Knocked the dust off the old longbow. These type bows have a flat handle and require a flat palm, low wrist grip. This brings the arm closer in line to the bow string path and along with the lower brace height longbows have, can increase the chance of the string striking your bow arm upon release. The pluses of a long bow is that there is no string stacking, more forgiving on less than stellar ...

      @Kurtdog63 14 днів тому

      You will need to get Uni bushings and put a nocturnal knock in that. I think it is the S size knock that fits it, but I would double check that there are two different sizes of Uni bushings one goes in a 1916 and it uses a smaller nock, but the larger uni-bushing goes in Larger diameter shafts, and it takes the S size I’m pretty sure.

    I bought a Blackcat a few months ago and have really liked it up till the past few weeks. I’m getting a random 2in left and maybe 1in high from time to time. Might shoot three arrows perfect then I get the wild flyer. I can shoot the same arrow and get different results each time. I have tried a different arrow from my quiver and same thing. I have my cocking rope marked to make sure it’s cocked straight and I’ve checked every bolt to make sure it’s tight. It’s driving me up the wall 😂 I seen you do a lot of tinkering with these recurve crossbows and was wondering if you had any ideas I could try.

    • @Kurtdog63
      @Kurtdog63 16 днів тому

      My experience is that the Blackcat arrow tray may not let an arrow lay flat consistently. My arrow tray/stock is the old Recruit stock with a Blackcat 165 lbs bow on it. I put a 2nd set of toothbrush bristles on it with a small hose clamp and trimmed the bristles down a little. Mainly did it to keep heavy arrow setups from flopping around, but, it may help with your arrow laying flat more consistently. I shoot aluminum arrows with tradition fixed blade type broadheads. Carbon arrows fly weird with fixed blade heads. Shooting heavier points can help with more consistent flight as well. In addition, the Barnett aluminum arrows are straight fletch. They shoot small 3 blades ok, but if you use a lighted nock, accuracy goes south. I had to put helical feathers on them to get accuracy back.

    • @Kurtdog63
      @Kurtdog63 Місяць тому

      My experience, carbon arrows do not shoot fixed heads accurately. You can sight in for one carbon arrow and a fixed blade, but the other arrows may not group. I shoot aluminum with helical fletch plastic or vanes. They fly much more consistent with small fixed broadhead. If you go heavy with a broadhead, I would recommend a two blade 200 grains. You can buy Zwickey Eskimo without the aluminum adapter and buy 75 grain steel adapter and hot glue it in. Academy has 2219 twenty inch xx75s for about 40 bucks for six. total arrow weight will be about 580 grains.

    • @Kurtdog63
      @Kurtdog63 Місяць тому

      I am practicing aiming at an imaginary shooting lane that an animal will be approaching, before the animal can see me, so I can draw undetected. Obviously a straw bail doesn't move, so I have to swing to the "ribs". If I wait for the animal to be in the shooting lane, they can see me draw and also get by me before I can aim, if it is a narrow shooting lane. This is especially critical if you bow hunt from the ground. It is definitely a remedy for target panic as I used to be a snap shooter. Fred Bear was once asked if he recommended his style of shooting and he said "No". He spent three years trying to overcome target panic and came up with a shooting method where he would draw the bow pointing the arrow above the animal and come down with the arrow as he came to anchor and let it go the instant it touched his face. I call my method an "Approach Draw" where I am holding dead still as the animal approaches my point of aim. If it stops and is shootable, I can swing to make the shot because I have practiced it.

    • @Kurtdog63

      Most crossbow arrows are carbon and will only shoot mechanical broadheads accurately. I am not a fan. The Barnett crossbow aluminum arrows will shoot the 100 muzzy accurately, but the arrow is pretty light and if you put a lighted knock on it, it may not fly worth a dime. I have a lot of videos posted showing different arrow set ups, but they all involve aluminum arrows. I don’t shoot carbons out of compounds or recurves either.

      @@Minnesotawhitetails I shoot several broadheads that are long and I don't want them to stick out past the stirrup. Also, the Simmons Broadhead actually extends back on the shaft below the insert, so 18 can be almost too short. Also, an 18 can easily disappear inside of a straw bale, especially at an angle. If you shoot short broadheads, 20 inch works fine.

