    I think the piranha isn’t a good choice for new players. If I were to recommend a 20 tonner the flea is a good choice, its a very strong mech rn, and it teaches how to play mechs with very high agility, speed, and masc, since those are all very important in todays meta. Though it might be difficult at first for a newer player to get used to so maybe more of an intermediate mech. If I had to recommend something it would probably be the firestarter A I believe it is, tanky, teaches poptarting, and has backup small lasers. And the masc urbie, tanky, and teaches masc. I would also put the phoenix hawk 7S up there as a good choice, although not a light it plays fairly similarly to one, it teaches poptarting, and also teaches masc, it has very good mounts, and small laser backups. The bushwhacker is a very good choice for dakka, I think I would recommend the X1 instead. But I would also add the Hunchback IIC A, which is very good for laservomit The marauder is a good mech but I feel like MRMs won’t teach as much as something like laservomit or dakka. I would probably recommend something like a timber wolf S, or a black knight 6b, both are fairly tanky the black knight even more so, but the timber gets ecm, both also are pretty fast for heavies. I might even put the exe here as well even though it’s an assault it teaches masc, and poptarting, and has backups, and it’s fast enough that it kind of plays like a super tanky heavy. And I probably would have put an assault or two here since most assaults play much different the everything else, and kind of are a completely different beast then everything else in most cases. I would probably recommend the Mad Cat MK II B for dakka, and the Stalker 7D for laservomit, both are fairly tanky, and are decently fast, and have good mounts.

    I reapectfully disagree on the mech choice for the medium and the weapons on the heavy option. I think that the centurion would be a better learning tool for beginners due to it having a wider toolkit for weapons and its shield arm will reinforce on how to spread damage. And for the maruader i think that using something like lazers/ppc's would be a better option to teach newcomers about heat management since its overall strength can make up for mismanaged heat and still fight hard. Overall though i think the idea gets out very well

    Bushwacker is really good mech but my favorite is Viper. Viper is not easy to use but once you master it it is really good mech. I like to play custom Viper with 9 heavy small lazers for hit and run tactics fully utilizing my mobility.

    I wouldn't recommend a knife-fighting 20 ton mech. They require mastery of situational awareness, aiming and piloting. The melee dance is something few players, even experienced ones, can pull off effectively and most players just get deleted immediately. Your other suggestions are great but for a light, something like the wolfhound or incubus are more forgiving.

  • @AronFigaro
    @AronFigaro 9 місяців тому

    I really don't like these recommendations. The Piranhas are all VERY high skill floor mechs that require patience and good circling. The new light mech player wants to learn battle flow and escape routes, so something that can play at 400-600m and has some armor bonuses to make it more forgiving is a much better pick. I'd suggest the ACH-Prime with 2 heavy larges, a Spider 5D with 2 ERLLs, or maybe a wolfhound or a raven with 3, though a new player may find the lack of jump jets annoying. I definitely like your choice of medium, and the MRM vomit Marauder's not a bad pick for a heavy either, but frankly a lot of heavies will work. Anything that can play at mid range, and has good shield arms to encourage the new player to torso twist and use that torso speed is exactly what you want to teach with. I also agree with not putting newbies in assaults.

    Background: I'm a dedicated light jock (~30% of matches) who's consistently ~97% percentile on Jarl's List. Just to be clear that I have a little bit of an idea what I'm talking about. I would strongly advise against new players buying *any* 20t light as their introduction to the class. 20-tonners have a much higher skill floor than most lights, just as lights in general have a higher skill floor than heavies or assaults. If someone is playing MWO as their first MW experience they're going to lack the mechanics and game knowledge required to keep it alive. 20t lights are also the most desperate for XL+ES+FF+DHS due to their extremely restricted tonnage, which makes them a much more expensive prospect than the chassis price indicates. They also tend to be very range-restricted. You can technically run 6xML on some, but new players will cook themselves with that. My personal pick for "I want a fast, small skirmishing light" for new players would be an OSR-4D. You can run 6xML or 6xSPL with an XL280 + extra DHS + 4JJ, or ditch some JJs for LAMS. You can even drop all the JJ and the extra DHS to fit a light engine. It's almost as fast and small as a 20t but can run a one-sided peek build with better range and more armor to boot. Other solid picks, as others have pointed out, are Wolfhounds and urbies. BSW and MAD are both solid new player options, but after you mentioned sticking to simpler weapons in the intro I'm not sure why you're recommending a UAC-favoring BSW. You *know* new players are going to spam-click the UACs and jam constantly. Something like a HBK-4G with 2x AC/5+3t ammo, 3x ML, LFE280, and full armor isn't exactly peak tier 1 meta, but it's simple and reliable, which is what new players need while learning core mechanics.

    • @AronFigaro
      @AronFigaro 9 місяців тому

      As someone in about the same stat bracket: I completely agree. The OSR-4D is a lot less safe than my recommendations of playing longer range skirmishers (HLL Arctic Cheetah, ERLL spider) but that and the Wolfhounds are probably the best option for getting in closer. I think if people really want to learn to circle and ankle bite they should probably watch b33f and play that locust.

    • @YarHarFD
      @YarHarFD 9 місяців тому

      Similar player here, completely agree. Knife fighting in a 20 ton is peak skill-based gameplay. Definitely not for newbies. I started in a sniping raven 3l many years ago (still effective btw, just not as great as it used to be) and slowly moved in closer. A new player should be in something can can survive a few hits, so 30 or 35 tons is what I would recommend.

