Only point I have here is a technicality. Kanto is based off a region in Japan. Team Rocket is the Yakuza, not Italian Mafia.

Some notes: - Giovanny himself didn't want anything to do with you joining the ranks, but even during the Kanto storyline, Nugget Bridge is there showing that they recruit younger trainers, they even try to recruit you. Could be something they're doing behind Giovannis's back. - Petrel's tone in other languages is more condescending than a soft spot. He gives you the key not because he's impressed, he's just cocky by nature and is certain you won't even make it to the real director (basically, he's in denial) - This is something you didn't mention, but they have NO POWER to pull from, they hid the director nor even in the ninja base, they just tossed him in a basement of the Goldenrod Department Store, with almost no grunts to guard their scapegoat. Petrel, if succeding, was planning to blame the radio director as allowing Team Rocket to take over the tower. But we end up stopping the plans. - Also on this point, there's regular, and I would debate more dangerous, actual burglars (Scavengers in the japanese version), along with the rocket grunts with no affiliation. Team Rocket is so on the low that they're using the dumps basically to do their glory plan. Quite sad. - The poor illiterate grunt in Kanto doesn't even know the plan failed. Nobody told him. This speaks volumes of the lack of structure Archer put on the team. The man reappears in Unova, having married and turned his life around. - Celebi's event is canon, although convoluted. This event actually causes mystery on Giovanni's general status. The place where you fight him is inaccesible on the early game, outside of the event, and he just... dissapears, heavily implied to have jumped from a waterfall (none of his Pokemon can learn Waterfall). He appears in Unova again in PWT but for some time people thought he geniunely offed himself, a bit out of character for him but I can see him having PTSD from Red foiling his plans and now Gold also did it. - Silver doesn't want to be affiliated with Team Rocket by choice, you overanalized that, though a cool concept. Silver is just bitter and resentful to see his father leave just because a 10 year old foiled his plans and acting like a crybaby while he still had a powerful organization at his power. I side with Silver on this one, the man was all bark and no bite, hence he hates Team Rocket, they act brave when they're in group but are cowards when faced alone, which is basically what his father did. - Giovanni acting all omnimous trying to defeat you in Tohjo Falls reinforces this point. He waited until his grunts did everything for him so he could only return and take his throne made for him. Basically is showing the man lost his edge, and is a shadow of his former self, that grew from a fantastic trainer to a mafia boss from shady dealings and scaring people. Wether he comes back because he just didn't want to or you didn't allow him is not important, what's important is to show his pathetic side by waiting his grunts do all the work for him while he "retires to think of a more evil plan", all excuses (Silver was right) - Archer is never mentioned because nobody believes in him, not even the other executives. Archer's goal to reunite Team Rocket is not for the sake of the team, is for HIS own devotion to Giovanni. He didn't care about the team at all, only about his obsession with his former boss. Is like a cult mentality. Many grunts were probably hired while under Archer's orders and even they don't know who he is. This could explain the poor rocket grunt that wasn't informed in Kanto. They tried to have presence in Kanto but Archer was so obsessed to reunite with Giovanni he didn't plan things correctly. - On the last point, Ariana does know this. In the japanese version she doesn't say you could be a great executive, but rather a commander, like a second boss. She's so desperate for guidance she's willing to put YOU as the new Giovanni. Basically the story of Team Rocket in Johto is a tragic story of a man with no vision past his defeat and how he left his team like a coward. Giovanni's even lucky that they tried to contact him, even if it was only Archer's wish. A true head would probably have taken over and be a major menace. Sad story but a good one hidden between lines of dialogue.

15:32 yup as much as i was swayed by the cool aesthetic of Team Rockets “unity” i was too easy to overlook their actions, their nasty reputation and i wanted to join. Associating with them was just disaster waiting to happen.

this truly reinforces just what a pivotal role Giovanni had -- that once he was gone, everything fell apart so fast. There really wasn't anyone that could fill the power vacuum he left behind! Can't wait to see Magma and Aqua (Hoenn is my favorite region)

Regarding the "same 2 grunts in hideout healing their pokemon" is not true in gold silver and crystal and there is nothing that suggests that. If your gonna do a review on them take into consideration older games as well and not only hg/ss

With the fossils, I moreso got the vibe that the science guy found both of them first and the grunt was gonna take both of them by force but the guy lets you have one for chasing the grunt off; the implied crime being assault.

Giovanni doesnt knock or compliment his members. He hardly even acknowledges them likely due to the vast numbers. So yeah a lot of them are incompetent because I think Giovanni was focused on having a large amount of members encasing the region. They may be dumb, but theyre still numerous, and a wave of dumb idiots can take over a country if theres enough of them. It adds to their power I think, that even though theyre so weak and unintelligent, the sheer number of them IS the power they have.

The Team Rocket in Pokemon Fire Red: Team Rocket Edition (rom hack) is the cannon one for me.
