Ohhh yea. the entire finish continually checked and cracked wayyyy past the point of satisfaction and right into panic. But, there's always a way forward. Part of me feels like it could be killer with corrections and another part of me knows I'll be far happier if I take the time to make it something worthing staring at. I guess we'll see. Anyways..... let me know in the comments!

We are wandering in the lovely western town of Jacumba California! Easily one of the best kept secrets of SoCal, this great little main street on historic HWY 80 hides 2 great little venues. The first is the Jacumba Bath house, which just recently had been an empty relic and is now hosting open air concerts in the evenings. The second is the Desert Tower. A beautiful structure with fascinating ...

Love your videos man. The technical aspect mixed with the personal introspection makes for such a great combination. Thank you so much for making these.
Copy Junk--That R is Cheap Junk From China putting the real deal down.. Long live Rickenbacker--China Junk can go to hell.
I don't see you email? do you have an instagram page? thanks
Very Cool! I love the care of your eye, I have a 1965 Musicmaster 2... bought it in 1982, pawn shop in Monroe, Louisiana, for $35 ... I'll try to email you a pic, it went through my punk and alternative bands to now...
Definitely not the best fender amp. Lol 90% of the people who are bragging on the tone master amps have never owned or been on stage and compared the tube vs TM side by side... there's definitely a difference.
So… I’ve got a blonde tonemaster twin. I play in a punk band. I generally use it on the highest settings at shows/practice, but it’s on 5 or so. Then on the lowest setting at home. I’ve got a half stack and I’ve got a blues jr too, but really haven’t played either of them since picking this up. It is kind of a do it all amp. I’ve never had a problem with it. Sounds great. Takes pedals. Easy to take places. Looks great. People have weird feelings about them, but it’s a legit great amp.
but why didn't you remove the electronics before sanding? That bothers me so much haha
Hey Brother! Hope you’re doing well. I’ve been thinking about you and send you good vibes! Guitar question: I’m making my own nut and when I took the old one out, the nitro clear on the head stock broke a bit. It looks like a rough white edge now. Can I wet sand it, or heat it up or clear over it again? Any thoughts are appreciated. Miss you! 🤟
You deffinanly connected the most with the junior
I dont blame you for not sanding to the bare wood. It's the biggest pain in the ass to sand around the horns and everything. Not worth doing unless it's a heavy poly coat as you don't want poly under nitro.
Your enthusiasm is inspiring.. keep going … ❤
Your problem might have been low voltage. Digital amps and keyboard modules don't like low voltage. Lab Series amps were known to have shut downs with low voltage and some people never experienced it too. I was doing a show on a hot August night just south of Boston and everyone in the city turned on their A/C. My keyboard player's modules began to shut down one by one until all he had was the stock piano patch and that died as soon as we finished.
Nice playing
Plus beware, many really bad people re selling them as the real deal. sometimes hard to tell from pics unless u know what to look for.
Don't have one , don't want one, somebody brings one to me I won't work on it. Knowingly buying something stolen or with a stolen trade mark is the same as stealing it yourself.I've heard every justification in the book and just can't condone them. I just saved and got a real LP. Got it used got a pretty good price on a 2007 plain top custom shop 58, (R8). 9th one made that year. Didn't do it to be a snob, just can't get into stealing. I don't know too many people that wouldn't be pissed if they got something stolen. Kinda the old do unto others.
Uuggghhhh. That break up sound is horrendous. Clean is king, and I use my multi effects for distortion.
Wonderful video! Question: Why not the blonde one? BTW checked out the new kinetics, great guitar, great fun!
Good review 😊. Subscribed now not sure about this one but i think everyone should have at least one Fender amp in their arsonal. They take pedals well. Take care 👋✌️🎸🎸
Hi Reilly!, Do you think it is feasible to buy a squier sonic mustang and change the bridge for an original fender mustang trem system and bridge? Btw, fantastic review and style you have, dude!
Aww shoot, I somehow missed this video. Thanks for keeping everyone updated with how you're doing. Your work is authentic, and your approach displays thoughtful, considerate insight. I hope you achieve your right balance of productivity and attention to your personal requirements!
100% agree!
Got 2 sonic mustangs, lovely guitars, great for blues and not starter guitars. OK for anyone. ❤️🎸.
They are a gas and a half to start in roughly destroyed shape and try to bring back to playable, though it takes serious time. I have a functional Russian Elta, a functional GDR Musima Deluxe 25 with 51P-bass pickups, a Jolana Basso IX, started as a broken body husk, now has a Kahler slanted bridge, Alumitone J pickups, 3 piece 3 color stacked plexi pickguard, Buick Skylark Blue paint with a clear colorshift overcoat (paid for the paint job), with an intact flourescent orange period correct form fit vinyl gig bag - eye abuse radical and sounds well. A destroyed Tonika being rebuilt, doing a neck swap with a 1970's Matsumoku neck, black pickguard, black body (that crazy super thick crackly gel paint) black HW (Fender style bridge, dome knobs) - gnarly. A once destroyed Jolana Iris bass (think Tele) rebuilt with 3D printed pickup covers. And lastly, a destroyed Bulgarian Orpheus Hebros semi hollow, red burst natural relic, uncertain if this one can be brought back. The GDR bass is definitely stage quality, along with the Jolanas to a lesser extent. Fun stuff if you like a challenge and want to learn on something more than a partscaster.
I have the red one and I also put a white pearl pickguard on mine along with red metal knobs, locking tuners and roller trees. Now I'm thinking I might upgrade the logo with waterslide decals. Awesome guitar, I'm very happy with it. I'm a fan of short scale guitars (though I am still more of a Strat guy.)
