Hello , Just watched it . Thank you very much for the details , as I planning to visit and then hopefully move there. Regards
Thank you for watching 😊
Here’s at the moment in Moscow lol
You didn’t mention Patong!! The most crowded place. Any way I was there for 9 nights. I had fun but I wouldn’t consider it for business. Where do you recommend for people making business like IT, E-commerce and digital marketing? Is it Phuket town ? Do you agree with that?
I didn't mention Patong as I didn't consider it as a good place to reside long term 😉 Phuket Town would be a good choice for business, but honestly for the type of businesses that you are mentioning, I think anywhere on the Island that you were most comfortable living would be ok to do business as most of your communication would be online I guess?
9:30 is where you get the answer. your welcome.
There's a KFC at Rawai?(in your vid)🤔I'll have to clean me glasses I cant find it lol.🍗🐔
The KFC that you see in the video was in the 'concept' plan for the Rawayana complex. It wasn't actually there last time I saw this complex, but I guess it's in the plans eventually! I wish it wasn't! I prefer the Thai homestyle fried chicken any day!
I absolutely loved this insightful and in-depth video. It's the best one I've ever seen on living in Phuket. I have spent around 6 months living in Phuket, my 2 favourite areas are Bang Tao and Nai Harn, and I always jump between those locations. Hope to return soon!
Wow! Thank you for such a kind comment, I really appreciate it! I hope you get to return to Phuket soon.
@@luluandjay_escapetothailand you're very welcome! :)
I'm a Kiwi living in Phuket. Been here a while now, used to love the place however I'm over. It's not like it used to be. Too many ferals from 2 or 3 countries have ruined it. The traffic is insane and the cost of living is through the roof. My Thai g/f and I will be coming to have a look at Hua Hin beginning of next year. Thanks for the great vid.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. There have definitely been some challenges in Phuket over the last couple of years. I can imagine if you'd been living there for some time, you would see some noticeable changes and a lot of them not so good. It's good to go and see what other options there are. I hope you find your new piece of paradise.
Hi from Rodney locals! My Thai wife and I planning on living at least 3 months of the year in Thailand from next year. We have stayed in many Thai provinces and Phuket is expensive however you have highlighted how expensive NZ is! It's a struggle here. Thank you so much!
Hello Rodney neighbours! Yes Phuket is expensive for Thailand, but when you compare it to NZ it still looks great! Hua Hin is another great place, where you get a lot of the perks of Phuket, but at a lower cost.
@luluandjay_escapetothailand yes agreed, we spent two weeks in Hua Hin and one in Phuket and Khon Kaen in March/ April this year. Phuket was crazy , too many people for us, Hua Hin was more relaxing and Khon Kaen beautiful rural environment but with a well appointed city.
I like the Rawayana, it replaced alot of bars... too many bars in Rawai in my opinion.
That's a good point. I'm not a bar person myself, so I see your perspective.
I've lived in all 3 countries. Avocados aside, food and fruits are ridiculously more expensive in nz than Australia, let alone in Thailand. To do such a comparison is fun but a practical joke ! The reverse makes so much more sense.
Yes just for fun. I've done a couple of videos about the cost of living in Phuket, but while I'm in NZ temporarily, it's interesting and fun to do a bit of a comparison. Thanks for your comment!
I am a Kiwi living in Rawai Phuket. Single male 59 on a retirement visa. My fully furnished one bedroom apartment in a nice part of the island costs me 10000 baht a month.(I will let you work out the currency conversion). This includes electricity and water. I ride a 350cc Scooter which costs very little to run (95 gasoline is 36 baht L). I took it to a mechanic today for an oil change..engine and gearbox. Cost me 450 baht all up. Food varies as I eat out most nights at local restaurants. A nice pad thai dish costs 80 baht. One cold beer ..Heineken 500ml can 70 baht. I go to the beach most days to swim and relax. I will stay here until I go tits up. I could never live this lifestyle back in NZ. Its just too expensive.
Yes, spot on! You've got a great deal on your apartment including electricity and water. We were in a villa because we had our Daughter with us at the time, but when we return in April 2025, we will be looking for a one beddie apartment to cut down the accomodation portion of our budget.
Pensioners in Australia are struggling, yet by moving to Thailand they can live . The government should be ashamed.
Yes, I agree!
If you are in a free hold house with no debts the pension in NZ and Australia is perfectly livable, sure your not going on any overseas holidays unless you have other Kiwisaver or Aus Super. If you are renting or still have a hefty mortgage, sure good luck then.
