I restore BMX bikes, mountain bikes, klunkers and road bikes. Basically, any bicycle, vintage or modern, that catches my interest and would make a great video. I'm always looking for opportunities to bring old bicycles back to life!
Creating a channel such as this one, to build and restore vintage bicycles of all kinds, has been a concept in the works for several years. In addition to working on vintage BMX bicycles, I'll work on vintage mountain bikes, old Schwinn balloon tire bikes and old mountain bikes.
Bicycles have played a significant role in my life going back to age seven when I got my first Sears "Spider" 20 inch bicycle. At 14, I was riding BMX and continue to ride and race at 62. When mountain bikes were developed in the late 1970s, I was part of this movement as well. I worked in two different bicycle shops during high school and was sent to the Schwinn factory for Schwinn Service School in 1981.
Thank you for finding this channel!

hi tim, here is a update on my huffy (rebranded coast king) monoshock project...... about a week after I first watched your video I got my monoshock rideable and found some major problems with with it. All the hardware was worn out for the rear swing arm and the frame had a big crack where the seat post tube meets the bb. Me and my dad are going to weld a gusset to make the frame a little bit more reliable for the 15 year old and 59 year old teenagers that will be riding it! 🤣 my dad use to own a black and blue huffy thunder trail monoshock and used it as a fire road basher when he was a kid so it will be really cool to see him back on a bike similar to the one he use to own when he was a kid!
A 10-speed from Sears and Roebuck the brand name was .. free spirit..
I used to race with Tracer in ABA. I was there when he lost the tip of his finger. I lived just down from Tracer and Mike on Spencer. My parents worked with Mickey for decades. I remember them well. They have no idea who I am, though. Oh, well... LOL
Fork Spring on one side and oil in other side. a HUGE FLAW in design remember when a kid a really was pissed abut how stupid that functioned and poorly it worked.
in about 1977 had the 3-piece crank was very difficult to get it to work and find good parts for that crappy design, bike was dead-lined a lot because of crank.
Had one of these in about 1977 (used) had 3-piece crank that was difficult to keep working, it was very heavy and clunky. stripped paint that was chipped up and painted flatt black. lost track of it in a shed in about 1979 in Iowa.

Great video!!! Thank you for sharing the event
Thanks a bunch! Just trying to keep the pedal to the metal and capture all the BMX action for you!
What a cool episode! And even cooler museum.
Thanks Joe! It’s definitely a museum where you can "wheelie" appreciate the art of BMX!
Hey RadMattic, Do you know which tire size you've used? Im curious, as i want to add a MX1000 rear to my MTB build. Do you think the Dia Compe have clearance for 26x2.2 tires?
They are Michelin Country Racer tires. 26 x 2.10. There appears to be about 1/4" space left on either side between tire and brake caliper. You might be able to run 26 x 2.2! It will be close! Thanks for watching!
I was the delivery guy in Bellwood il. NOT A SAFE PLACE ANYMORE.
Sounds like Bellwood needs a new delivery superhero! Maybe we should start a campaign for safer delivery routes!
❤
Thanks for watching!
Rad as Fuuk is BMX roots.... with great awe and respect from Dublin Ireland.
Thanks for the love! BMX has such a rich history, and it's awesome to connect with fans from around the world! Cheers!
Hi this is Mark Moody out of Wichita Kansas. I used to know Tim lillithorp. I was going to say hi. Chris Hayden and I used to travel with Tim Richardson.
Hi Mark! This is Tim! Hello to you as well my old friend! I hope you are doing well. I'll tell Chris Heyden you said hello too! Next time I'm in Wichita, we will need to have lunch or dinner! So may great memories with you and the Kansas crew! Happy New Year!
Hi Mark
i'd love to come over from UK to this show. Is it on again this year?
Heck yeah! It’s happening again this year! You gotta come and check it out - it’s gonna be a blast!
this is hour from me never knew they had this
That's awesome! The Museum of American Speed has some incredible exhibits. You should definitely check it out!
Great job guys that was awesome
Thank you for the kind words! We really appreciate your support and are thrilled you enjoyed the showcase of the Museum of American Speed!
Idk what took so long. Bmx goes so far back with almost ever generation. Bmx = racing
Thank you for your insight! BMX has indeed been a staple in many lives, and it’s amazing to celebrate its journey through time.
Great job guys. The Place is world class.
Thanks! If only I could ride one of those bikes as fast as I can talk about them! Hey Ron! We should take a trip down there again and check out the entire museum. Maybe in January we could make a short road trip! Happy New Year to you and your Mom!
@@RadMattic You know I'm available, pretty much anytime.