    • @228R_LavaDa1shi
      @228R_LavaDa1shi 3 місяці тому

      I agree about the piranha, not completely about 20 tonners though, the flea is a alright choice, its a very strong mech rn, and it teaches how to play mechs with very high agility, speed, and masc, since those are all very important in todays meta. Though it might be difficult at first for a newer player to get used to so maybe more of an intermediate mech. I think the Osiris is a bit of an odd choice, sure it has a lot of firepower, but I don’t think it teaches a lot and its quite fragile because of it being large, and having bad hit boxes. Don’t get me wrong it is a very good mech, but I don’t think it’s the best choice for a new player. Also a quick note, you mention laser ams which is bad. AMS in general isn’t that strong right now unless you have the hardpoints and tonnage to easily boat about 3+, and laser ams is especially bad because it’s heavier and takes up more slots then normal AMS while also having terrible heat efficiency while active, combine that with the many other methods of countering missiles, like radar dep, ecm, or even just hard cover. AMS is pretty much dead rn unless you’re usin a Corsair with 4 ams or something. But I would also add the Hunchback IIC A, which is very good for laservomit. I would not recommend a IS hunchback over a bushwhacker for a new player for dakka, way more fragile, the hunch is a big easy target, and you can run non uac builds on the bushwhacker. The marauder is a good mech but I feel like MRMs won’t teach as much as something like laservomit or dakka. And and that makes me think that you are saying that all three are good. But then you started talking about medium lasers and srm6s, and you specified two srm 6s and four medium lasers. which makes it sound like you are talking about a build, and not which weapons are good and should go on a sniper. But then there is also the possibility you are trying to say that a build should have gauss or ppc or erlls cause they are all good, and then to put on backup weapons. but that wouldn't make sense cause you were talking about the difference between and vs or, and it is also weird to specify how many backup weapons are on it if that is what you are saying. You just wrote your comment really badly, its pretty easy to write a comment in a easy to understand and non confusing way. Idk why its so difficult to just write a easy to understand comment or to clarify if someone is confused instead of writing it poorly and then blaming them for not understanding your badly written comment.

    You are thinking of a sniper as just the standard sniper in most fps games, in mwo mechs that work like that provide very little impact on a game compared to other options. In MWO the role of a sniper is not to get sneaky kills without being seen but is actually to use range and lots of firepower to take over the map for their team by walling parts of the map off from other mechs making it so that the enemies cannot move positions without taking lots of damage, while simultaneously being able to trade with other snipers to stop the enemy team from taking over the map. This means that that having lots of firepower and armour is way more useful then stealth and speed, while ecm is very good, it is just as good for any mech and is not necessary for snipers. and you do not need stealth armour. All this means that the best snipers are actually assaults, since they have the most firepower, and armour, so that they can trade and control the map the best. And it is not a waste of tonnage at all for an assault to snipe, this misconception is way too common. For some examples of some actually good snipers if someone reading this is unsure of what to run, gauss erll or hag erll night gyr h, gauss erll or hag erll dire wolf, gauss erppc marauder 4l, light gauss erppc king crab kaiju, gauss erll or hag erll stone rhino 1 or 2, hag erll marauder IIC D, erll stalker 5s. There are other really good snipers these are just some of the best. and assaults and heavies aren’t the only good snipers but they usually are the best. The problems With the builds in the video. Thanatos doesn’t have nearly enough firepower with only 2 gauss, and the stealth armour is fairly useless, the stealth Thanatos is a meme build. if you wanna snipe with the Thanatos do either 2 gauss and 2 erll with ecm but no stealth armour, or 2 light gauss and 2 erppc with ecm and no stealth. The problem With the light gauss phoenix hawk is that it is way too heavy of a load out. If you wanna snipe with a phoenix hawk run the 7S with masc 2 erppcs and 5 small lasers. The lppc Phoenix hawk is a good build but it is not a sniper.

    I enjoyed this video. Great presentation, no excess talk, just a description with good gameplay examples. I had no clue about how the hardpoints and weapon systems worked when I first started playing, so my first mech that I bought for myself with C-Bills was a Spider-5K. All ballistics with one laser, and I wanted a laser build. Turned out to be a blessing and a curse, the curse being I had to rely largely on short range light ballistics (the Spider is a light mech, so it can't rock heavy cannons unless you like having no armor), but the blessing being it forced me to improve my accuracy and strategy. I still had enough tonnage to equip one medium laser, so that became my little "poker" that I would use to annoy enemy players. I spent my first month or so barely making 100 damage per game, but once I learned ballistics have the highest crit percentage against unarmored components, my game started to get better and I started to get kills. After that I could buy more mechs, and because I had gotten used to playing with such a gimped mech in the beginning, the other mechs felt like powerhouses. Point being, a video like this would have helped lighten the learning curve considerably. LOVE the Piranha series. Such an annoying little backstabber. My Piranha-1 has 3 heavy small lasers and 8 light machine guns, so that thing literally cuts down heavy mechs from behind. My recommendations for beginners would be these: Light Mech: Urbanmech series with a fast XL engine. (I know the Urbie makes people mad, but it's a damn durable light mech with 360° visibility and a fair amount of available tonnage). Medium Mech: Viper series. Speed, weapons AND flight. Heavy Mech: Timberwolf series. Armor, weapons, durability, and a little bit of speed.

    9:35 My NovaCat B has a skilled range of at least 1,035. No quircks for range so that's pretty decent. I have 2 of them and average well into 800 damage per match.

    Also thano is lacking in self defense and armor. I like the hunch II with 2 gauss and 2 er med lasers for a med mech, Heavy sniper either night gyre .
