    What is with the $hitty design of all of these portable diesel heaters with the intake and exhaust being on the bottom? Every install I've seen required them to be mounted on blocks. Why not route them out the back??? This is an absolute design failure!

    That's a great heater. I've been running mine for awhile. Running on low will build up, and foul the burn chamber. Make sure and run it on high at least 10 mins each day of use. It burns the carbon off removing the fouling and greatly reduces the chance of having to open and clean the chamber. Never unplug it or shut off quickly. It will melt the mother board if you do not let it cool down.

    bruh...you need to circulate your fireplace heat. get the air circulating in there, turn it into a convection oven. Just get a fan, which will blow cold air towards the fireplace, as it hits the fireplace, it is warmed,, and moves around the shop. You have one big hotspot around that fireplace. The air by the fireplace is too hot, and the air at the far end of your shop, is too cold....so.....combine the two airs with a fan.

    After Trump's 25% tariffs kick in, those cheap Chinese diesel heaters, along with everything else we get from China (read: "Just about everything you buy off Amazon and any place else"), will be far more expensive headaches to have to constantly "tweak" to remain usable.

    Ive read to help the ticking to wrap the fuel pump with a sock of some kind to help absorb the "tick". on some of these units the pump is up against the housing which could cause the tick to resonate louder.

    • @senselessfun

      I guess what bothers me is that they advertise them as "no ticking" on Amazon and the video review I watched of a guy who does a lot of videos on diesel heaters kept hopping on the no ticking. But he is given units by the mfg and likely just shills what they want people to hear. We pay for our stuff and want them to be what they are advertised at.

    All drill bits can break when used in hand drills as we humans don't hold them perfectly vertically. Paddle bits have their place but 1.5" is bigger than I'd buy or use as IMO you're in hole saw and auger bit territory.

    This unit is very similar to a Vevor unit I purchased a month ago (November 2024). Your ticking is the same volume level as mine and speeds up or slows down according to the temp set point. I purchased a carbon monoxide tester and it maintains a 0 on the read out. I'm heating a 10 x 16 enclosed insulated porch off the back of my house. My unit will trip on an over heating situation and give a error code on the display on high at around 65 degrees. My unit has three temp ranges: Low (1-3) - three green colored icons. Medium (4-7) - four amber colored icons. High (8-10) - three red colored icons. It trips on all three reds (8-10) and two of the last two green (6-7) icons at around the 65 degree temps. I just have to keep an eye on it and turn it down to around 5 when it gets to around 63 degrees. I'm very happy with the heater. Nice video.

    • @senselessfun
      @senselessfun День тому

      You are the second person to mention the Vevor units and are happy with them. Thanks for the comparison info. I have a 15amp fuse for mine. Is yours connected to a 10amp fuse setup? I wonder if that is why it is tripping at high levels.

    • @readtheinstructions1407
      @readtheinstructions1407 День тому

      @@senselessfun Yes, it did come with a fuse, and I believe it is a 15 amp, but the over heating is, I believe, to be internal. I plan on calling Vevor to ask them what the overheating could be. It will get my porch up to 80 degrees on setting 5, but will overheat at 6 or above. Can't wait to hear what the problem could be.

