MY AIM
My aim is very simple.
I have a passion for plants and wish to bring you two types of videos.
FIRSTLY, videos that solve problems, answer gardening FAQs, provide shortcuts, tips and hints about gardening.
SECONDLY to provide introductions and information on plants that I enjoy.
I like all types of plants so my videos cover both garden plants and indoor/house plants.
I try to get straight to the point and provide information as efficiently as possible.
So I try to keep my videos short and sweet. I don't like unnecessary waffle and fluff!
If that sounds like the type of plant info you need and the kind of videos you like then why not subscribe? I am sure that at least some of my upcoming videos will be interesting to you.
I have a lot of future videos in the pipeline. As of summer 2024 I now have multiple video projects that I am working on simultaneously so that I can bring you interesting content in the weeks and months to come.

I'm planting bulbs in a oblong container in the spring..
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Are they poisonous?
As far as I know, there are no toxicity problems for humans or pets with this plant. I have not encountered any reaction to the sap either and I do suffer from rashes and reactions to a wide range of plants but nothing with this one.
So did the seeds produce variegated plants the next year?
Good question! Unfortunately I lost the seeds amongst my hundreds of varieties of seeds that I collected in 2022. But as luck would have it, I found them just a couple of months ago in an old tin of seeds. Too late for the 2024 season and the seed is now 2 years old but Nasturtium seed is robust so I will definitely be sowing them in March 2025. If I get any germination, I will post a follow-up video with the results. ;-)
How many times in year the plant will bloom
Each growth will bloom as it reaches maturity. The mature growth then dies and multiple offshoots will form, each growing into a new rosette which in turn will flower when mature. So you won't get so much blooming in a year on young plants / small clumps but bigger clumps will bloom many times in a year.
Do you water from the top or bottom?
From the top with a watering can with a long spout so the water can be directed onto the compost. But watering from the bottom is a good method which avoids wet stems and leaves so does reduce the chances of rot.
Love them both.
They are both excellent.
It's now on my wish list.
Well worth hunting for!
Thank you. I found this beauty today and had to add it to my collection. Thank you for the helpful video.
Thanks for watching. Good luck with the growing!
Title needs changing. Says French lavender. Should say French lilac.
Thanks! Lavender seems to have popped into my head when I typed that. I shall adjust it now.
Thanks. I can relax now😂
@@ouessantpeaches6122 Take a well earned rest! ;-)
I have a question i buy mine from bulb and start to grow fast the first leave then and then a second one start to come out but the first got stock in the same size small and the second one once it open it got stuck much smaller than the first one and its been 1 month and 15 days and still got stuck at the same size
That is normal. The first leaves to grow will always be smaller. As the plant grows each new leaf, the new leaf should be bigger than the previous one. So you won't get full-sized leaves for many months, maybe even 1-2 years, depending on the age of your plant. As long as each NEW leaf is BIGGER than the last leaf then you know your plant is healthy and it will give you full sized leaves in time. Just be patient and it will get there.
Very concise and informative, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Will this work on plastic containers also?
Yes.
Is it the same plant or different ‘Llano carti road’?
From what I've seen, it's the same. Its definitely the same species.
@@plantwithmatt thx 🙏🏼 😊 💚
I love these 😊 Would you know how they look like when allowed to grow on moss poles? Do their leaves increase in size as well?
I have seen a photo of one growing up a moss pole and it looked great. Yes, the leaves do increase in size when they climb, as in nature the leaf size increases to maximise the light absorption when the plants reach the treetops. I think climbers generally look better when allowed to climb rather than scrambling or hanging. But it is a personal choice. I would have grown this plant in the video up a moss pole had I kept it but I am short on space. But I am moving early next year and will (hopefully) have lots more space for lots more houseplants and I will get another of these and will grow it up a mosspole so maybe I'll do an additional video on this plant next year.
I have a question. I have the pharaoh elephant ear plant. The leaves dropped and dried, but the main stem with the rootball is fairly healthy, looking with no leaves. Will it bloom new leaves?
Yes it should. Don't do anything drastic but just keep it slightly moist but not overly wet, in warmth with good light and wait for new growth. When growth restarts, you can gradually increase watering frequency and quantity.
Thank you so much. I just purchased one about a week ago from Lowes. It was wonderful to find information on how to care for it.
Thanks! I'm glad that you found it helpful.
is it radioactive and does it spit out blue atomic breath
Only if you don't take good care of it!
Beautiful ❤️❤️
Superb ❤️
Thanks 🤗
My plant is very strong and healthy she's over 15 inches tall and has not falling over yet !
No mention of a certain bright green liquor?
Ooh, I don't know about it! Am I missing something good?
This is not actually wormwood and is not the source of absinthe. That plant is Artemisia absinthium. This plant is sometimes called sacred sage. In dried form it is used by many First Nations people for purification by smudging.
Very nice 👍
So beautiful ❤❤
Amazing 😍😍
Very nice...the plant looks very healthy 💚💚🌿🌿
Yes it is. The growth is quite rapid when these are in good health.

