Pioneering My Alaska | Part 2.2 | Epic Bridge
The Continuation of a crazy Fall trip to the land I soon will call my home.
To those who commented ideas in Part 2.1 for supporting the middle of the bridge, I appreciate your input. Please be aware that with the creek being a salmon spawning ground, I can not put any permanent structure or drastically change the flow of water legally. (The reason for the cable idea) If you have any ideas that don't involve putting anything in the water I would love to hear them.
To those that commented in Part 2.1 about the low end of the bridge needing to be further away from the creek bank and higher above the water level. I hear you and I agree. My next trip to the property will include fixing this issue. I appreciate your bringing it to my attention
I am sorry to announce this, but I won't be back to AK until next summer. Please remember this is just the very very beginnings of a complete 180° life change. This winter will be spent down in Arizona where I currently live and work. But that does not mean I have quit on my dream and that doesn't mean I will stop documenting my journey. When the snow melts next spring, I will be back in Alaska working away yet again. Soon enough this channel will be putting out weekly episodes and I will be living there full time. But for now, patience will be a virtue.
Thanks again to all you lovely people that support this channel. I appreciate your likes, shares, subscriptions, and comments. Someday, this UA-cam channel may be the only source of income I have.
Sincerely,
Ty (Life on Fish Creek)

Part 2.1 I feel so lucky to be back for a second time this year. I need to be able to access my land with gas powered machines. ARGO and Snowmachine in particular. In order to be able to do this. I must create a trail from my land to the existing trail that leads to the river. This way I can travel by boat and then haul my material by Argo. Or in the winter I can have a trail to haul material b...

You should trim the branches off the tees you are building the bridge with and put some logs under so it rolls easier

After you {nail } the bridge together, get threaded bolts , auger and really get it tight.. A driving bridge ?? I wouldn't ride a scooter on it- it's gonna be a bounce house...

I appreciate your hard work-- I think you should get a rod and reel for the creek, use bolts for your bridge-- nails just won't hold it together . How are you keeping your food from going bad???

Have you thought about using piers for your bridge? A couple of 45 gallon drums, for example, would work. Enjoy watching your videos!

Do you think that cutting the logs going across in half with a chainsaw mill would lighten the load by half and still be strong enough to run machines across

If you want to catch fish get a spinning rod. Throw that fly fish rod away. Get yourself smoke spinning lures different baits.

What are the objectives? A secluded life, a Stone Age lifestyle, food production, a hunting lifestyle. There are no schematic diagrams of modern roads, so no ideas. Why do you want to build a bridge (you don't seem to have any knowledge of construction). Is it just because you don't want your clothes and body to get wet? You can cross by boat even if there is no bridge. Building a bridge requires a lot of effort and materials. Will you travel by foot? To what extent will you need modern machinery?

cable from above with turnbuckles as already been mentioned using the trees is the way to go!!! Also....add a couple of upridges under the bridge on both sides of the creek to help share the load.

I hope you don't plan on spending the winner in that a frame. Winters are long and cold, -20°.. You need to think of a permanent shelter a cabin. You will freeze in that a frame... Winter is only a few months off.. You need a lot of firewood, we put up 11 chord.

A little advice: You need to sharpen your chain every day and don't put it in the dirt. When you try to cut with a dull chain it takes twice as much fuel. You want to save all your wood for firewood or for building purposes. Don't throw it off. All the smaller tops that are smaller than your wrist. You can burn off ,toss off. The rest saved for firewood