    I have been installing HVAC since 1986 and here is some info and tips- I have installed many of these, all different sizes and configurations. There are plenty of great videos about problems and solutions with diesel heaters, take some time and do the research. I myself prefer the Vevor brand for many reasons, they have their own website with many other great products and have good customer service. First thing I notice about your install is the exhaust goes up when it should not, it should always be heading down, away from the unit for condensation reasons. I myself prefer the separated components version of these as it allows for far more installation choices and makes it easier to service and comes with a larger fuel tank. Be sure to buy a spare glow plug and tool and keep it handy in case it is needed because it most likely will be needed at some point. For those who are mechanically able - I pressure test all my diesel heaters before installing them with a dewalt vaccum/blower (not a leaf blower) or similar to check for possible leaks by pressurizing the combustion chamber similar to pressurizing a 2 stroke engine when doing a leak test. Block or plug the exhaust port and blow into the intake port. Use soapy water around every gasket and seal on the unit. You'd be surprised! Every one of these I have bought, brand new, has leaks, everywhere! I disassemble and reassemble using high temp rtv on both sides of gaskets and around all rubber fittings and tubes, let it set up overnight and re-test by pressurizing with low pressure, gently. The only place that cannot be sealed is the fan motor shaft near the bearings but is in a negative pressure zone and shouldn't be much of a concern. I am extremely, overly sensitive to gases, vapors and smells of any kind and they make me sick. Even though a CO detector can show a zero reading, the exhaust is still bad for you if it enters the living area. I also vent the breather hole on the fuel cap to the outside (if unit is mounted indoors) with a piece of tubing and a barbed fitting screwed into the cap as I found that it puffs fumes at the same rate as the ump pulsates. I guarantee all of these have leaks, even when new out of the box and the leaking fumes can be then brought inside with the heated air. Safety first. :)

    • @senselessfun
      @senselessfun День тому

      Thank you for that detailed information!!! That is really helpful. I will to make changes to the 2 installs I did on the exhaust setup to fix any possible condensation issues. I appreciate you pointing that out.

    • @thewisecracker-rq1pu
      @thewisecracker-rq1pu День тому

      @@senselessfun Sure no problem. One other thing I will point out is that I have found if the unit is vented to an area outside the building where the air/wind does not move around and is stagnant, near a door or window, there is a greater chance of the exhaust entering the building through cracks around the door/window seals especially if the heater's combustion air intake is not located outside as it can create a negative pressure in the building, searching for air for combustion. A thermal camera is great for finding air infiltration into the building. Any other appliance or wood stove that vents to the outside will add to this issue as all air that leaves the building must be replaced with air somehow, someway, and will naturally find a way to make this happen. I also highly recommend to anyone with a wood stove to always install the fresh air kit for it so it will draw combustion air via there, rather than back drafting other appliances, bath fans, kitchen hoods, door/window seals, etc.

    Well, I started out like you, working on the ground. It became unbearable so I made some heavy duty sawhorses so that my working height would be about waist high. I do have a small compact tractor with front end loader to lift with. You may not have any lifting equipment but if you continue, you will need it. Maybe some sort of chainfall system ? Maybe a 12 volt winch on your 4 wheeler or pickup rigged with pulleys and mast poles or something ? The Granberg Quick Change height adjustment brackets are well worth it. Your processed wood stack is gonna need a roof over and weight on top to prevent cupping. The wider they are the more they will cup. It's a sad day when you walk out to your wood stack and see all your hard work ruined by Mother Nature. I've been using the Forester 10 degree ripping chain with good results. I assume that you were using a 10 degree ripping before ? And you saw an improvement after using the Granberg scoring/ chip removing chain (half top plate) ? If so ,I think I will try 1. What type of 1st cut set-up have you been using ? I 1st made some wooden ladders out of 2x4 for 1st cut. Didn't last long as wood will warp and loose it's straightness. I then got some 1 3/4" automotive exhaust pipe in 10' lengths, made couplings to join 10' lengths together for extended length , made end plates for the end of the log (1/4" steel plate 6"x12". Semi-circle in the top of plate for 1 3/4" pipe to rest) I looked at round steel pipe , too flimsy and heavy in my opinion when long length is needed. Looked at metal electrical conduit , again , too flimsy. Exhaust pipe seemed to be more stout & lighter weight. I've been doing creosote telephone poles up to 20' length. Also had to invest in the Oregon 520-120 grinder. I have found that a reground chain often cuts better than a factory grind.

