Installing a De Graaf Performance Exhaust in the Toyota Fortuner 2.8 GD6
In this video, I share why I decided to upgrade my Toyota Fortuner's exhaust system with a De Graaf performance setup after six years and 90,000 km. With a few mods already in place, I was looking to regain some of the power lost due to extra weight and improve airflow - all without going overboard on sound. The De Graaf system was the perfect choice, keeping things durable and balanced for my overlanding adventures. Watch along as I explain the installation process, the impact on performance, and how this setup has improved the overall driving experience.

Exploring the WILD COAST and RHODES - An Eastern Cape EPIC Adventure
I hear you on the 3rd row seats.. I just removed mine.. Take s 12 minutes. Will place it back the day I need it. but the space gain is incredible. I considered the 7 seater option and for us the 3rd row seats out makes more sense 99% of the time to have that additional space and less weight in the vehicle. Those seats are heavy... Lekker man Henk sorry to hear about the clutch, but luckily that is in the past now and I can see you enjoy your Fortuner a lot, I myself will not be doing too harsh offroading, we just want to go places where the 4x2 just just can not manage or just just manage where the 4x4 is going to laugh..
@@FORTUNER_ADVENTURES my other problem is where to store them if I take them out…
@4WheelingSA we placed them in those vacuum plastic bags and store it is the roof of garage...
06:30 Agree with that power door beeping...... Hate it
@@FORTUNER_ADVENTURES you can somehow disconnect it, but then you need to remove the plastic of the door to get to it.
@@4WheelingSA I will check..
I have a 1KD Hilux, i have 3 inch exhaust, a remap of around 420NM (At wheels), a custom airbox, i struggle to touch even 450°C EGTs (post turbo), Brilliant modifications. The custom airbox alone lowered 50°C on average
@@ishaqthkr cool
Does your steering wheel crack at the top as well? I have checked this at dealerships and even there I saw 2nd hand units with 40,000km and 2years age and they had cracks as well.. Was replaced under warranty but even that steering wheel cracked
@@FORTUNER_ADVENTURES No, my steering wheel is still fine after almost 7 years. But it does not stand in the sun during the day often.
@@4WheelingSA thanks
Would gou suggest doing an exhaust before a remap? Would be interesting to see the actual gains etc
@@FORTUNER_ADVENTURES Definitely do the exhaust before the remap. It takes heat (lower egt) away from the engine. Think around 10 kW and 20-30 NM. But I have not measured it. For me it is more about how it feels.
If you're remapping then you better change exhaust to save cost
@@ishaqthkr I have a 2017 Fortuner as well which runs well on its standard exhaust after remap over 60,000km ago... My 2x new 2024 Fortuners I am still deciding and researching.
@@FORTUNER_ADVENTURES new ones are already very capable compared to the stock 2017 one, remapping the 2024s and pretending to be stock while you make some big dogs sweat on the highway is a completely funny feeling, what i like about 1GDs is that their pistons aren't a weak link like the 1KD i have, but then 1kds crack pistons even when stock so i may as well enjoy the few KW i gained which i am. I made a comment that i have a 3" exhaust (no cat), a custom Airbox and a 150KW/430NM (at the wheels) remap, after custom Airbox i can barely touch 450°C (post turbo) on inclines, the car has run very cold especially after custom Airbox. Those stock airboxes are very restrictive, and i don't have a snorkel either.
@@FORTUNER_ADVENTURES if you're interested in power figures check out the Speedlab Channel remaps from Philippines.

Fucking pathetic installing a after market exhaust on a diesel Hilux, Land Cruiser or Fortuner. I see them daily with these new exhausts and they think they have this new sports car now. If you want to go fast buy a fast car. Stupid drivers.

Nice Henk!! Better low end torque is probably the biggest seat of the pants improvement. Your exhaust gas temperatures will also be lower, which in turn improves overall coolant and oil temperatures. 76mm sounds lekker too!!

This is a great video. Planning to start doing overlanding. How would you rate the A-TRAC system? Is it really needed for overlanding and occasional 4x4 trail? Reason I am asking, I can get a 2021 Fortuner 2.4 auto 4x4 for a bargain. But I believe they don't have the A-TRAC system. I want to keep this vehicle long term. Will I regret not having the 2.8 and A-TRAC. I won't be doing 4x4 trails or overlanding every weekend. It would be the occasional trip to Botswana and Nimibia. The 4x4 trails will be your normal trials. None of these obstacles you damage your vehicle. Also looking to do a 2inch lift and 265/70R17 tyres with a 4x4 bumper. Another thing, I am not planning on doing any towing. Your thoughts would be highly appreciated 🙏
Thank you very much. Appreciate the positive feedback. To answer your question, the A-Trac system is a very good system. Do you need it? Not really, I believe the model you are looking at getting will have a Difflock as well. Even without difflock you just need to adapt your driving style when driving offroad. So according to me it will not be a deal breaker. I have seen people go a long way without traction control or even a difflock. The 2.4 is a good engine, I know your at not planning on towing, but you will be able to anyway. I had a 2.4 Hilux and it was a good vehicle to drive (was a work vehicle I drove almost every day). For tyres have a look at the link in my video description, there is a code you can use for Maxxis tyres. Shout if you have any more questions.
@@4WheelingSA Thanks for the quick response and the guidance. Will then go with the 2.4 and not look back. Really appreciate it. Maybe one day we will cross paths while overlanding.
