Seneca, also known as Lucius Annaeus Seneca the Younger, was a prominent figure in Roman history during the 1st century AD.
He wore many hats throughout his life, including:
- Stoic philosopher
- Statesman
- Playwright
- Dramatist
Seneca was born in Cordoba, Spain, around 4 BC. He received a well-rounded education in Rome, studying rhetoric and philosophy. He became a follower of Stoicism, a Greek philosophy that emphasized reason, virtue, and living in harmony with nature.
Seneca's political career was filled with both success and controversy. He served as an advisor to emperor Nero, but eventually fell out of favor and was forced to commit suicide in 65 AD.
Despite the dramatic end to his life, Seneca's writings continue to be influential today.
His philosophical letters, tragedies, and essays offer timeless wisdom on topics such as:
- The importance of living a virtuous life
- How to deal with adversity
- The fleeting nature of wealth and power
Here are some of Seneca's most famous works:
- Letters from a Stoic
- On the Shortness of Life
- Moral Essays
- Oedipus
- Medea
Seneca's legacy is that of a brilliant thinker who grappled with the big questions of life. His writings continue to inspire people who seek to live a meaningful and ethical life.

Marcus Aurelius wrote all this in the form of a diary, therefore addressing himself. Did he really believe in what he wrote? I am neither a philosopher nor an emperor, yet I also write a diary addressing myself, not everything I write I manage to do in practice. It was the same for him perhaps? Greetings from Italy

just about the only thing I disagree with the stoics on is their faith in gods. And even then, their gods were MUCH more palatable than the Abrahamic one. Aside from that, the rest of the philosophy is pure gold. And they never said being emotional is a bad thing. It is all about proportion and control. People seem to think being a stoic is akin to being a Star Trek Vulcan for some reason. It's simply not the case.

good job, but you should have left this out this one time . imagine a bunch of people trying to learn about stoicism , yet cannot remember to look at and remember a Time stamp, and then if thats not enough , to whine about the lack of time stamps as a stoic . now that is comedy that writes itself . That said i appreciate your effort.

We Sith are strict, rigorous and stern with others. People sometimes lack selfcontrol and discipline.
