This was one of the earlier episodes. The first thing that struck me is how fast the actors spoke when delivering their lines. I think they gradually slowed down as the series, followed later by Yes Prime Minister, progressed. It needed to be a bit slower for the audience to catch all the jokes.
@Vincent I don’t know a national integrated database of the public’s information feels surprisingly relevant especially considering the controversies surrounding the UK care data scheme and their wider relevance for biomedical research from as recent as 2015.
I'm currently re-reading my aunt's hardback copy of Yes Minister. Must be the seventh or eighth time. I'm also lucky enough to have watched both shows in three countries. When enacted, the humour hits so much quicker and is so much ticklier, what with the actors' expressions and all.
I stumbled across a random comment elsewhere about this magnificent show and this is my first viewing. Very impressed! This is close to what we have in the U.S. but, we can waste more money AND screw over the workers at the same time.
Yes, change the playback speed to .75. Also, the screen ratio should be reduced, as mentioned, and the canned laughter made me stop watching what should have been an enjoyable show bu alas, t not so. I will watch something else.
Speed and ratio are to get around copyright. As for the laughter, this was filmed before a live audience. However the laugh track may sometimes be taken from a different take. Though sometimes you can tell it's from the take that made the edit because of the timing as they wait for the laughter to stop before finishing a line,
Truly a timeless TV series. Still see everything happening today as it did back then. At least back then they were more competent at coving up their incompetentcy
Seeing Hacker loose his mind when Humphry tells him the long list of reasons as to why the staff are there, all the while ignoring that actually the real reason as to why there is no actual medical staff at the hospital is because of decisions made by other departments which he has no direct control over because the thought of him not being in control terrified him, is quite entertaining. He is like an ignorant glory-addicted child: he doesn't want to accept that he just doesn't want to take the time and effort to understand why the hospital isn't opened he only cares about what the simple-minded popular people who criticise him say, and so he stamps his feet in impatience and when it all comes back to bite him later on he panics.
I dimly remember reading that John Cleese was sounded out to play Humphrey. Back then, in my teens, I was a fan of Terry Thomas and thought that he too would have made a great Humphrey. And Norman Wisdom as Hacker? Delicious!
Hi everyone.Could someone please upload season 1 episode 4 , Titled BIG BROTHER
The Chauffer, fails to look into the rear view mirror!

This was a great comedy show back then, it's not funny any more.
Oh yes, it is funny. Everyone allowed their opinion, but you are wrong.
@@henkmagnetic3103 My comment was not to say it is not funny, but that it is too close to reality to be funny now.
This show was predictive, given the number of refugees turning up on our shores. The UK the worlds largest lifeboat
Comedy which truly reflects reality and still so relevant today 2024. Super ingenious script writers and great acting
Government service seems to be based around being helpfully unhelpful 😅
It is relevant even today. This us how govt functions, scoring few brownie points, here and there.
It started as a comedy and decades later it turned out to be a documentary
Perfect program of how the NHS is being run now. 2024.

No, the NHS had money back then.
@ What money back to them?
Max personal development without losses is a goal.
audio is fucked and isn't the full video image.
Please put up the complete episodes!!!!
Anthony Jay. A master at script wrighting.
Apparently American democrats looked at this and thought it was a roadmap, not satire.

0.75
His face at 2:31. Priceless
HOW CAN I FIND THIS SERIES PLEASE TELL ME
Brilliant!
Perfect comedy, much of which is still frighteningly relevant. Sir Humphrey’s speeches highlighted the brilliance of Sir Nigel Hawthorne.
It's not relevant to today...it was relevant then and for the history of any and every government that ever was? Never studied history????

Yes, Minister gave me my first squirting experience!
Great show.
Shame half the picture was missing!
Still a better healthcare system than what we Americans have…
Administrative staff and no doctors and nurses no patients but don't worry about it😂😂😂 administration is more important than healing the sick😅😅
I don't mind them working together, but I hate it when Hacker wins.
At 4:15 approx: "How are we supposed to govern responsibly if backbenchers get all the facts?"
Fantastic documentary.....
Brilliant!
Read the BBC Paperback book of Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister ( second hand) I reread it all the time. Useful indeed in New Zealand

We’ve come a long way since the 80s.

the problem with government? Humphrey.... lol
The award for most hygienic hospital reminds me of a cheese shop uncontaminated by cheese.

It's lucky that I am listening to this while playing PC games, instead of watching. I need to slow the speed down, though. {:o:O:}
My dad used to love this show along with Fawlty Towers! A nostalgic trip down memory lane! :)

Memory??? Also a good impression of what seems to be going on right now! Everybody 26:11 doing their very best, which is true!
Outstanding comedy. a pity it's been stretched to fit the 16:9 ratio, it's a lot better in the original 4:3 format.
Stretching the format and playing at a higher speed is a common sleazy trick to avoid copyright strikes.
Is that why Humphrey and Bernard seem to be talking so much faster and higher pitch voices. It just seems weird.
Thank you so much!
Ah yes, compassionate
Funny as it is its the thought that Governments around the Globe work like we see here that is crinchworthy.....
Classic Victorian government with Sir Dan Andrews 🤪
Thank you! Xxx
You don't speed up Yes Minister, you just ruin the comedic timing. Fool.
This is why you play it at 0.75 🤯
Helps to get around copyright detection.
One of the most realistic episode of the series
"I didn't get where I am today by opening hospitals for the benefit of patients!". CJ!
LOL. I have been watching Reginald Perrin lately.
Made In The BBC Classics.
what's with the shooting angles. I feel like I am missing half the screen
I think some was cut off, probably to help get around copyright or just a bad upload. The original wasn't like this
