brother!!!
You bet man👍👍 there’s two International TD5’s that were made in Canada from 59’ to 64’ then became the 500 series, the forklift is a 1963 Allis Chalmers. Right on Pat 🚀
Sweet
Yes man , finally getting some progress 👍👍
People would steal your gas easy
Very good point sir, thanks for checking it out 👍👍
Awesome job!!!!
Thanks Rob. I appreciate your approval 💯
I'm just glad there's not people trying to call it a 401 because they don't know the 425 exists
Right 👍 there’s a 401 in the 63 Buick we did a video on channel. Thanks for checking it out 👍
To much of a hazard and to easy to steal fuel from cars
Sounds about right, thanks for checking it out 👍👍
Looks like a Ford 292 cu. in.
I haven’t measured the stroke yet. But that or a 312👍👍
One rocker is a new style adjustable compared to all the rest are 1956 stock
@@CalicoClassics interesting, yes, they did have mechanical lifters... also, the valve train was slightly oil starved so a kit with tubes and fittings was available to supply extra oil externally through one of the valve cover mounting bolts.
@@mikedauphinais3713 in this series for the motor waking up there’s a couple videos, but I go into detail, explaining exactly what you say. Right on man.👍👍 videos are coming up in a week or so
Did you guys ever push the Continental kit back in its locked position?
Yes the continental kit went in and latches . It is the trunk that the keys won’t work in and open.
Great car. One of my favorites of all time.
Cool, good to hear. Lots more coming up on the revival 👍👍
Why couldn't they just keep gas tank drain plugs? Because dying in an intense fireball ain't nice. That's why.
Thanks for watching and sharing your input, a fireball would not be very nice😂
Because Holleys were 'difficult'.....Still miss the '55 I had to sell back in '73....
I thinks you got it there. Yes the carters are definitely easier.
312 or 352 y block and the round window in the top was the supercharged model but I’m not a ford guy nice car though
Thanks for watching 👍👍
Curious to know why it has a Carter carb on the intake. The linkage on the intake looks to be passenger car variety - hard to see it all in the video. You have your work cut out for you but I’m sure you’ve got it no sweat.
Yes indeed Reverend, I am getting into it now, and there is definitely a few interesting things to go over regarding the 1406.
Did you use mummert alternator bracket before?
@@CalicoClassics I used a setup from AutoElectric before and a Vintage Air setup now.
@@HotRodReverend cool I will look into it thanks.
Looking forward to this one!!!
Awesome thanks Reverend👍
Back in the 1950s, some gas stations tanks leaked. Water would find itself getting into your gas tank, especially if you purchase gas just before delivery . If you suspect water in your fuel tank you would drain it till you got straight gas. Chances of that happening now with all the double tanks and vapor recovery systems are nill
Great info Jim! Thanks for checking it out 👍 one thing I would note is that up here in Canada there is basically a three tier system for the top grade gas, from there stations can work off of spec to how much water is actually allowed. I have witnessed some savages out quick catch up here, using a garden hose in the past to make more money. I’m not talking about a ton of water here, but it is enough to bring up the level.
Прекрасно. 😊😊😊❤❤❤
Thanks for checking in 👍
Does it stink like the 57 Chevy’s Old Gas? 😮
Smells a bit better but tastes about the same 🙃
Headliners... Smart Man. Nice, Y-Block.
Thanks for checking it out👍 the investigation continues, the cylinders are getting soaked down as we speak. Video is coming up
55-65 tbird and 60-65 lincoln continentnal. the only fords i ever loved...
Cool , yes something about the Lincoln I just don’t really get into, the unibody style is kind of meh🤨 all the way up through the 60s
@@CalicoClassics i only like the interior and suicide doors.
@@pawpatina I kind of see 58 as the year it ended. That’s when fomoco was split up to create MEL and Lincoln was always floater on its own but joined.
Original 312 with HOLLEY 4 barrel.
I’m just investigating now, the Holley now has a Carter 600cfm in place. Video on the way👍