@@Battleneter, Wrong. As plenty of my relatives are on the Oz pension and own their own property, example a small 2 br flat, the property tax, strata fees, insurance, electricity, gas ,water, emergency services levy etc does not leave them enough to live on. The old age pension is around $23,000 a year. ACOSS has done an investigation for many years and their current figure is a single person needs around $53,000. I think most people would trust ACOSS over the government or other commentators.
@@sdnalyam Mate if you cannot live on a joint state pension of AU/NZ$850 ish (in the hand) a week for food and utilities only (2 people) , with no rent or Mortgage, then you have some serious budgeting issues. But I will say if you have zero emergency money saved for the car breaking down etc, then sure it would be tougher.
@@Battleneter my Mum was mortgage free in her own property but the pension was not enough for her to have even a reasonable lifestyle. Lucky for her she had six kids that all paid her 'pocket money' each week so that she could have the occasional coffee out and buy the odd piece of clothing. I think you definitely need extra retirement funds besides from the pension in NZ at least.
Thank you!
You are welcome!
Kamala is not part of Cherngtalay.
Thanks, I’ve had that pointed out a couple of times now. Lesson learned! 😉
Sounds like you need an electric car, it would significantly cut fuel costs
Thailand is a 10X on most other places around the globe.
Thankyou for reminding me why I left and never to return.
It's a bit like that isn't it? I can't wait to get back to Thailand.
🇵🇸❤️❤️❤️
Hi mate,great honest vid!!.thanks😀✌️
Thanks! I appreciate it ☺
I wouldn't lump Kamala in with Cherngtalay; they are very different places, and even travelling between them can be a pain, especially in high season. There's still a village feel to Kamala, which is very different to Cherngtalay. Getting to Boat Avenue in Cherngtalay from Kamala (and from Surin) can take as much as 30 minutes in high season. Technically, Kamala is in Kathu, anyway.
Thanks for your comment @annwilliams5590 you have made some great points
I have lived in phuket for 7 years and actually living since few months on the mainland near koh samui. I'm thinking of moving to a quiter tourist destination like Hua hin. It's also not far away from BKK and central Thailand. Will u also move to hua hin? Phuket is also nice and has it's own charm and vibe, but it's too crowded and i hate the traffic and hectic there.
We are still thinking of it. Definitely tempting. Phuket has got very manic particularly in high season. Thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it!
I watched one of your videos with the introduction. It started with the sound of the wind, a drone shot of the big Buddha on a hill, the music faded in, and sharp text displaying the family. It was an impressive introduction. It is a shame that UA-cam algorithms don't like it. I am in the process of trying to decide Hua Hin vs Phuket. The main reason that you selected Phuket is that you are already settled. You know people and the streets. However, it seems "my guess" if you had to do it again you would have picked Hua Hin? The most significant negative for Hua Hin is the three-hour drive to the airport compared to one hour in Phuket (from Rawi). Again, thanks for the video, I will be in Hua Hin and Phuket in Aug & Sept of this year! Most likely, I will pick Hua Hin over Phuket.
Thank you for your kind words about our video. Maybe if I persevere I will have success with the UA-cam Algorithms eventually. The main reason we continue to opt for Phuket is really the community we live in and the friends we have made. If we were thinking purely from the head instead of the heart then I think Hua Hin would win.
Great video i usually stay in karon Im looking at different areas to see where i want to retire
Thank you for your lovely feedback, I appreciate it! It can be overwhelming choosing an area to retire. I definitely recommend 'trying out' different areas. Book accomodation for a month at a time and get a really good feel for the area.
On this budget you essentially had a 1 year holiday, living your best life with your family which is awesome for your family. I wouldn't say this is the standard 1 year budget to "live". Thailand has a budget for all. Depends on ones standard of living.
You are absolutely right in saying that Thailand has a budget for everyone and it definitely depends on each individual's expectations with regards to standards of living. My expectations are to live a 'better' life than I would in my home Country. So perhaps it looks like a holiday budget, but I want to continue to be able to eat out, travel, play sport, attend the gym, meet friends for coffee, etc. That's what I want my retirement to look like. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch my video and comment, I appreciate it!
Hi Lou, great to have found your channel and especially the budget breakdown, can you please clarify what 'personal cash' is in your budget, just in a broad sense as it is quite a chunk of your weekly spend. Good luck with your adventures, we hope to get there one day too!
Thanks for your comment and that is a great question about the personal cash. It was mainly that my Husband preferred to use cash for his transactions so it was difficult to specifically categorise this spending, but generally it went towards eating out, socialising, sports massage and things like that.