    • @senselessfun
      @senselessfun 13 днів тому

      Sounds like you have a good system worked out. Working on the ground was not fun. I will need to work on that if I continue to do this. My first cut setup is the small granberg mill and the ms310 saw using a granberg style rail system. I don't care for it at all. It is too flimsy and the adjustment screws back out with vibration on their own. Your exhaust pipe setup sounds good. I have a lot of new pipe lengths in my garage I may try that. I did get a less expensive grinder to sharpen chains than the Oregon. It works well and I have all the chains at 10 degrees. That is also how the granberg chains come. Thanks for the info on your setup and advice. And I have that pile covered with a tarp and also have put the first and last cut leftovers from the logs stacked on top of the pile for weight on the pile. I was hoping that would keep the boards in better condition.

    • @cliffhaskett7703
      @cliffhaskett7703 13 днів тому

      @senselessfun Your tag line of "senselessfun " is spot on for chainsaw milling. It makes no sense at all unless you just want to prove to yourself that you can do it. But it is fun when you see your results. When I started out,I just sliced off of the top after the 1st cut. It then occurred to me that,after the 1st cut, I could set my depth post as deep as the diameter of the log and remove the bottom flitch. Now I have a 2 side cant. It would be almost impossible to do on the ground, but works well up on sawhorses. Just put your shims between bottom of the log and bottom flitch . Of course that thickness is limited to 12-13" ,or 24" with the extended depth post. I have found a way to get a 90 degree, 2 side flat cant by rotating the log 90 degree (1st cut in the plumb position). Screw some blocks of wood into the sawhorses to hold the log in that position. Set your rails on top of the log and use a framing square to square the rails with the 1st cut flat side , which is now vertical/ plumb. If the log is less than 12" (Appropriate width of your rail system), you may have to block out your flat side with 2"x4" so that your framing square has a flat reference point.

And I do what I think is fun no matter how ridiculous...and this chainsaw milling turned out to be fun. I will likely get a small tractor and setup sawhorse setup like yours. So I really appreciate your tips and advice. I also have an attachment that goes on your saw that uses a 2x4, 2x6 etc to square off logs on sides or make dimensional lumber. I haven't tried it yet. Have you used one of those before?

      @@senselessfun Yes, I have used the Timber Tuff style jig before. Clamp to your bar and slide down a 2x4. That's what I really started out with. Homemade, I made one. Did not like it at all. And it can yield relatively good results with enough patience and a steady hand. But my cuts were terrible. The revelation I had with the Timber Tuff style was that the bar needs to be clamped on both ends to keep the tip of the bar from wandering. Even though your 20" Granberg Small Log mill only clamps on the power head end , I feel like one would have better control of the tip end as you would be working on a horizontal plane with a wider support base as opposed to sliding down a 2x4 vertically. 1 thing I forgot to mention. After 1st cut set-up of the rails and end plates , I have started lowering my depth post to the bottom of the log and removing the bottom flitch first. The reason being is that , when taking the 1st cut on top of the log , I was ending up with a 1 1/2" thick top flitch after compensating for clearance of the end plates. Then add 3/8" for the kerf of the cut and you have removed 1 7/8" of wood just to get a flat surface. I could yield another 3/4" thick board by moving to the bottom of the log and just barely skinning off a 1/2" flitch plus 3/8" kerf and you've only sacrificed 7/8" of wood 🪵 . When making long cuts (10-20') , I pull 2 strings from end plate to end plate (keep in mind, there are 2 pieces of 1 3/4" exhaust pipe. Left & Right for the mill to slide down). The strings are so I can set up mid span support structures that barely kiss the strings to keep the pipe from dipping down when the saw comes sliding down the rails. I have some homemade steel square tubing cut in half with a 1/2 round circle (1 3/4" hole saw cut, sliced down the middle) . The square tubing now resembles a " U " shape or piece of steel channel. Or I sometimes just use wooden blocks screwed into the log to reach up and barely " Kiss " or touch the string. When I'm all set up , remove strings and lay the exhaust pipe in the 1/2 circle cut outs.