It looks like a calathea pilosa am I right?
It does look quite similar to a Calathea (Ctenanthe) pilosa but this one is Alpinia zerumbet 'variegata'.
We have a really large terracotta pot that we can't put in a bucket, any idea how we can solve the problem?
Good question! I have not thought about outsized pots before. I would try placing the pot on its side and then placing some old rags or towels that were heavily soaked in the solution over the outside of the pot. Don't wring them out, make sure they are good and soggy. Leave for the solution to soak in and then see if the stains / deposits wipe off afterwards. You might have to repeat the process a few times but it will probably work. Goodluck!
@plantwithmatt thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, it's above waist height and extremely heavy so can't move on its side.
@@MichaelCutler-rx1xe A monster of a pot huh? I would say you have two options. Firstly is to spray the vinegar solution onto it and you might have to spray many times as its going to evaporate quickly. The second is to wrap it with the soggy towels or press them up against it, one part / area at a time. You may have to use thick string or even heavy duty cling-film to hold the towels in place. You can get thick plastic for wrapping from a packaging supply company as its used to wrap up boxes on pallets.
@plantwithmatt that's very useful advice, we will try that accordingly. Many thanks!
Good information
Thanks!

I don't find these plants easy at all.
I think all gardeners have a few plants that they find difficult that many others find easy to grow. Its one of the quirks of gardening! There is always something to challenge us.
@@plantwithmatt Yes, and break our pockets.
I'm working on a railway site and the amount of bees on these is unbelievable I've just found out they are concreting the whole site so I dug a few up fetched the fitch home they have just flowered got some small bees loving these never realised different plants fir different bees short feeders long feeders.
Thanks for sharing your story. These are great plants for bees and you're quite right about certain plant varieties being favoured by specific bee species.
@@plantwithmatt thanks I noticed in your comments if I leave the seeds on the plants or remove them I can control there spread I like to keep the lower end of the garden near my gym for wild flowers will these spread on rhe lawn or will stay in the borders my garden is around 140 feet long. Thanks
@@jeffrob5791 The seeds will fall quite close to the plants rather than getting blown around as they are quite large, so they don't spread far in a single season. But the easiest thing to do is to cut them off as the pods start to ripen. Its not as fiddly or time consuming as it may sound as the pods are produced in clusters so its quite easy to remove them. Then in spring you can check the ground for seedlings. They are distinctive in appearance and can easily be spotted and pulled up.
@@plantwithmatt thank you for the information
I luv luv so different thks for sharing
These trees do not stay 'a small growing tree' They have a few drawbacks, so do your research. They're wild-growing everywhere here in the Mid Ohio & Kanawha Valleys.
Stunning!
I purchased 7 tubers and planted them over a month ago and so far NOTHING.
Sadly, far too many of the tubers being sold by bulb merchants are dead. They are stored too long, and too dry and completely dry up. I'd suggest digging each tuber up and see if there is any sign of root growth or a shoot developing. If no roots or shoot emerging, scrape the outer skin and and take a small nick out of the tuber with a sharp knife. It should be cream in colour and quite firm, something like the flesh of an apple. If its dry, spongy and brown then the tuber is dead. If any tubers are the right colour, they will need a fair deal of heat to get them started. Place in a greenhouse if you have one or in the warmest spot you can find such as a south facing window in direct sun or even an airing cupboard or close to a hot water boiler / tank. The tubers do not mind direct sun and they do not need light to sprout. Keep them just moist (but not soaking wet) at all times and check for sprouting every few days. I hope you have some that are still viable!
@@plantwithmatt Thanks, I am going to check each one today. We have 90 degree heat and I do keep them WET so will see if they are alive, or not.
What type of soil is best for it to grow
Any multi-purpose compost that is free draining can be used. I personally prefer multi-purpose composts that have soil (loam) added as soil based composts don't dry out as quickly as soil-less types.
Very informative video. Thank you.
Thanks! I'm glad it was helpful.
Perfect
Many people report problems breaking dormancy with Colocasias bought as dormant tubers. The reason (sadly) is that most of the tubers are dead when planted as they have completely dried out during too many months of storage overwinter at the bulb sellers. I have received several myself this year that were ordered from reputable suppliers but were completely desiccated and dead upon arrival. I am in the process of growing several Colocasias from tubers this summer so will bring you some new Colocasia videos in the autumn of 2024 that will show you what live tubers look like and how to grow them in cooler climates.
Nice plants flowers, new subscribe. Good luck bro
Thankyou and thanks for subscribing too!
Very nice plants I like the pink flowers. Hard to fine it in here . Good luck bro
Thanks 👍
I had one pot with this white stains on it from minerals in the water. Should I let water sit for a day to maybe let the minerals disburse, or should I boil water and use the cooled water?
If your water contains minerals it won't make any difference if you boil the water or let it sit -unfortunately. The only thing you can do is soak the pots in vinegar when the mineral build-up gets heavy. That will probably mean that you will need to clean the pots using this method, more than once per season.
Foarte frumoasa floare O am si eu si imi place mult Multumim pentru video
