Hello! Welcome to Dave's Canoeing Adventures!
I am an avid canoeist who takes any opportunity to dip my hull in the water.
I hope that you will take the time to have a look around. In this channel I am trying to showcase the local rivers and ponds in Southern Ontario. My goal is to show people that you can still have a great time paddling even if you are near cities and towns.
I also hope that you will look into the backcountry trips section. These trips range much farther north in Ontario. They consist of multi-day excursions of daring portages and beautiful lakes and rivers. We experience storms and driving winds as well as sunny still days.
Thank you for visiting my channel I hope that you enjoy what you see. If you do enjoy this channel please subscribe, and check the bell for notifications. My goal is to get at least 1 video a month uploaded.
Also feel free to leave comments and messages.

My First SOLO Camping Adventure!!
Join me as I head into the wilderness and camp alone for the first time. It's a chance for me to try and see if this is something I would enjoy doing more often.
Enjoy breathtaking scenery as I make my way into the backcountry. This is only a quick 2 day trip, but that is ok. Some time is better than none. I will say, going solo is far different when it comes to experiencing nature around you.
Don't forget to throw down a comment, and if you aren't a subscriber go ahead and smash that subscribe button.
This is for entertainment purposes only. Use these areas and practices at your own risk. Follow safe boating procedures and regulations (for example: wear a life jacket or pfd). Research the area before going. Research local laws and by-laws.

