History
The history of Dan Wesson firearms began in 1852 when Daniel B. Wesson’s great-grandfather, D. B. Wesson, co-founded Smith & Wesson. One-hundred years later, carrying on the family heritage of firearms innovation, Dan Wesson founded Wesson Firearms Co., Inc in 1968.
In 2005, CZ-USA acquired Dan Wesson Firearms and now manages it as part of the CZ corporate group.
Why did Dan Wesson release the ECO Line?
Smallest and Lightest 1911 on the market at the time.
The Dan Wesson Eco was designed to be the smallest and lightest 1911 possible without sacrificing accuracy, reliability, or stopping power. It weighs 25 ounces and is a single stack officer size gun.
Why did Dan Wesson discontinue the Eco?
Discontinued 2019.
There has never been a higher demand for self-defense handguns than there is today. The greatest demand is for the smallest, lightest gun available, but this has drawbacks. Generally, these guns are difficult to shoot well, lack stopping power and recoil can be a problem.
ECO, a true single stack officer size 1911
weighing in at only 25 oz.
Tritium night sights with their tactical ledge sight on the rear
lightweight 3.5” slide
ECO barrel is a flush cut ramped bull barrel with target crown
solid one piece guide rod w/ a flat recoil spring that is rated for 15,000 rounds
Recoil system also gives the benefit of a smooth slide for easier operation and less felt recoil
3.1 - 3.3 (3.1 higher percentage of the time) lbs trigger pull (12 pulls)
Custom G10 Grip panels in a black and white zebra pattern
Solid Trigger Shoe (Silver) Sketonized Hammer (Sliver) Matte SS
Nice DW HardCase
Two Single Stacked 7rd - Checkmate SS Magazines

I've got a couple Taurus model 65's one made in the late 70's and a newer production one, my newer one has recently developed a lot of cylinder play, the old one though is on par with any Smith Ruger or Colt wheel gun I own.

I got the BRN180 version with a 16” 350 legend upper for deer season and it’s been almost perfect. Fit and finish is excellent and it cycles extremely smoothly. With the stock upper and the short buttplate it came in just a little shy of 26”. Since I don’t want to deal with NFA paperwork for an SBR stamp, I have to run the extended butt plate for now, but even with the extended plate the length of pull is usable, and I’m not a big guy at 5’5” 140lbs with little tiny hands. I did purchase a flash hider that brings it just over 26” with the short butt plate, but I’ll have to have it pin and welded to be legal. I also noticed that while the a3 tactical hand guard does fit, it needed to be shortened by about 5/8” to line up correctly. (5 seconds at a chop saw) I love my build! It’s super fun to shoot at the range, but I bought it as a compact deer gun off my motorcycle, so I can’t wait for this fall!

Is shield arms the way to go? I thought the PSA dagger magazine was better since no changes are required. What are your thoughts comparing the 43x to the p365xl for those living in a state that only allows 10 rounds?

I have heard that as well. I would say it would go to route first before doing part swaps. I haven't had any issues with mine but I do understand that point of view.

They were made perfect. Then they were made cheaply because of the hiccup.Remington was going through. Now they're made perfect again. My newest wingmaster is very impressive.

I heard the Dakota Arms is actually making those for Remington Arms. I know they were doing all the custom work for Remington for years but since I haven't directly worked in the world not sure if that has changed.

the shortest barrel length used to be 4 5/8, which is what you measured. you "looked it up in the database" where they no doubt have there current lengths. 2 things changed about this revolver in 2017. the barrel was changed to 4.2 inches for easier conceal carry, and the cylinder was partially machined to accept moonclips so that it can fire 45acp, in addition to 45 colt. when you said "this was introduced way back in 1979", thats true of the redhawk, but it was initially only available chambered in 44 magnum. for disambiguation for viewers who may perceive that you said "the redhawk in 45 colt was introduced in 1979", no, not even close. it was after 1990 before the redhawk was available in any other chamberings (like 41 mag,45 colt, and 357)

Thanks GSB for sharing.. I got the 18 inch foxtrot and ran into the same problem. I don’t think that’s a fault on our end because I don’t remember the website saying anything about bolt lock need on the uppers they sell. The price you pay when your the first generation. I still plan on buying another one to build a sbr for a truck gun. Imagine a 556 or 300 blackout fn p90… 😂