JMC is my favorite, I raced a JMC shadow for year's. Great show guys and happy new year 🎉
We really appreciate your support! It's awesome to hear you raced a JMC Shadow-what a fantastic bike! Wishing you a Happy New Year!
I just got a Syndyt cruiser and it's definitely so much more stable and fast. It was so nice to hear TH actually put his own experience and tests all his products.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s great to see how Toby’s dedication translates into quality products that riders love. I've got my eyes on a Syndyt cruiser as well!
When will Toby stick to one brand!!!! Race Inc. THE! It’s hard to get behind him, especially knowing it’s not about jumping in every new bmx bike brand!!! Mongoose, Redline and GT!!! Done!!!!! At the end of the day it’s all about training and dedication to nutrition… Bubba won titles on crappy hubs yr after yr.
Maybe Toby just can't resist the allure of shiny new bikes! It's like a kid in a candy store, but with more wheels and less sugar! BMX is all about ideas, cool new products and innovation! Toby is good at this.
Miss those days. Started out with a Schwinn scrambler in Northern California then I built up a Torker the way I wanted it and loved racing it for years. They were the best days of my life. It's not like it used to be.
Sounds like you had the perfect recipe for BMX bliss: a Torker, a bit of creativity, and some serious racing action! Who needs fancy gadgets when you have nostalgia?
you people in the Midwest email you back and will personally call, you don't get anyone that does that best ever.
Midwest hospitality at its finest! Who knew BMX legends could also double as customer service representatives?
you bet i will ring the bell, best show iv seen in a while
Thank you so much for the support! It means a lot to us that you’re enjoying the podcast!
I'm always down to hear the history and new products from Mr. Toby Henderson. I can't get enough of these podcast which motivate me further in my small world of Bmx here in sunny Fayetenam, NC! Thank you for interviewing the Legend himself. I fully enjoyed every moment, questions, and his explanation of the SYNDYT brand. Awesome!
Thank you so much for your kind words! It was an honor to have Toby on the podcast, and I'm thrilled to hear it motivated you in your BMX journey. Keep shredding!
Still use my THE One helmet. lol
Thanks for sharing! It's great to hear that you're still rocking THE One helmet-safety first!
Growing up in Australia BMXA was a bible and SO CAL looked like heaven..
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It's amazing how BMX culture connects us all, no matter where we are.
I still have a THE fender
Nice! Just remember, with great fenders comes great responsibility-like not getting them too muddy! Very cool you still have one!
So much history here, thanks, gentlemen, and I agree because I was one, so many kids in California had parents from other states, mine were from Michigan and Ohio. But there was a great migration into California in the '60s and then, bingo, lots of kids became California kids and for me it was starting at age five in a trailer park in Coalinga, loved those kids and an older girl named Sherry even gave me her old pedal car and I always called it the Sherry Car. And then it was a move to Twin Peaks in San Francisco where I got a Schwinn Sting-Ray for my birthday during the Summer of Love and rode all over with my friends who taught me the fine art of zig-zagging up those steep streets and flying back down and skidding at the bottom. But kids moved away, too, and I did in late '74, we left Pacifica for Frankfurt, West Germany when BMX was becoming a thing in Northern California but O well, I was happy in Frankfurt on my bike, my thumbnail is me jumping my Sting-Ray in early '75 in Frankfurt. And for sure, the magazine coverage of the Yamaha Gold Cup played big in my imagination and that was an amazing thing about magazines, an ad or photo or cover became something cool forever. And I might have to get a Syndyt cruiser to be like Stuart and line up next to him to see if he still has his chops. That'd be fun, fun like racing up and down Donner Street in Fresno in '71 under that warm California sun. 😀
Thank you for sharing such a detailed and nostalgic story! It’s always fascinating to hear how BMX has impacted people's lives and created lasting memories. Your experiences are truly inspiring!
