51:30 that’s horrifying
Great job interviewing, Tayo
13:40 Yep. Me, too. I would fall closer to an anarcho-socialist.
Anarcho-Capitalist. Already been told off for holding juvenile ideology.
4:18 Nice!
Setting of the background is very well done, Natty 🙏
Natty! I’ve been wondering how she’s doing. Hope things are well if you see this sis!
One of the sections of Screwtape Letters I am often conscious of is the part where Lewis writes about disappointment in the local church and how that can distract from our focus on God. I don't know if you should become Orthodox or not and I'll keep you in my prayers. I do sense though a kind of restlessness which is very much in myself also and sometimes pulls me as much away from God as to him. That said to be clear if I'm sounding preachy, I've left a religious tradition myself and it wasn't until I left and began to heal from the resentments I had that I started to see more clearly the way the faith I was raised in blessed me.
Good word.
I don't know much about David Platt. I'm a sucker for anything about group dynamics though(IE cult documentaries, The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill) maybe it's my business school background. If there's a specific podcast or video you want to discuss feel free to shoot me a message.
Pete Holmes the comedian?
Yep.
What were the 2 foundations that would possibly support an estuary event? Good interview/ conversation. Really enjoyed hearing the history and behind the scenes I knew of but not in the depth you covered. Totally worth watch this 3+ hour Livestream. Sorry couldn't catch it live, but glad to watch it.
2:45:15 what if i want to HIKE the football from John Vervaeke and tackle him lovingly Parlato style? 🏈❤😂
1:23:30 to answer Clara’s question with the best scientific evidence available: women, on average are more open to aesthetics than men, men, on average are more open to ideas than women. This space is the far, far end of the bell curve on openness to ideas.
You could equally ask why theater production audiences are dominated by women. It’s the higher levels of openness to aesthetics. Again, on average.
1:14:00 what happened to the forum!?!?
46:00 the week off for Job strikes me as providence
21:45 difficult and endearing ❤
Jeff & Clara, I really enjoyed your conversation today. I really appreciated learning more about you Jeff and info on the history of the TLC spaces and the community having great conversations for others to view. And thank you Jeff for the invite to discuss C.S. Lewis on your channel as I think that would be a great way to acquire a better understanding of his writings. Oh, and which of your channels will the conversations be held on?
2000 Protestant sects is very confusing.

1:38:44 Would you like to "engage" with me Mark?
Why? About what? I really don't know anything about you. Feel free to come on a stream if you think this is something you are interested in.
@@marklefebvre5758you said "people won't engage." So I'm offering to engage. And after meeting me, it's possible that you might find the rumors of my psychopathy to be exaggerated.
“To know and be known” - this is excellent and important framing. I have not heard this phrase in quite some time- we should bring it back
I remember the bracelet transforming Eustace. The Petersonian equivalent of, “maybe 90% of you is dead and needs to burn off”
Thanks for watching
Wait. Why are you two matching? Do you do this on the daily? I feel left out.
Great conversation. Luke, you did great as an interviewer. Hope to see more of Dawn! 🎉
1:05:00 this idea that you cannot argue with a story- it is the wonderful thing that religios some, pushes away others with no interest in community.
Dawn - 1. Theodicy ... struggle of Jacob with the Angel that produces Israel ;-) Facing down life and learning humility. 2. Bible Study ... early Church = Yes; philology of Latin, Greek and Hebrew? Yes, yes and yes. This leads into EO trad.
I'm loving this. Dawn this was such a pleasure. Luke thank you for this
Man this re-discovery of the “purpose of suffering” instinct is precisely what I went through as well. Different form- same substance
55:09 yup, VNA
Look at you, Luke. Following in Paul's footsteps. You are now a true disciple of TLC! :) I skipped to the 1:15:00-ish mark and something that Dawn said caught my attention. She said that "people can't argue with your story," which is incredibly insightful. However, I would put it a bit differently: Rather, many individuals hesitate to challenge your narrative because they recognize the emotional vulnerability involved in sharing it. Engaging with someone's personal story in an accepting manner can lead to immense catharsis but challenging it can lead to profound hurt, and that awareness of the latter often keeps people from disputing what has been shared. This brings to mind one of my favorite addages: "It is better to be divided by truth than to be united in error. It is better to speak the truth that hurts and then heals, than falsehood that comforts and then kills." And often "falsehood" is not speaking up at all and letting people believe in a lie. I venture to guess that you are thinking of me as one of those participants who always has a negative outlook. Just to clarify, while I do have a knack for criticism, I also excel at offering genuine compliments that uplift others. If my critiques seem overwhelming, it's often a response to what I perceive as toxic positivity and is a reaction against confirmation bias. Having spent much of my life in and around cults, I’ve been deeply affected by those experiences, especially since some of my closest relationships have been with individuals raised in such environments. I hope you can appreciate that my protective instincts come from a place of empathy. With that said, we all need to take a hit of copium every now and again. However, if that escape turns into a dependency, it's important to pause, reflect, and understand what’s truly going on beneath the surface. Wishing you peace.
Now I want to do a book club show on my channel starring Dawn...
34:25 Mansfield Park is my favorite of Austin's novels too.
Dawn is amazing!
32:38 I need to have Dawn and her C. S. Lewis love on to help with my project at some point. Dog barking allowed 🐶
55:16 this is VNA at its core
❤ a very good point.
54:02 this is 💯 spot on true
Thanks for watching, shoulder. 😘
I watch anytime you’re on the channel 🤗

Luke prolificity ... "The trivium is the lower division of the seven liberal arts and comprises grammar (analyzing sentences), logic (relating sentences), and rhetoric (creating sentences)." that included traditional logic until 1850. Symbolic logic arose out of maths around 1850 and formed the basis of computer architecture circa 1950 (Modernism). An English major would know the "trivium" ... the prerequisite of university education before 1950 ... practical stuff for biology (Greek) and law (Latin). Up until 1920, Greek and Latin were commonly taught to most undergraduates. The recent Classical Education movement has tried to revive traditional education at the HS level. Post-Modern in the US arose after 1950 because of all the academic refugees from WWII. The Eastern view is entirely different.

44:00 Job on the Bridges of Meaning pattern. This has been THEE? or a primary constant in this world.
Wow! So many stand out moments of thought, thank you guys ♥️. But the "Self foregetfulness in suffering", being part of God's lesson (what I would call Sanctification), was profound🎉. Totally made me pause and think. In my suffering, I have found myself so incredibly selfish. As Lewis would say "I want everyone to be about me," and I know there is a knee jerk/ natural reaction to that. And my knee jerk reactions, are mostly sinful in nature. So I am having to do some deep thinking on my response to trauma and sufferring. What the purpose of it is.
Thank you guys for this great idea. I was seriously hunting down other people who have read this and had discussed it with their experiences and notes. I lost my Mom two years ago, she got stage 4 cancer. I am an only child and she was a single mother. She was my closest person in this world. I love God, but I stuggled with the questions of "why". And it still feels like yesterday, like no time has gone by. And I have struggled with grief in so many ways described. I have had the feeling of if not wanting this existence anymore. This was great, I am excited to go on to the next videos.
I'm sorry we never ended up finishing, but hoping of the sections we did cover in the series, you can find something that helps.
Facinating to hear from someone who lives alone (by choice) having a solution (embodied?) To the Intimacy Crisis? Color me skeptical. I found the convo highly enlightening to give me a deeper understanding of each gentleman's backstory and confirm various observations and intuitions.
