Totally unbiased video🙄 nice graded in focus and wide aperture shots with the gimbal but foolish nonsensical shots with the shoulder rig. It’s fair enough that you are biased but try to make an objective video at least🤷‍♂️

The different in focal lengths further exaggerate the differences in movement.

I shoot a lot of analog film on manual cams with (obviously) no auto focus.. the best, most useful and cheapest gear I ever bought is a 30 dollar laser measure box. mounted it on the side of my rig and use it religiously. its fast and accurate and now I use it almost exclusively on all my cams, both digital and analogue.

I came here to learn the difference between the two but ended up learning a lot more on how different camera angles could be used in storytelling. This was so much fun to watch! I think the shoulder rig would probably work well in a horror setting maybe? Like when someone or something is chasing after you.

I liked your video, however, I think they are equipment for different functions. The main function of the Shoulder Rig is to convey the sensation of the human gaze. As if you were present at the scene watching. That's why it's not completely static. The gimbal is used to create movement. The most correct comparison would be a gimbal and a steadicam.

Thank you for showcasing both. I actually enjoy the story telling of a natural shake and what it can emote when using a handheld or shoulder rig. By the way the rig is meant to carry a counter balance to get more of a natural balance. I think depending of your story telling gimbal, shoulder rig, handheld ect is really up to you. Add the counter weight and it’ll add much more balance to make a more accurate comparison. Well done !

When I first became a commercial drone operator I needed to label batteries to keep a battery log. It's a habit that I was so glad I got into, now I'm never stuck wondering if a battery has been charged/will have enough charge/has been used... I just "know"... Labelling them also means you can cycle your batteries, so you're not using the same one over and over again, while others are dying a slow death in the cupboard from not having a regular charge cycle, which they need regularly to maintain them... Tip 2.5 use the labels to ensure your batteries are used/discharged and cycled often.

You gotta avoid that rolling shutter, man

A "Banana" is a direction given to the talent (actor) to move across the set in curved path when moving closer to or further away from the lens... It's most commonly used either as an establishing shot or as part of a reveal... A perfect (albeit extreme and likely incidental) example of a "Banana" is in your focus pulling tips video, when the guy is running straight at the camera, he needs to swerve off or risk running into the camera, but in so doing "reveals" the background, allowing the focus puller to create the "reveal" by shifting focus back to the background.