    Bought my first ripping chain from Granberg a few weeks back and it was immediately apparent that the quality of the chain was far superior to anything else - even other name brand chains. I really want to ask if they'll sell that chain with a standard profile so I can use it for regular crosscuts. Easily one of the best upgrades ever...

    How would a regular bandsaw fare (cost wise) compared to all those chainsaws+jigs? I suppose if the difference is around 1-2k, it would be worth looking into. A sawmill on rails would do all this works much, much faster and more precise?

    • @senselessfun
      @senselessfun 14 днів тому

      Yes. I agree if you had no equipment at all and were doing a cost difference then there wouldn't only be a couple thousand difference for getting a bandsaw mill. But that also depends on what you buy. If you buy a cheap bandsaw mill and expensive saws etc it would be small difference. If you buy cheap saws and an expensive bandsaw there would be a huge difference. Also to get large logs onto a bandsaw mill rail you need some type of equipment usually. That can also vary from winches and pullies to a tractor so that has to be thought of. Far better results and much easier with a bandsaw mill setup though in my opinion.

    Help, I have the rybp38 and I’ve changed the carb, fuel lines and plug. It will only startup for a moment only after I spray starter fluid in the carb

    • @senselessfun
      @senselessfun 23 дні тому

      The two things I would check is to ensure you didn't hook up the fuel lines backwards going to carb from tank. And if it was a cheap carb off amazon that you purchased you may have got a bad one. They are hit or miss if they work or not.

    • @keithhouston390
      @keithhouston390 23 дні тому

      @ thanks. I believe I have the lines correct but am not 100%sure. What is the correct orientation. The line that the primer bulb is connected to is not the line with the filter right?

    • @senselessfun
      @senselessfun 22 дні тому

      Let's forget about left and right in case those lines aren't in the same place in tank. take the cap off tank and look to see which side has the long hose with the filter attached to it and trace that to which side it goes out. That hose should be connected to bottom of carb. The other line is the return line and that one should be connected to the longer nipple on the priming bulb assembly. Also double check the fuel lines didn't get pinched anywhere when you put the new carb on and tightened it down. If that is all good and the priming bulb works correctly then it may be a junk carb you were sent.

    • @keithhouston390
      @keithhouston390 17 днів тому

      @ the long hose is connected to the fitting that is closest to the body of the blower. I believe that is the line closest to the carburetor pump. The short line is connected to the fitting that closes to the filter. The opening of that fitting faces the tank

    • @senselessfun

      To charge lithium batteries with that charger you choose the Lifep04 setting on the unit.

    • @shanefthomas
      @shanefthomas 13 днів тому

      If the charger cannot detect the very flat battery, the BMS maybe shut down. To wake it up put 12v across the flat battery for a few seconds then you might have 11v on the zero volt batter, now the red charger will detect and charge. If that does not work take the 12v battery apart, if each of the 4 cells inside measures over 2.5v each you need to replace the BMS, about USD8$ upwards from china for 12v 100A BMS

Should I charge the battery even I only used the battery in just 1 hour during power outage? Is it healthy to keep it 100% all the time even though I don't use it always?

I honestly can't complain. I use them for 50ah and 100ah lifep04 batteries all the time. And I have had batteries my Schumacher chargers would just lock up trying to charge but these chargers were able to do it.

    That sounds about right. Power stations typically have a higher internal battery voltage so they have a regulated DC-DC to generate the 12V output. The inverter should not have mattered ... I'm assuming you left it turned off. So no factor there. The discrete battery on the other-hand is just directly connected to the fridge without any conversions. Those Peltier fridges (I assume its a peltier fridge and not a compressor fridge) burn a lot of power. Your fridge was using an average of 53W or so throughout the test. A small high-efficiency compressor fridge would be using an average of around 15W. But the Peltier fridges do have the advantage of simplicity. They literally have just two parts (the Peltier element and a fan) and that's it. -Matt
