Nearly all dictionaries prefer ColoRADDo to ColorAHdo, though they list both. I've heard that circa 1850 some early settlers suggested ColoRAYdo, though it did not prevail.

Great video! My father worked closely with Jack Swigert on his 1982 campaign and later lobbied to have that statue placed. One day, I came home from high school to find Jack Swigert standing in my living room talking with my father, Dad said, "Jack, I'd like you to meet my son, Ted." Turning to me he then says, Jack was an Apollo 13 astronaut." We shook hands and Jack said, "Very nice to meet you, Ted." To which I replied, "I know all about you (pause). You know, for an astronaut, you are really down to earth!" I will never forget seeing Mr. Swigert and my dad laugh so hard. To which my father replied. . . and now you know, Ted!" To this day, that is one of my fondest memories, meeting an Apollo 13 astronaut in my living room and hearing his laughter at one of my puns. Best audience ever! Sadly, I also remember my dad getting the phone call that Jack had passed away. That was a tear-filled day. I am grateful to have stumbled upon this video. My dad passed in 2012 and I think of both of them whenever I see that statue at DIA.

As a Front Range Coloradan, I've rarely heard Colorado pronounced that way, and always with the a sounding like the a in "father". But I suspect the æ pronunciation of the a is more common among the rural folk. The modern pronunciation I am familiar with most accurately reflect the original Spanish pronunciation [ko.loˈɾa.ð̞o], but as always, pronunciation is left to differentiation.

My family are coloridian natives (as in Native American) and I can promise we all say coloRADo. Only people newly moved to the state or in the city of Denver say colorodoh. Some older folks even still say coloRADer.

Even as a Coloradan who lived here his whole life, I still got everything but Arapahoe, Arvada, and Colorado wrong.

This was a nicely done video. I travel frequently and I am often in the Denver Airport and I always make a point of stopping by the statue of Jack Swigert in terminal B. On a similar note, if you’ve never seen the statue of Roger Chaffee in Grand Rapids Michigan it’s worth a look. It’s very similar and extremely well done.

A more confusing one is Buchtel as in Buchtel Blvd.