Miss your beautiful home in Arkles ❤ It was a special place for us to stay while in NZ
Hi Rachel! I was thinking of you yesterday, we must catch up over WhatsApp! Yes our home by the river is a special place. We are in NZ at the moment, but haven't moved back into our home as the tenants have settled in and we only plan on being here for short term, so didn't want to upset the apple cart 🙂
Thank you thank you for the accounting. I am visiting Hua Hin on 7th Aug; I will be there for three weeks and then off to Phuket. I'm still determining where I will move to (perhaps near the airport) in Phuket. One of the most expensive 3-bedroom private pool villas is $1,600.00 (Hua Hin). This is not true in Phuket. After 3 months in Thailand, I will go back to the USA. Then, in January, I am moving back full-time. Some days, I want to move to Hua Hin, and some days, I want to move to Phuket. I like the selection in Phuket and the short drive to the airport. However, the prices are much higher. I am guessing -here- 700 dollars a month higher in rent?! Again, thanks for the information. Don't worry about stupid people on the internet. Some of these comments are totally inappropriate for grown-ups. I found your video both informative and entertaining.
Thank you for your supportive comments! It's a great idea to visit both areas to see what you prefer. Honestly in general I would say rent is double the price for comparable properties in Phuket than Hua Hin. It does make Hua Hin a tempting choice! I think the seasons are quite as severe in Hua Hin either; you would have seen a lot of news from Phuket lately about extreme flooding, and that is quite common in rainy season. Hua Hin not having an international airport can be a positive and a negative. On the positive side it stops it from over tourism as it's not quite as easy to get to. Good luck with your decision!
Soi dog is a true blessing for our four legged friends. They have saved and rehabilitated so many lives!!! Donate and support them
Yes it's a wonderful foundation. I've done a video on our whole experience there.
Favorite video yet, legends
There's really nothing quite like it!
Great vid. Thanks for the tips and for your honest accounting. Good to see you're enjoying life there and doing a lot of energetic activities too! Look forward to our move there in July 2024. Keep the dream alive!
Thanks for your lovely comment. How exciting that you are moving there in July! I'm sure you will love it as much as we have.
I recently visited your UA-cam channel and noticed its appealing aesthetics. However, during my exploration, I came across several issues that I believe need attention. One area that stood out to me is the SEO aspect, particularly the lack of optimized tags and tag volume. It seems like these elements haven't been adequately addressed. Additionally, there might be other concerns that require your attention
Hello from Kiwi as well ,Married to my Thai Wife for the Last 20 yrs retired and know most things in Thailand ,Phuket will never be the same due to 60/90 day Visa which are destroying Phuket from certain Nationalities ,Love Hua Hin .Better to buy a Town House ,no Problem otherwise you have to set a Company to Purchase a Good home .Prices are Very good the other Location is Cha am worth looking into as well ,Following your Channel any updates appreciated Cheers
Thank you for your message! Good advice, we will check out Cha Am as well.

I was thinking of you yesterday! We must catch up x
You got a crazy deal on that house. I've looked on fazwaz and can't find anything nearly that cheap. What international school did your daughter attend?
The same house is for rent at the moment for 85,000 baht per month 😳 My Daughter attended Lighthouse International School in Rawai. It's average to be honest.
Oh and also I think the best place to look for rentals is Facebook Marketplace. I found FazWaz quite frustrating as a lot of the listings were out of date.
Enjoyable vid. Thanks.
Thank you 😊
Lovely to see Jay on screen (with you), again. We've missed her ❤
Aww thanks, that's so nice xx

Can’t wait to see your tax bill next year now Thailand are taxing all monies remitted into Thailand
You misunderstand the tax rules. We are very aware of our liabilities.
What a joke 60000 baht a month on rent it’s like burning your money with your budget yes you can spend any budget, but wow, yours is excessive to the full
Do you live in Phuket? If I was single person looking for a one bedroom unit without a pool then sure this budget may seem excessive. But let me assure you that if you need three bedrooms and desire things like a pool and you want to live in an area such as Rawai or Bang Tao then 60K baht for rent is actually cheap for what is available right now. I have friends looking right now and it is impossible to find anything decent in Rawai for less than 60K. I'm not exactly sure if you are comparing my budget with one that is also for three people? Love to hear about your budget if your situation is similar.
Thanks for the update x you'll be back soon x
I hope so! xo
Time will fly past and you'll be back before you know it 😍