That sucks, air mattresses that are cheap arnt worth a damn, and the good ones are super expensive. You tried a self inflating mat that has the cushioning also? Great video. Stunning scenery lad
Well, it was a cheap one, lol. I think I bought it for 20 dollars. That said, it did last a few years. Thanks! It was a beautiful location.
Great video!
Solo tripping is certainly different and pretty grounding. I enjoyed your editing on this, Dave. Reminded me of good old days and even the music reminded me of a time when UA-cam wasn't such a huge rat race. I'd watch this stuff to relax and enjoy something real. Good stuff man!
Thanks so much for the positivity. I really appreciate it. Yes, it seems like preoccupation with trying to master the algorithm can take from the quality. I am trying to slow the rhythm as I go on these videos.
Good to see you getting out solo. My favourite trip I ever did was a extended two week solo trip. Pure bliss being out there and facing the elements on your own. Cheers
Thanks man! Yes, it was far more enjoyable than I had thought going in. I have gone on many solo day adventures as my earlier videos show, but the overnight and beyond are a little different.
Ontario is so beautiful!🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Lovely solo adventure man, you found amazing camping spot!
Thanks, I really appreciate it!
Great adventure Dave.
Great video Dave. Keep em coming.
Thanks, man!
Nice trip! You’ll get more comfortable going solo with time.
@kevinthewild Thanks, man! I definitely enjoyed it.
Good video Dave!
@Zlxe13 Thanks!
Cool video!😊
I looked for royalex, & useable, as well as not breaking the bank. Recently I got a royalex 2004 old town tripper 172 for a price you wouldnt believe if I told you. It was left on its side, outside & the yoke & thwart rotted at the dirty end. It's perfect because I have all kinds of wood shop tools, & stacks of air dried hardwood boards. I was given the flotation vests & whitewater style paddles in the deal too. If I bought those myself, new, they'd be about 1/2 of the overall sale price for all of it. I cant believe I got that deal! Only thing I didnt like was the plastic seats. But who cares! Did I mention the wood shop & plentiful hardwood supply? Yes I'm a little bit excited. 😊 With this purchase, I'm free to give my 1985 whitesport fiberglass 15' to my son. He's pretty excited about my new canoe, too. 😅
Awesome! It's always good to find deals like that. It's also gonna be great to have that spare canoe for your son!
Great work. New subscriber here. Keep up the awesome work man and tight lines
Thanks for subscribing!
Looks like it was a great trip!!
It certainly was a blast!
Thank you so much for sharing the useful information!
I am glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
What made you guys go the Little French route? Do the lower French from Hartley marina to Georgian bay, or the upper French from Woseley around the island and back. It'll blow you away compared to the little French area!
Well, we saw a few guys on UA-cam do a cool loop all the way up and through Lake Nippissing. So we totally thought we could pull it off. As we got closer to the trip, we realized we couldn't do the loop in the time we allotted, so we shortened it to what we did in the videos. I plan on paddling the more scenic routes eventually.
I just paddled about 9 kilometers of this beauty, on March 12th, 2024. The water was high! Lots of log jams, some could be run, others could not. Canada's Amazon!
It's a nice spot for sure! It would be awesome if some of those log jams were cleared out. Thanks for watching!
How about in an inflatable (Marina 3 with trolling motor) and paddles, of course?
beautiful canoes, im leaning on getting sportspap s-15 it checks all the boxes for me needs, it will be the first canoe I have ever owned, greetings from the states!
Awesome! You will enjoy getting out there.
Another great video mate, looked like an awesome trip! we love seeing those monster snapping turtles, such a cool experience.
Thanks man! I really appreciate it. Yes, that one is huge. We have no way to prove it, but we are pretty sure he was there at that same site 10 years earlier.
@@davescanoeingadventures could be 50 plus years old!
@@Tents.and.Timber lol probably the king of that lake!
Looks like a great trip! I'm really intrigued about how the Magnetawan goes from Algonquin to Georgian Bay and wonder if it's a historical travel route. Also, I'm glad you chronicled the confusion about being on Big Wilson or not - makes me feel better about the time a similar confusion happened to me!
Lol. It happens. The worst was on our French River trip. We passed our portage and had a crazy tail wind so by the time we realized what had happened it was a huge deal to paddle back against the wind. I hope you enjoy the next two parts!
Awesome video Dave and looks like it was an amazing trip!! Also some great drive shots!
Thanks man! It was a blast.
Thanks for the shoutout Dave! 😄. Great trip! Keep ‘em coming! 🍻
Thanks, man! I definitely will.
i want to buy one but im not sure if i should get the 17 or 15''. my girl says she will come sometimes with me...but i got to be sure is good for solo paddling as well. thank you. is it good for soloing as well?
Unfortunately the 17 foot is a little bit cumbersome to paddle solo, especially with no gear. Loaded it is better. A 15 footer will be easier for solo. Hope that helps. I would recommend you go and talk to the company to narrow down what direction you want to go.
@@davescanoeingadventures thank you , I will do that. Last question, does the 15” goes fine with two paddling as well? Taking just gear for two days expedition only. Thanks !
@segundaordem oh yes, for a two day trip, 15 was enough room for me. It started to be a problem when we started bigger trips.
thank you!@@davescanoeingadventures
Nothing like a trip with the boys. Nice shooting and narrating! Looks like a good group. Cheers!
Thanks! They are great guys! Episode 3 will be up soon.
What was your basic route? Trying to follow along on a map. Great videos. Thanks
I will be putting up a map animation to the route at the end of the series. Thanks for watching!
Awesome Video Dave!!
Thanks man!
Looking forward to the next video man! Amazing shots with the drone!
Thanks!!
Hey Dave want to go kayaking with you
Any openings in October
Found your video at the perfect time when I needed the most
Sweet buddies trip! One arm paddle, got to try that technique this weekend. Falls, rock and pine. Bummer about the cottages and boat traffic though. Keep on paddling!
Lol. It's tougher than it looks. 😀 Thanks for the great comment! Sometimes, we get wilderness. Sometimes, we don't.
I can imagine, I'll probably pull an upper back or neck muscle trying to do so @@davescanoeingadventures
Bro, epic trailer vid!! Well down!!
Thanks man! I really appreciate the positive feedback!
1865? Didn’t the Indians use them?
Absolutely, but the canoe was used as a hobby and for sport around that time. Not a primary vehicle. I meant it more as a shift in perspective occurred around that date.
Hey Dave, did pick up a We No Nah Sundowner 18'. All the wood is gone. Waiting or Gunwale kit, Thwart, and Yoke from Northwest Canoe outfitters in Minnesota. Luckily, I can use what's left of the thwart and Yoke to recreate the dimensions. What I am wondering about is making top plates. Do you suggest just filling the negative space after installing the gunwales? or should I make sure that the radius is continual once I find out?
That's entirely up to what you want it to look like. There are some canoes that have very elaborate decks and some that have next to nothing. It's purpose is to essentially bind the two ends of the gunwales so as to complete the structural support. Good luck with the project. I would recommend you talk to Northwest Canoe for more details.
@@davescanoeingadventures Thanks, good advice!
Nice info. Thanks

Loving the intensity of this dude and the drone shots! Keep up the adventures.
Thanks man. I really appreciate it!
I NEED to see this MOVIE!!!
Did this many years ago, it's a great paddle - thanks for the memories!
No problem! It is a nice location!
We tore up the French river pretty hard in this last video, but no matter where we go it's always a great time getting out with the boys!!
That's for sure, my friend!!
Nicely done, Dave! Love the drone shots. You'll have great memories to look back on. Best part about filming if you ask me.
Thanks man! That is so true, we sometime sit back and watch the old videos.
Great Promo video, makes me want more!
Awesome, thanks man!!!
Dude…. This was EPIC!! The music and the clips you put together made it feel like a new movie that was coming soon!
Nice promo. When we move we'll have to get out (if you have room in your conoe). Is 2023 going to be "the year"?
Here's hoping!
Great video 🎉
Thanks!!!
Learned a little bit more about your canoe again! Good job bro and very informational!
Thanks man!
