    Way to oversell the frame gen, again its the worse simplier implementarion, nvidia one is better since it relays on pixel vectors to predict the frame. Haven seen comparisons with FSR but even amd one keepa improving. Loseless frame gen looks like reprojection on VR.

  • @freedomdst
    @freedomdst 21 годину тому

    Isnt it the worse version of all upscaler and frame gen? Only useful for games that dont supoort those functions (and if you really need them) and that dont have a mod to add official ones

    • @jagadhie
      @jagadhie 19 годин тому

      @@freedomdst If we're talking about official n native implementation of upscaler n framegen, for sure yes, Lossless Scaling can't compete with for example native implementation of DLSS or FSR 3.0, n also AMD or Nvidia native framegen solution. I never said it could either in the video. All it is, is a tool that can implement both of those function (upscaling and framegen) universally. And at the very least in my own opinion, some of the software offering such as LS1 Upscaling are very good and it can compete with the likes of FSR (the old version such as 1.0 / 2.0) or Nvidia old universal scaling NIS. And yes, Indeed, the use case are ideally on game where either function are not natively supported. Or if you're trying to cut down on gpu and cpu usage in order to keep your device temperature low, usually for laptop user (which I am) or portable pc user such as ROG Ally or Steamdeck. For example these days I mainly use lossless on Dirt Rally 2.0 and Borderlands 3, the software works wonderfully on those. The purpose of Lossless Scaling are not to compete with native implementation of upscalers or framegens from tech-giant such as AMD or NVIDIA, it is to give consumer more option to increase their performance in games where before there wasn't any to begin with.

    • @freedomdst
      @freedomdst 18 годин тому

      you kind of missed explaining that then, since the video looks like its hyping he software and not clarifying on what point it stands. The video was good and detailed, but people can ask themselves later "ok, but when do i use it then". If it was said i apologize, i stopped at frame gen +upscaling since it was a long video

    • @jagadhie
      @jagadhie 18 годин тому

      @@freedomdst No need to apologize, It was a long video and I may have perhaps missed that exact explanation. When I made the video the point that I wanted to make was just "Here, there's a software that can do upscaling or framegen universally, and here's how to use it". I don't feel the need to say "hey this program are worse than this or that and better than this or that" as that is never the main purpose of this video to begin with. Just like you, you can be the judge of that yourself, right? whether people think that the software is the worse implementation of DLSS or FSR n such that's for them to decide and test by themselves. This video main purpose is a demonstration of the software, its function, and how to use those function. My narrative may sound like I'm "hyping" the software but that is never the intention, hence why I even included my own experience of failing to use it on videos (that's past the lossless+frame gen part so you probably haven't watched it). As the software can be applied universally to any game (atleast so far from my own experience, even emulators), then it is up to each individual on "when" they want to use the software. Sure there is an "Ideal" situation on when you might want to use lossless, but I don't feel the need to point that out when I was making this video. Cheers!

    it feels like using LS on movies is counterproductive, because it goes from like 24fps which looks normal, into an ultra smooth digital video fps which looks cheap in comparison. It's the opposite for video games, where you don't want a movie look and the higher fps, the better

      @jagadhie 2 дні тому

      It was an editing mistake on my part, I cut the screen in that part while DLSS was still picked in the option menu. But no worries, you can check on the benchmark result that the native one had DLSS disabled as anti aliasing are set to "TAA", which is NOT possible if it was still using DLSS as the anti aliasing would show "DLAA" instead.

    Another thing that may be of your interest regarding that issue that you had with _Need for Speed Heat:_ I had that with NFS reboot (2016), and my solution is using _Borderless Gaming._ I decided to use it because some games just refused to render the game at the full native 2560×1600 resolution of my laptop in windowed mode, slightly cropping the vertical resolution instead. With that software, you get *all* the pixels more easily.

    Might be some dumb questions.: 1. Are those the same with some games who supports Upscales like FSR 3.0, DLSS? (I know Lossless Scaling has diff type like LS1) 2. If I'm using Lossless Scaling, should I disable those settings in game? Or enable them both? Thank you for the video!

    • @jagadhie
      @jagadhie 17 днів тому

      I'm sorry for the late respond, If a game already have built-in support like FSR 3.0 or DLSS, then it's better to use those as it'll almost always perform better than any scaling type available in Lossless Scaling, don't use them with LS. And also no, it's not really the same. For example DLSS are trained by Nvidia's supercomputer so that it will perform better and greater than any LS scaling option.

