The only reason they would celebrate VE Day in Germany is because they want to make it clear that they see what they once were as wrong. Overall the difference between the show and reality is that in the show the germans convinced the Americans to love what happened to them and in reality we convinced the Germans to hate what they were, making them celebrate out of self spite if they celebrate at all.