    Very cool slow-mo. Thanks. I have made arrows from a board cutting it up into 7/16x7/16 blanks and hand planing them down and barrel tapering them to 5/16 nocks and just under 7/16ths at about 8'' from the tip and down to 11/32 tips. Tipped them with 135gr point. They were not straight, even after heat straigtening. They were straight enough though, because i could shoot all 1 dozen i made into a 4 inch circle at 25 yards every time. Accuracy is a culmination of factors, drag from the fletching, weight forward, spined for paradox, etc... but when you use more weight forward you can get away with less fletching and you'll get more down range speed and momentum. Anyway, i have just found that straigtness and perfect flight has much less to do with accuracy than proper spine, and high front of center weight distribution and adequate fletching. Even with improperly spined arrows, enough weight forward and enough fletching can straighten that arrow's flight enough to hit with precision. But then we get into what happens at terminal impact on an animal with a wobbly arrow verses a more straight shooting arrow if you're hunting, but that's another topic.

    Nice shooting, and I love those knocs! I have a Bear Kodiak Hunter at 60 lbs pull that I have kept around for about 50 years. They are a handul to shoot at heavier weights, but are hnady to carry. I used mine as a 'scout bow' after I went to compound set ups. What people don't know is that a good natural arrow cast exists for a shot at about 60 yards. I learned this while piling up shots at 15-20 yards with just natural sighting, then found the right vertical gap by experimenting, and that 60 yard just came natural with my set up. I took a nice Whitetail buck at 60 yards some years later as I knew the exact range to a trail point from where I was walking. A heavier arrow weight is no doubt better when using manual bows.

    Howdy Kurt, Got my Ruger carbine last month here for more or less reasons why i bought it. 1.i have many weapons in my cabinet ( I hunt Big Game ie.Buffalo,Elk and Mule Deer. 2.wanted a cheaper way to knock out coyotes,and hogs and for my wife 3. Seen many a UA-cam videos and seen these kids that dont shoot like me meaning i want as much accuracy as i can master with this 9mm caliber. Very limited to say But i know i can shoot various loads,that are out here 3 your video shows,that its capable at 100 yds . 4. Of course two things here,one being a good trigger,two bullet for my intented varmint. 3rd the optic i have bought a scope for this weapon i think would do the job quite,well.Dont need,a huge honking glass for the carbine lol. Its a,day and night scope .i have orded several other things for it and not put it on pending on the other,stuff keep in mind its things that,will enhance performance and better reliability nothing more or less Thanks again for your video and once im ready to reveal youd ve the first to see ONE SHOT ONE KILL

    Just wrap your metal piping blowguns in camo or Gorilla tape, and they won't freeze your hands. The cold effects the dart flight to. Something to play around with.

    How many pumps relatively will be needed to get to the right amount of pressure.

    • @Kurtdog63
      @Kurtdog63 2 місяці тому

      I haven't shot it till empty but if I remember, takes about 50-60 pumps to get it to the bottom of the green on the pressure gauge, then about 50 more to get it way up in the green. I eventually plan to buy other pcp's and get an electric pump.

      Good showing and lots of bidders. Bobcat, Beaver, and otter did pretty well. Even though coons/coyotes didn't bring much, glad people are managing the predator numbers. I think coons/possums/skunks part of the reason turkey numbers are down in some areas. Other states have numbers down for turkeys as well.

    Is the Blackcat or Wildcat a good first crossbow for plinking, SHTF and maybe a medium doe at 25-35 yards?

      Excellent and simple design. I put a second set of bristles on to keep the arrow snug to the arrow tray. You can monitor Ebay for best price. I posted several videos on this style of crossbow. I shoot aluminum arrows because they are the most accurate with fixed blade heads. Good luck!

      @@Kurtdog63 Thanks for the reply! I think I'll pick one up when they go on sale. I'll take a look through your videos. I need something light and simple an have settled on a recurve but was astonished at some of the prices of the higher performance recurves (Excalibur at 305 fps). Thanks again.

      @@kellydavis4330 Those high end Excalibur crossbows are impossible to cock without a crank. The Barnett is much easier to cock with just a rope cocker. Deer have amazing ability to drop at the sound of the crossbow, so aim low and expect them to drop 4 to 6 inches at 20 yards and beyond.

      Reasonable price and good accuracy with the right pellet. Many air rifles are pellet picky, so hard to judge accuracy until one experiments with multiple pellet weights. 25-30 yards is a good hunting distance for squirrels and could go to 50 yards on coon size animals. Whatever air rifle you buy, clean the barrel with non-petroleum type cleaner like Ballistol so you don't mess up the O rings. Cleaning the barrel greatly improves accuracy also.