Ive owned my SI RRS since 2016 or so and have put about 9,000 rds through it installed in my modded FN AR-15 16" 5.56 × 45 nato M4. The thing seems to work well but ive had issues. At about 4,500 rds i noticed the 2nd stage buffer components had seized inside my buffer tube. It seems the yellow polymer "bottoming cone" thingy had expanded from repeated impact and seized within the brass sleave and caused the failure. The rifle was still operating just fine as the main buffer component was unaffected. I contacted SI and promptly received a new polymer 2nd stage buffer assembly. All was well for another 4,500 rds or so but just recently i discovered the same issue had occurred. This time i chose to remove the buffer system and return to the standard buffer for a few reasons. First of all, while the RRS proved reliable and effective i found that it doesnt provide enough spring pressure as the BCG goes into battery. Often while manually cycling the action i would discover the carrier would bounce back and settle just out of battery. While the bolt was securely home, the carrier was held about 1/16" or 1 mm to the rear. It required just a slight bump on the forward assist or even a slap to the receiver to send it home but the spring pressure on the carrier in the in battery location and the initial stage of rearward travel was insufficient as it feels about half that of the stock buffer system. I never had a malfunction during firing but that was a bit disconcerting. Second, while the RRS operates very smoothly and quietly, and very well may have a softer feeling recoil impulse, i cant really say its an improvement. Recoil CAN NOT be reduced by a buffer system after all. The recoil impulse can be MODIFIED, by spreading it out over a longer or shorter duration in time but it cannot be reduced. Not by a buffer anyway. The RRS does feel different. It does make the rifle feel a bit less snappy but its hard to say if thats an advantage. And after the two malfunctions and the issue with the spring rate in the initial phase of recoil, i just think id prefer the original standard FN buffer. Both my FNs have the smoothest and quietest stock actions ive ever felt anyway. Theyre practically silent and buttery smooth. So that wasnt a need either. I will say as far as the malfunctions go, that i believe it to be caused by the use of relatively soft nylon or polymer of some type. I guess it could be considered a "normal wear component" and due for replacement every 3,000 to 5,000 rounds. Or perhaps a redesign is needed. Perhaps change the compound to a stiffer material or use aluminum instead. Im sure SI would replace my 2nd stage again if i chose to contact them and i may do just that in the near future. But for now im parking the RRS and rocking the tried and true Eugene Stoner original. Would i recommend the RRS? Not for duty and definitely not for combat. But for recreation/target shooting and or competition, sure. I think theres enough there to have value and it just may offer enough advantage to warrant the price of admission, which btw is quite reasonable. I think i paid $125 or so for mine. It was definitely less than $150. Anyway....thats my 2 cents.

Another little known ugly! I'd ADVISE EVERYONE TO CHECK THERE CM/PM 9's (and probably any other kahr). I purchased my CM9 for the exact reason of...... The G43 did not yet exsist, and I wanted his size back-up weapon. I did my break in and love this micro 9. The department I served did not approve it though, because Karh will not certify outsiders to be armorers, so we had none in house, hence not approved for that reason. Again, love this little 9 and it functioned great......UNTIL it didn't ! THIS IS A WIERD KNOWN PROBLEM (but not well advertised) I FOUND OUT ~AFTER~ IT HAPPENED AND I RESEARCHED IT. No recalls for this either that I could find. Sorry for for the -all caps- but this is important. T H E I S S U E :::: It is a cold weather problem. I accidentally discovered it after years of owning it, brining my CM9 in from my car on a cold winter night. It was below freezing. Prior to stowing the weapon I dropped the mag, racked the chambered round out, pointed it at the ground and pulled the trigger....... NOTHING ! No click of the mechanisms or firing pin !!! A dead trigger ! I kept racking and pulling the trigger and nothing ! I was still outside in the cold. It really freaked me out of the ramifications of that. I brought the gun in the house and made some dinner, contemplaiting the situation. Some time had passed and I again racked the slide, but this time it functioned as normal. What the heck !? To keep it short & to the point; I had discovered the malfunction only happened when the pistol was super cold, at or below 32 degerees. I could easily replicate the problem by putting it in my freezer for 30-40 minutes, retrieving it and dry functioning the gun (which would NOT function) WOW! What the heck is that about I thought. I tried that with a few other pistols, and a G43 that I had eventually aquired and ZERO issues with any others. I went on-line and researched this and found others who discovered this same problem! Since I was the original owner and Kahr has a great lifetime service for us, I contacted Kahr and sent it in with the above story/issue attached. They never denied it was "a thing" for some pistols, and they serviced and fixed the problem. I never got an explanation to what the issue was when it got cold. And of course when I got it back it went right to the freezer to vet it for cold operation without any problems. So if you have one of these....... DO A FREEZER TEST ON YOUR KAHR ! BE Safe All !

    • @GunsmithBeard
      @GunsmithBeard 19 днів тому

Spend the money on Surefire Mini Scout Pro Turbo duel fuel in FDE. I’m very particular about what goes on my rifles but I also don’t have unlimited financial resources to spend. That being said, for the build you’re showing in this video it NEEDS the Surefire for reliability and aesthetics. A Vtac sling would finalize. Nice rifle brother. I would also switch to the B5 Systems Enhanced SOPMOD. JMHO🇺🇸

I will say it has gotten a lot better that’s partially because ATF is absolutely losing their butt in court in Texas. The waiting periods have been cut into fraction of what they were for NFA items. Which if you’re going to do it it’s a great time to do it. But I completely understand. I would say if you’re thinking about doing it I would 100% recommend going the trust route. And make sure you use SilencerShop. It makes the whole process a whole lot easier.

I have the cousin of these kahrs, the naa guardian 380 (frames were made by kahr at one time). These 2 companies built semi autos that may require “break in”, I’ve found that breaking them down and polishing less vital contact areas (not sear but everything else). I’ve had them run flawlessly at the first mag now with this rework. It doesn’t bother me because at their price they come as is. If these tighter tol pistols were fully polished they would be cost prohibitive for many, including myself.

I'm sorry if I missed it in the video, but is that an SCT frame you have in there? Is that the regular Glock version 20/20 or the P80 model?

P80 version of my memory is correct because of the 1913 light/accessory rail.

Hello, you have done a good job your weapon is very pretty, I myself have a CZ 550 in 22-250 and I would like to mount a new barrel with a shorter twit, how is the barrel fixed on the case with what dimension of no screws, thank you for your answer, best regards JP

    • @GunsmithBeard
      @GunsmithBeard Місяць тому

The barrel is torqued onto the action. In order to remove the barrel you need a few specialized tools (Action wrench, barrel bushing vice, head spacing gauges (go and no-go gauges)). You can order a barrel that is "short chambered" which would need to be properly head-spaced but very easy to do. You would need the headspace gauge and the finishing reamer in the caliber to rebarrel that action yourself.
