That yacht on display is the “Jalur Gemilang”. It was helmed by Azhar Mansor who took it on a solo circumnavigation around the globe in 190 days. He wouldve been faster but the main sail broke and he had to stop tp repair it. Its a pretty neat piece of Malaysian history .Thought youd like to know.

I did this trek/climb in 2016. Fond memories.

Yes, very much so, the ascent is steep, and if like me you have a bad knee, the additional weight distribution with the stick is good and also allows for more stability. Think of a table with two legs or a table with three. In hindsight, I was not fit enough at the time, and more than anything else I would recommend get fit before you do Kinabalu, it will make your climb much more enjoyable. Sod bear grills.... as an Australian of Irish heritage (we don't call ourselves Irish or any of the plastic paddy bullshit) finally there is a survival expert with practices I can relate to. I once survived a heatwave by staying put in my local pub for 9 hours.... an ordeal I know, but I got through it and lived to tell the tale... and after a couple of days I was even allowed back in the house!