@@RadMattic Thanks for your kind words and yes, it was great to be one of those kids who took it all seriously, speed and skills and thrills. And in Frankfurt, I rode my Sting-Ray and a 10-speed, then saw a little ad in Dirt Bike magazine for a mail-order CYC Stormer and by early '76, there I was on that bike in the Drake-Edwards Housing Area and beyond, Frankfurt had lots of gravel paths and lots of open dirt spaces, too. Plus I was street-legal on a 50cc Honda Dax, like the Honda Trail 70 in the States, and I bought a used '73 Maico 250 with my after-school commissary job money and thanks to that Maico I became friends with Herr Mueller, the local Maico dealer, and he told me that Marty Smith would be racing the 125 German GP and talk about unbelievable, I went from reading about Marty in all the magazines to seeing him before that '76 race in a lawn chair outside a tent like he was on a camping trip. And I brought along my Stormer and showed it to him and he said, yeah, it looked like what all the kids back home were riding. And talk about a sports superstar more more than living up to expectations, Marty was it, he was kind to me and the few other Americans at the track that day, everyone else was there for the Europeans and Gaston Rahier won that day, boo hiss, lol. And after that race, I rode a section of the course on my bike, not far but still, I rode my CYC Stormer on a GP track on race day, big fun. And for sure I will get a BMX Action T-shirt. I won my first bicycle road race in '75 in Frankfurt and I wore a brand-new STP T-shirt for the occasion. I had to look cool, or at least try, lol. Thanks again for stepping up to the microphone, these conversations are like a Garrison Keillor monologue about his mythical and beloved Lake Wobegon, where past and present mingle together as recollections and marvels and discoveries and anecdotes and smiles, tho' I don't recall him ever chatting about rent-a-wrecks. 😀
Lve the video bro👍😊
Thank you so much! Your support means a lot to me; I’m glad you loved the video!
Awesome show guys. Syndyt, what a sweet bike. I want one. Looking forward to future shows. 👌
Thanks, dude! Syndyt’s bike is sick, right? Can’t wait to drop more episodes for you!
Great interview with Toby. Glad I got to catch up with you at the HOF Toby. Best of luck on the new bikes. They look awesome.
Dude… I have that THE Vegas helmet!
Ah, the Vegas helmet! Perfect for those who ride like they’re on the Strip-fast and flashy!
I only remember Hollywood Henderson from the early Mountain bike days when he rode for Iron Horse. Obviously, a lot of the old school BMXers grew up & naturally crossed over the MTB world (Brian Lopes, Mike King, Eric Carter). So many good memories.
It’s like a BMX soap opera! Heroes crossing over, plot twists with every pedal stroke. Hollywood Henderson is definitely a legend in both worlds!
Legend 🙌
Haha, thanks! Miranda sure is a legend! Just trying to keep it rad over here with guys like Hollywood Mike!
Moto up Toby Henderson 💯🚲🍻
Thanks for tuning in! Toby's story is legendary, and it’s great to see so many fans supporting him! Moto up? More like "Toby up!" His skills could probably make even a unicycle look cool!
Thanks 4 sharing 🚲🍻 I have a toby Henderson shirt that says moto up on it
30 sec. in Nice G-BOY w/gold bars!
Absolutely! G-BOY bringing the bling while we dive into BMX legends-what a combo! Wish we still had that bike!
Are there any grassroots BMX programs? Is it all USABMX sanctioned?
Yes, there are several grassroots BMX programs that focus on building the sport at the community level. While USABMX sets the standards, many local organizations offer opportunities for riders of all ages and skill levels! Check with your local track first as a starting point. Here's some information about BMX Racing League; www.bmxracingleague.com/about-6
Whatever happend to Jason Bruton from Diamondback?
Jason Bruton? Last I heard, he was off somewhere perfecting the art of the perfect wheelie-maybe he's just too busy showing off! Seriously though, possibly someone reading these comments can fill us in on his whereabouts!
The jingle, theme song, call it what you want ia just bad, the lyrics, key, execution. Let me try in my poor english express: just dump it. As good looking as the syndit frame: ugly.
Ouch! Sounds like the jingle needs a little more "tune-up" than I thought! Maybe we should hire a professional jingle surgeon! Funny though, on Christmas Eve our entire neighborhood was Christmas Caroling the town with the Super Rad BMX Jingle!
Orange Y needs to be back....Yorba Linda also...
Ah, the classic debate of locations! Maybe we should start a petition-"Bring Back Orange Y and Yorba Linda: The BMX Renaissance!"
I worked with Voris Dixon in Kent Washington, welding sporting chairs. Super cool dude.
That sounds awesome! Voris Dixon is definitely a legend in the BMX community. It's great to hear about your experience working with him!
Shoot you guy's got me freaking LAUGHING OUT LOUD AND TEARING UP ABOUT HOW AGED I AM AND YES, A NEW SUBSCRIBER, Thank you !!!
Welcome to the crew! Just remember, age is just a number-kind of like the number of times I’ve wiped out on my BMX bike! Thank you for subscribing!
Over his head. He was over everybody's head....! Awsome shot...!!
Haha, it's true! I think he’s operating on a whole different level-like BMX astronaut status! 🚀
@ 😂 Yeah Bionic Astronaut….. Good old days, beautiful…!!
Beautiful video job well done 🇺🇸
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and the showcase of these amazing bikes!
Supper cross and torker!

What bottom bracket was installed?
Great question! Thanks for your interest in the build. I used a Black Ops brand bottom bracket conversion kit with a Profile sealed bottom bracket and Profile cranks for this custom Klunker!
