    Beginner here, I wanted to stain my floor black as I did i paint it on and let it dry without wiping (i had no clue what I was doing) now the whole floor is pure back which is nice but sticky ish, how should I go about it now, re sand floor or just just paint gloss over but I'm afraid gloss will melt the stain off 😂 thank you

      @@sundayyim7033 I'd hit a test sticky spot with some more stain and then wipe it up with a dry towel to see how it looks under your overapplied stain. If you like it, id clean the rest of the floor with more stain and wipe dry, then polyurethane over it once its dry. If you dont like it and its not dark enough, you could try sanding with a higher grit in a test spot, stain black again and wipe dry, should be darker than before. I wouldnt paint or polyurethane anything over the sticky spots since the paint/poly wont be able to adhere to the sticky spots and will chip off quickly. Hope this helps!

    Have you ever tried using mineral spirits? I'm in the situation I don't want to use more stain because I don't want it getting darker. I'm not sure if mineral spirits would remove too much or if it would be ok as long as I don't use too much. I may have to intentionally repeat the problem on a sample piece to test the theory.

    • @jbsdiygarage
      @jbsdiygarage 2 місяці тому

      @@firehead1221 I havent tried using mineral spirits but I could see it maybe making the piece a little lighter. You can use what it says on the can for cleanup, or the stain. In theory, if its sticky/tacky, its because no more pigment can be absorbed into the wood and pigment is sitting on top of the wood, so using more stain shouldnt actually darken the piece, especially if you wipe it dry right away. I would say youre probably safer using more stain to clean it rather than mineral spirits which might lighten the piece due to not having any pigment. Please let us know which route you went and how it turned out! 🤘

    Can this pump be used to completely suck out a septic tank and portable toilet? For example, if air gets inside during the last drops of water, it runs dry afterward to make things clean and dry. The client checks after me to ensure the job is done perfectly, so I need a pump like this that can completely clean a 200L toilet reservoir. Thanks

We used the mineral spirits like you recommended and reapplied the wood stain. This was last night and the table is still tacky but not as much this time. I’m wondering if we didn’t leave enough time in between the mineral spirits and the stain we reapplied. I dont know what to do. I don’t want to sand it again. So do you think I didn’t leave enough time or is it possibly something else? Please help me

    • @jbsdiygarage
      @jbsdiygarage 5 місяців тому

      If you applied stain directly on top of paint, theres no where for the pigments to seep into the wood and allow the stain to dry. You'd be better off removing all of the stain with mineral spirits and then using a all-in-one polyshades mixture that has stain pigments mixed in with polyurethane so the stain/poly mixture will sit on top of the paint. Hope this helps!
