I like the horror approach of mods like From the Fog and to be honest I'd probably like some dweller mods if they didn't feel like reskins with slightly different features and functionality. When it comes to mods on later updates my top 3 overall are Box of Horrors, From the Fog, and Gigeresque. Each of them for their own reasons.

Can you guys find passive mobs? I haven't seen any at all and im worried.

I’ll tell you what will make Minecraft scary: Fake players Imagine walking through the forest and seeing a house that YOU didn’t build. It wasn’t there yesterday. Imagine hearing block placing sound effects but nobody placing blocks. Imagine mining and torches disappearing suddenly.

One fantastic (IMO) horror/fantasy mod is The Slumbering Omen. It adds more than one entity and focuses more on progression and implementing an actual storyline and unique horror elements. It’s a well-made thoughtful mod that doesn’t try to just scare you with slop over and over. Although it’s got it’s own flaws too, and is a little buggy, it is a really, really good horror-focused mod.

Minecraft horror is hard because Ot’s already been done…and Ot’s a hyper saturated game. For me I’m actually more afraid when a scary mod is happening to someone I’m watching. Which is why I fuck ARG or unification using Minecraft at its core so scary. It’s a non scary game, that is having an inexplicable effect on your computer or the person telling the story themselves. If you want to know what I’m talking about some of the creators of the [ REDACTED ] Smp (yes spelled like that is a good example. Or Roothouse.

You know the thing about these Minecraft horror mods are that they’re mostly just oooohhh spooky noise and then you just get chased. I think the mods should try to add to the true horror factor, such as add suspense and don’t just make it a scream or stick snap make it real Minecraft noises like grass footstep sounds or wood and stone or whatever your stepping on, plus make it unpredictable and not allow the player to expect something because whenever you hear a “trigger” noise you know what to except but instead how about you do the same thing and remove the predictable part of it and have player sit there thinking something going to come attack and yet it never comes. So yeah 😅

When I think about bad Minecraft horror I just think about how badly butchered the goatman is. As a Kentucky native that thing in the goatman mod acts more like some cracked out skin walker. While urban legend has a few different ideas of what it does and how it kills you, there are three important elements to it. 1. It lives by railroads, specifically rail bridges, 2. It carries an axe and ambushes its victims, 3. It has the ability of mimicry and will sometimes use voices, mostly its known to mimic sheep since people assume its harmless before it runs out and strikes. The fear of the goatman legend isn't its stupid eerie voice and how it taunts you. Its in its methodical stalking, its need to wait until you lower your guard. Then it either butchers you with an axe or frightens you so bad you run in front of a train or fall to your death from the bridge.

what we need is psx shaders but with actual shaders so it has fancy lighting but psx graphics

I feel like minecraft just isn't a good game for creature horror. Monsters are never scary, you can always get a good look at them, and most mod makers just don't know what they're doing.
