    Some kids definitely should get held back. I was 80 pounds as a freshman and 100 pounds as a sophomore. My dad insisted to hold me back but mom said no. Placed in Ohio when I was finally of weight junior year and qualified again wrestling up a weight as a senior. Dad regretted not holding me back because it definitely would’ve changed things if I had been. Especially maturity reasons I should’ve been held back.

    You might need to take a foreign language to go to a certain college. But only some high schools require a foreign language.

    If everyone did this no one would benefit. If you believed in what you said in the video, you would have left the video up. It is not for competitive people, it is for people looking for an advantage by cheating the system. Make your kids better, don't game the system.

    Why do you do a collar tie with your non-dominant hand? I thought you tie with your dominant hand

    • @GabrielCarvalho-yf1lh

      To protect the leading leg, the dominant hand keep close so they can't get a single.

    The biggest issue with the advice isn't that it's inappropriate to give, but that it's just backwards backwards. Competitive people seek out the best competition. Which 20 year old is most likely going to be the better wrestler the one that started school late then got held back in 8th grade and turns 20 in May of his senior year of high school or the one that started school on time so when he turns 20 in May it's after having spent two years in a college room? The only reason the advice seems to work in a majority of the cases is that 1) a marjority of wrestlers don't do it and 2) the goalposts are moved at the same time. If the goalposts remained static so the goal isn't to be the best wrestler by the end of high school (which could be delayed indefinitely - some people never graduate) to be the best wrestler that you can in 4 years time then the hold back would in a vast majority of cases hold the wrestler back.

    It seems there's a widespread consensus across all levels - from the comments and media coverage to the opinions of elite wrestlers - that your coach's approach was misguided. Perhaps it would be best to view this as a learning experience and move forward.

    You guys also discussing age of consent and life after wrestling? Just wondering because Johny being 18 as a junior and 19 as a senior might want to leave all the other children who attend his school alone. Also if they go to college and red shirt they're graduating at 24/25 for perspective there are lawyers finishing law school at that age. There's more to life than wrestling and I feel this video is shortsighted and only looking at the immediate benefits... Please keep in mind this guy is biased and wants a strong program. If anything maybe have a talk about developing interests and career aspirations outside of wrestling as that could be lifelong. You don't want your kids to be lost once wrestling is over. - Signed by a 2x Fargo all American, D1 national qualifier, and lawyer...

    Hold backs aside, what's with the Christian memes in this video? You guys come off like a bunch of immature dirtbags. I'd pull my kids out of that club asap. You're coaches, mentors, grown men... act accordingly. Edit: Ben Askren's response was perfect: ua-cam.com/video/adTi9Om9zco/v-deo.html

    Okay so why is he yelling his point to the kids in the middle of practice? Isn't this a conversation to be had with the parents to educate them? Still a big L for you guys. If you don't want people commenting or making videos about your content, don't post stupid shit to the internet!

    And not a citation or reference to research to be had... But seriously, the fact that you all don't view telling a kid whose parents chose not to hold him back that he messed up and should have listened as wrong just goes to show how blind you are are to coaching tactics that support children holistically. Not to mention the whole calling out a kid for being held back academically thing. Gross, and I think you will find that over time you'll have done more harm than good. But hey, maybe you'll get a view banners.

    You want the best competitive edge in sports hold back. I agree with you 100%...but please stop with the long term BS. You didnt mention 1 thing about actual life besides sports . Yes my son trains 5 to 6 days a weeks and loves this sport and what this sport has tought him is way more than getting held back to be a 15 year old 8th grader beating a 12 year old 7th grader. And not 1 of my comments was rude or disrespectful but you or your couterpart as ypu call him subject to name calling to one of my comments and we will have a discussion in person at some point. All im saying is if your grades and your mental abilities allow then move on in grades . Any other reason is completely crazy in my opinion. I mean how good does it feel to be the oldest middle school kid stand over way younger kids on that podium.. come on man just say what you mean and be done. If you want the best sports edge hold them back its that simple. Good job getting views through

    Nothing wrong with reprimanding a kid for talking but there’s definitely a way to do it and this isn’t it. Bashing on child’s performance in front of a group of kids is low class, especially when you won only 1 state title at 113lbs as a senior in high school.

    So you think it’s important to call kids out in the room for not doing it? The stance is how you are having the conversation? Articulating way while posting memes in your posts like you are making a point by doing it? Why delete the post and repost?

    @AllenCarterNews 3 місяці тому

    When you're explaining, you're losing. Free PR advice: Stop trying to prove that you're right (even if you may be). Regardless of what you were trying to get across, that first video was a bad look. Delete it. Offer a genuine apology for the aspects that came across poorly. Then get back to providing the great content you guys usually have for the wrestling community.