I experienced that same drop off and reboot. Once. Been solid ever since. One great attribute of this amp that gets overlooked is that it doesn’t pump out HEAT like tube amps do. That can really help in a small room. Great playing and video.
79 is my birth year. I’m on the hunt for a good Sierra Burst (which I thought this guitar here was). I haven’t seen a cherry burst. If they made cherry burst in 79, then THAT will be my new target. 🤘🏻
I have no amp repairers left in my city or anywhere remotely close by. I love the sound of tube amps but without anyone left to service theses amps the tech simply became to unreliable. Theres nothing to suggest if looked after this tone master amps wont last a life time, should it die well its not a huge financial outlay & i can ride the wave of digital evolution. Reliability is key for me.
I’ve been playing for decades and have seen a lot of guitar reviews - but man - this was a great review. You have a nice style and are genuinely insightful. Thanks - subbed.
Great video. I own one too (and the TM Deluxe Reverb). One of the many things I’ve had no issue with is just how reliable it is - also been really happy with the IR/XLR out…. Killer product. So versitatile.
Glad you like the xlr out. I like the convenience, but not in love with the tone. Plug ins help a bit.
Sam Ash, RIP.
Would love to see a vid on how to cut a “rough” with the screw method using a dremel. (Looked through your videos and didn’t see anything that looked related to this.) Solid content Sir!
I'm gonna read into that! And thank you, I appreciate it greatly!
That Jaguar is SWEET!
I bought a 1970 bassman ten in 2022 for $300
Thanks for the update! Always enjoy the zen of your process and genuine enthusiasm for the projects. Keep up the good work.
Hey Brother! Hope you’re doing well. I have a Mustang question: I got a nitro refin with comp stripes and the color on the stripes is off. Can I sand the clear coat off, tape off the stripes and paint over just the stripes? The base paint is good it’s just the stripes are bugging me. Thoughts?
Hey Bry! Let's ask this question first. Are the stripes raised as you lightly drag your nail over the visible edge? Or is the color nearly level with the body hue?
@@breilly66 it’s pretty level. When I drag my fingernail across I can feel no transition.
Hmm... okay. So the color is likely just a dusting but def under the clear. And the nitro could be pretty thin. The simplest way, would be to spray over the existing. Since the level is even without a step, an overspray can be laid on without the step ghosting upward into reflectivity. To cut into it without knowing the depth, would be like opening a package with a knife. Could break through a level not intended. :/
@@breilly66 yeah, seems iffy. The nitro is very thin. Glad I asked. I definitely don’t want to open a can of worms.
@@breilly66 thanks for your insight!
I’ve tried this and chemical strippers. I’m starting to think I’m just not any good at this part. I ALWAYS seem to gouge the underneath. I haven’t tried this particular technique though. I’m looking fwd to try it on my next project
I was really struggling with this process a few years ago on a project and was like "this doesn't work." Then this time I kinda stumbled onto the flat blade part and then I got a rhythm going. Hang in there Dean!
Take your time B… we have all been there.I have been watching your channel from what I assume was the beginning, when I stumbled across it many moons ago ! We all share the same passion for the gift of music and the instruments we play, build or create out of parts and pieces!
The rebooting was almost certainly a loss of power - not the amp.
I think you're right. Just the other day it did it again. Like alot. Changed out my boards power strip and bam. Right as rain.
No apologies necessary. We all go through things. Take care, be well and thank you!
You're a great guitarist brother!
Too kind too kind! Thank you! Appreciate you Brother!
Your channel is truly unique and your content is superb, standing out amidst a mass of very generic guitar content on UA-cam. Hang in there. Technical question; you rarely, if ever, seem to clear coat your vintage fender refins after laying down the color coat. Why is that?
Appreciate that greatly. 🙏 Regarding the clear, I find that a solid can very easily brought up to shine and that metallics tend to tint or get dull in their radiance with a top coat. Now translucents..... those I always clear over once I hit the hue and opacity desired. This way it stays during any leveling wetsanding or buffing. :)
Hope all is well. I'm looking forward to when you get around to putting out the next little film. Take care of yourself, I'll be here and clicking whenever it pops up. Take care bro
Brian, you do you and take care of yourself... Just for you I just picked up the Sonic Mustang and busted out (in my poor playing) the beginning of Little Wing. If you want to grab a beer and unload for a bit, just hit me up dude. Stay Classy...
Normal people buy new shiny Fender Acoustasonics.
I'll take a beat up old acoustic any day over one of those...
Hey B, so good to hear that your prioritizing your health. Thank you for the update. We’ll be here when you get back.
You have to take care of your MH. I sympathize. Thanks for doing what you do!
Thanks for the update! I’ve been rewatching your Mustang videos in the interim. 🤟
Are you using Meguiars Mirror Glaze?
The McGuires compound I the black bottle
Tacky stencil
Get over yourself. Most shows I play there are several TRs in loading. Stenciling amps is not for looks. It's so gear doesn't get lost or disputed.
Great video -- I also have question about changing out the anodized gold pick guard. Where did you obtain the tortoise shell pick guard and does swapping it with the gold anodized pick guard cause any hum issues for you ? I've heard that from some that once the anodized pick guard goes, the noise starts.
I just picked up a JMJM last week and am starting to mod it this week. Starting with changing the anodized gold pickgaurd. Can you tell me where you got the tortoise shell one in this video? Also, did you have to do anything special when changing it out, or was it pretty much drop in and go?
