    Thanks for sharing the video of your trip. I'd love to go back to the BWCA again. As a safety moment for other viewers, be sure to keep your body out of the line of a bow saw. At 21:57, the video caused the Scoutmaster in me to become alarmed.

      Hi @ppodhajsky1, thanks for checking in! Good tip for the saw. Unfortunately, I come from the school of Eugene (old man) who had all of us boys with chainsaws in our hands since teenagers. To all viewers, @ppodhajsky1 is right, if you're prone to inattention with hazardous tools, don't follow my lead.😁

    "Book 'em, Danno!" I won't say the name of the show as to not give it away to your other subscribers. I like your pure family approach to these outings. Good clean wholesome family fun. I envy the connection you have with your children. I guess I'm jealous. I must have done something wrong or maybe I had a bad teacher?

    Two full size pillows. Wow. Never heard of that. Probably ok if you are base camping. Like your tarp setup. I use lean to method in wind too but use Cliff Jacobsen’s method - tie tarp to ridge line which is head high, pole goes in middle pushing tarp out, back end is staked down to ground, run line from ridge line to ground to prevent ridge line from blowing up and down in wind and run line from tarp to ground in middle on both sides. Tarp pole is nesting vs corded telescopic so I can leave sections out to get desired length. Enjoy watching your videos.

    50:00 By far my favorite moment. "When you got an aluminum cup the sides heat up immediately with hot water." I love Reney's very low expectations of what video equipment can record and hear through audio. Enjoyed it all the way through, can't wait for the next adventure! What kind of tent do you have? It looks like it goes up super quick and easy! My husband and I take a four wheeling trip every year with friends but our tent is really big and clunky. It’ll be good for when we have kids but big for just us two.

      Hi Overman, it's a Marmot Tungsten 3P with a footprint. So technically a 3 person but you know how that works. I find it's perfect for 2 adults with length to bring in a back pack or spare dry clothes at your feet.

    I'm guessing the pickup must have been related to the truck portage. At one point it was disconnected, later it was reopened using sled dogs, if I remember correctly. I'm not sure if they reauthorized the use of trucks, hauling out one way overdue, or something completely different. Mystery from the past? In the early 80's there was an old steam tractor just off of Ima lake to the west. Most of the front end, and smoke stack visible. On subsequent trips I watched the hood, pipe slowly, but surely get swallowed up by the Muskeg, and water.

  • @daveivonen1108
    @daveivonen1108 4 місяці тому

    I padded through Sawbill to camp, and fish Alton; the portage to Alton is a veritable super-highway as far as portages go. Fishing was slow, other than hyper-aggresive hammer handles on neighboring lake's. I have not fished Burnt, Smoke, or Flame, but have heard many reports that make me wish to chase Eyes there sometime.

    I used the Sawyer one gallon gravity fed filter for a 5 day Isle Royale hike with three other people and a 4 day BWCA Oct trip with one other person. Worked great as long as you are not in a hurry to get the water. For the Isle Royale trip we filled up 8 30-32 oz Nalgene as soon as we got to camp and then topped them off before we went to bed so all the bottles were full when we left in the morning. For the BWCA trip we just filled them up at our leisure as we needed water. The stream does slow down as you use it so you need to remember the backflush syringe to clean it out. FInally it is real nice because you just sent the bottle under the filter and you can go setup camp, eat etc. Just remember to have someone check once in awhile. I bet we filtered a gallon of water over the trip that just went in the ground because all of us forgot we were filling the bottles!!!!! My wife did use the steri pen but I think by the end of the trip she was ok with just the Sawyer filter. The water we filtered was not bad to start, interior lakes on Isle Royale and a BWCA lake.

    Get an in-line filter, a little tubing, and a dirty jug and a clean jug. We use 5 gal collapsible jugs, grab water on your way into camp, hang dirty jug from a tree and start filtering. By the time you have camp set up- you’ll have 5 gal of clean water! Of course there are complete systems and such, but we just bought the filter and threw everything else together. Our favorite saying around camp is “ I’m making water”

Very tough fishing, but you see we caught one lunch's worth with a 2.5 pounder. Very warm and pretty heavy with black flies. Definitely needed the nets. Beautiful area.

    I felt that pain when you recognized you realized you forgot the onions and peppers as well as the sleeping pad. 🥴 My first trip to the BWCA I forgot all my plastics for fishing and only had jig heads. Now every trip I go I actually pack a separate bag for overnight camping the day before we leave so I don't touch anything that I am bringing on the trip. I'm paranoid like that, but that's because I forget stuff in my everyday like. Can't tell you how many times I leave something at home I need for work and have to go back. 🤦🏻‍♂
