Lonergan Cues - Making a new shaft for broken pool cue
Переглядів 3,6 тис.2 місяці тому
This cue came in for repair with a nasty break towards the tip end of the cue. It was badly splintered and couldn't be saved. The customer decided to have a joint put into the cue and a new shaft made for it. The grain is a good match to the original and is a top quality piece of ash. Hope you enjoy the video! www.lonergancues.com

Cue Construction Part 3 - Second Splices
Переглядів 5885 місяців тому
With two splices already on the cue, this video shows the next steps in the process. The initial splices are planed down to reduce the amount of excess ebony, then two more flat sections are planed by hand. Ebony is prepared and glued in place.
Ikea Ivar Making Handles From Snooker Balls
Переглядів 1267 місяців тому
Step by step video showing how I used a couple of old snooker balls to make new handles for the Ikea Ivar cabinet. The cabinet is great quality but unless you plan on staining and finishing it properly, the raw timber will quickly get dirty in a workshop environment. These should help me keep it clean!
Cue Construction Part 2 - Ebony Preparation

Preparing the material for the butt of the cue is the next step in the process. There are many different timbers which can be used but in this instance it's ebony.
Cue Construction Part 1 - Initial Splicing
Переглядів 6498 місяців тому
This video shows the initial process of cutting the first two splices ready for the exotic timber to be added to the cue butt. All cue makers will do things differently, this is the way I do it. I prefer to use hand planes because I find that they offer superior control and the final products are much more consistent.

    Didn’t coring out the lead change how the cue felt. Not a criticism just interested 😊

      @lukepbriggs6225 With this repair there were massive changes to the cue, for a start it was 1 piece and had to be made into a jointed cue and also the shaft is brand new and not the original. Those things would have made a much bigger difference to how the cue felt than drilling through the lead.

    What is the tin you're rubbing the plane over?

    • @DiaryOfACuemaker
      @DiaryOfACuemaker 5 місяців тому

      It's just a rag soaked in oil. It's the perfect way to add lubrication to planes and panel saws to reduce friction.

    Excellent video Mr. Lonergan. Please may I ask, why couldn't you have removed more of the excess ebony whilst the cue was in the lathe?

    • @DiaryOfACuemaker
      @DiaryOfACuemaker 5 місяців тому

      It's obviously a very uneven shape and the stress put on the timber as it spins is pretty substantial and so there will be massive flex in the cue, which isn't exactly safe. Also the tips of the ebony splices are very thin so can easily splinter off. Ultimately it's quicker and safer to do it by hand.