    I would like to ask, since u are playing with ur dedicated gpu, why would you pick dedicated the one that also does the lossless scaling work? decent integrated gpus like iris xe can run gta at 40-50fps with 1080p resolution, thats more than enough power for lossless to do its work, this way u can give the dedicated gpu all the power without needing to cap the fps, obviously if u are getting like 150 or 200fps or smth the integrated gpu will struggle but if u r running at lets say 40-60fps on eg cyberpunk u can use the integrated gpu without needing to lock ur fps to like 20fps below ur current fps. Using the integrated gpu for losssless is also a great excuse to crank up the graphics on ur game if ur dgpu is giving a lot of frames already.

    For me this program makes sense if you put it on the integrated video card instead of the discrete one, since all this scaling is a fairly resource-intensive process that additionally loads the discrete video card, which could spend these resources on the game, fortunately this can be done in the lossless scaling program itself. In my case, after this procedure, the scaling result is the same as using a discrete video card, but since the integrated video card is now doing the scaling, the load on the discrete video card has dropped almost 2 times (I have an RTX 3060 Laptop GPU 80w, and an integrated video card Ryzen 5800HS)

  • @denizkendirci
    @denizkendirci 27 днів тому

    Just because the program doesn't restrict which gpu models you can use to generate frames, does not actually mean that your gpu will be able to generate those frames as quick as it should and result in smooth video. I have three laptops right now, one with rtx4090, one with gtx 860m and one with gtx 330m. Gtx cards failed to make a frame gen which can be usable. Even frame gen for youtube videos are unwatchable with gtx 860m.

      @@ZER677 Lossless scaling works best on mid-end hardware that's already capable of running the game that's getting FG'ed in 30 FPS. The Frame Generation requires headroom in your GPU VRAM, if you're running the game in 15 FPS already, that's a pretty good sign that there isn't much headroom in your system to do the frame generation. For guidelines, you should use FG when you're atleast getting a base framerate of 30, so 30 x 2. and if you wanted to use x 4 then 60fps is the good base frame rate for it. Unfortunately it isn't the magic tools that can save individuals that is getting very low framerate to an acceptable one, it's purpose are more towards making an acceptable framerate into an enjoyable one. Try using it on games in your system where you're already getting 30 fps at the very least.

      Use integer scaling since it's the light weight scaler. Also check on your monitor refresh rate. See if a certain resolution can get you a higher refresh rate. Example, if your monitor supports 120hz and your games can barely get 30fps. You can play in 120fps because the monitor refresh rate is doing all the work. Do a little research on how integer scaling works because you can use it in many different ways. Here's a couple examples. If your game is 640x360 in windowed mode but your windows display is set on 3840x2160. 360p will scale up all the way to 4k without any GPU or CPU power. 360p can also scale up to 1080p display. Integer scaling works a little different in lossless scaling so always leave it on scale factor 1 and remove "Fullscreen" in the settings. This is the correct way to use integer. You're not supposed to manually scale integer. It works based on your display of choice. 720p windowed mode cannot upscale to 1080p but it can scale up to 4k.

    This video is very helpful for someone who just bought LS without knowing how to use it, thank you

    If you guys have a Nvidia card, you can just cap your games' framerate using the Nvidia control panel. You don't need Rivatuner. Capping the game's fps via in-game menu also works well.

      Yes absolutely. Just go in the Nvidia Control Panel and then find "Manage 3D Settings" in the left menu and you'll have "Max Frame Rate" somewhere which applies globally to all applications. Alternatively, there's a tab to switch to "Program Settings" Where you can set it individually for each game/program.

      Yeah, I did exactly that; it's an easy way to save battery and (hopefully) extend the hardware longevity by not forcing the GPU to bleed all the time.

    30fps x4 can actually work well depending on the game. I locked Need for Speed Heat to 30fps and used x4 framegen. I can play at a consistent 120fps. I don't notice any visual artifacts either. If they are there, I guess they're pretty minimal.

      I did exactly that for _Transformers: War for Cybertron_ (the game is capped at 30 FPS 💀); it is an absolute blessing. I did just that with NFS '16, but from 60 to 240. It requires me to use the _performance_ version of the FG algorithm, but *DAMN* doesn't it do wonders to the game.

    This app is a godsend. Playing 1440p on a 4k tv and trying to go to fullscreen tanks my frame rate. Scaling keeps it stable
