Very nice shots! Rufa nests are usually south facing and will typically catch some sunshine at some point in the day. You might have an easier time getting enough light on your subjects then. Although these nests are insanely tall and that is an adaptation for colder climates and less sunshine. It's also good to know that the nest is at least as deep down as it is tall and tunnels extend outwards by a decent radius as well. So always be careful that you don't step too close to the dome, or you're likely to crush some rooms and tunnels. As others have mentioned, they do indeed carry their dead out to garbage dumps outside the nest. If they died of something infectious and the ants detect that, the worker carrying the biohazard away from the nest will often sacrifice herself and not return at all. However, it's not all doom and gloom as they also use taxis ;) Occasionally certain workers will catch rides, they'll conveniently curl up and the other worker will carry them to where they are needed. In giant leafcutter colonies even the colossal queen will do this if the workers feel she should be somewhere else. Another great opportunity to record ants that aren't zipping around as frantically, would be during the initial sunbathing they do in early spring. The colony will have only just come out of hibernation and all of them, including the hundreds of queens a nest like this has, will make their way to the surface to soak up the suns warmth to transfer it back down below. They turn the dome black with huge swaths of ants crowding around those openings.

Tried his lens, was NOT impressed. Image stabilization is garbage, and image quality is mediocre. I wouldn't buy this trash!

Get the docking system and you can control how fast or slow your AF focuses, as well as calibration tools.

Hi, I shoot with DSLR so at first was a bit puzzled by the dark screen. I think disabling exposure simulation will give you a "daylight" view so you can autofocus. ua-cam.com/video/bp3AsLhMwDk/v-deo.html Lovely images

Have you calibrated the focus of the lens to your body I found the lens was noticeable sharper once calibration was done, This needs to be done on all cameras and lenses to get best out of them wether its new or used. keep up the good work.

Thank you for posting this video. Very informative and I was able to relate to many of things you mentioned in regards to issues.

I bought this lens a few years ago for my Nikon Z50. I totally agree that it works pretty well, especially for the pricepoint. If you stop it down to F8, the sharpnes is lot better than with F6.3, at least in my opinion^^ Regarding the focus speed i would recommend buying the USB dock. There you can set a different focus speed mode for the C1 or C2 custom switch.

Hallo Max, ein super Video über dein Projekt. Ich verfolge es mit Spannung. Du wirst sehen, wenn die Vögel die Futterstelle erst richtig schätzen gelernt haben, werden sie regelmäßig kommen. Vermutlich muss es wohl kälter werden. Wichtig ist auch, das immer etwas Futter da ist. Ich habe gute Erfahrungen mit Futterspendern, gefüllt mit Erdnüssen, gemacht. Die lieben viele Vögel, wie Meisen, Kleiber, Sperlinge und Spechte. Was herunterfällt, nehmen die Rotkehlchen oder Heckenbraunellen gerne an. Wichtig ist, wie immer bei der Naturfotografie, Geduld. Ich wünsche dir weiterhin viel Erfolg, bin schon auf deine Ergebnisse gespannt. LG Walter
