I don't think the business of photography is dead, but I do think the business has changed, where people hire photographers to do something unique / special for the customer. Additionally, there is probably downward pressure on a photographer's price, because people confuse owning a camera with taking great photos. I bought my daughter the 14-150. She liked it so much, I bought myself one used from Roberts.

Nice video Dewey, I am a hobby photographer and I use both a Canon 90D and an R8, I have the EF 100-400L mkii plus 1.4tc , I also have the RF100-400 budget version. I am very happy with the quality of images I can get from both these lenses, even when displayed on a large screen tv! so whilst the 100-300 $9500 is probably worth it for a pro, I don’t think the average hobbyist would see much benefit in image quality? Older EF L series glass works great on RF camera’s so if you ever see a bargain for sale it would be worth considering..

To each his own. Enjoy what makes you happy. For landscape photography I think sensor size does matter. MFT are nice cameras but they don’t match the image quality of a FF or MF when you really push it. I shoot predominantly birds etc so I use the R7 with long lenses. The IBIS, AF etc matters and I use EF L lenses I bought used. Great value and great performance. For the handful of landscape opportunities I feel like doing I am considering going the film and scan route… a LF camera with movements with a 6x9 etc back . Then scan and stitch 1:1 with the R7 and a macro lens back home. Cumbersome but awesome I think. Amazing for me to learn in my research on this is that modern sensors now exceed the dynamic range of film. A pity you can’t get a full size MF sensor at a price you don’t have to sell one of your children for.. I am fresh out of those.

I just bought a Olympus OM TG-7, and for me it is an excellent camera, it is built to take a physical beating and is waterproof. I will be taking my camera on hikes and other outdoorsy-stuff. You can buy an add-on wide-angle lens(down to 20mm) and a telephoto(180mm), but me it is those little plastic doo-dads that enable me to take qualify macro photos. If you need a camera with better photo and video qualities, a Sony RX100-5a is the ticket, it has a bigger sensor and a popup EVF, but the price is doubled at $1,000.

The thing that sucks about this is that we’re being charged a premium price. New world way (less for more $) for lenses that have less glass and inferior engineering than older EF lenses. Aren’t we supposed to be more technologically advanced? It’s a scam the fact you have to use software in post to fix what we shouldn’t have to in the first place totally sucks! I was a huge Canon advocate I have lots of EF L glass and DSLR camera bodies and now the R5 and I’m about to switch brands due to Canons new lens line up and ridiculous cost for basically all plastic slow aperture lenses with no internal zooming telephoto’s. We all know these will have dust in them after time being an external zoom lens/ vacuum pump. I bought the R5 a couple months ago in hopes that they were going to open up the RF system to third party and nope we were just kidding about that only for apsc wtf Canon! Nikon made a 200-500 f5.6 back in 2015 for $1500.
