Someone brought me a whitetail deer shoulder mount that another taxidermist did for them and botch jobbed it. They made the haul down to me and open it up to find what I expected. Not properly tanned or mounted. I will remount this deer and bring it back to life. @carolinabushwacker @facebook/carolinabushwackertaxidermy @instagram

    Wouldn't that much salt alone be enough to essentially tan the hide? Serious question as I honestly have no clue lol I salted a squirrel hide 1 time and it still to this day has all of its hair and my kids play with it all the time. But that's literally the extent of my knowledge lol

    Back in the late 60s and early 70s . My dad took a mail course on this and got his diploma and things did not worked out with family , I use to watch him doing it and then he taught me . After I sign up delay entry to go in the navy he ask me if I would be interested to get into it with him. I said I would of but I am going into the navy . After I got out I started to practice it again and got my state and Fed lic. I got the Fed by use of my dad's diploma . Thing is my mom did not like the idea of people to show up at the house, so I just end up doing it for myself . Then I move to a different state then I was in . and looked into if it would be worth to do it for work , after finding out how many there is in the area. Also talked with my CO . I gave up on it . I just do it for myself . Just like do ADC work of trapping . It was not worth it since many did not want to pay thinking you could make on the furs. When out of season they are junk. I just stick with fur trapping as a hobby and taxidermy for myself . Oh by the way. I used what my dad had for tools and supplies. You gave very sound advice. Just wanted to give my story out for what some might not think about .

    I got my first buck that I deemed worth stuffing this year. A 190lb SC 7 pointer. I chose a right turn just because of where I'm putting it on the wall but I had been wondering if I should have went with a left turn because his right horn was the bigger one. Now that I've watched your video I feel better about the right turn because I already thought it will look better on my wall, and an actual SC taxidermist is recommending turning it the way I chose. I just can't wait to get him back from the taxidermist now.

    About 15 years ago, I found myself unemployed after retiring from a local city government in Animal Control. I loved the animals part of the job, but the citizens stresses forced me out. I had been shot at, spit on, bled on, peed on, crapped on, vomited on and anything else you can imagine. Anyway, I was hard of hearing and had to use state services to help me find work and/or education. With my background, the consultant I used tried talking me into taxidermy. I mulled around and thought about it, but after a while I decided not to do it, I ended up in computer technology. What turned me off was, I looked at it as an art. I'm not artistic, I have no artistic imagination and I have no artistic skills. I love the work of taxidermists, but I know I don't have what it would take to be one. I love hunting and fishing, I love wildlife, I love how honoring wildlife with taxidermy is possible. I just can't see myself doing it. I'm glad I took the road I did, and while I miss working with animals, I don't miss it enough to have risked everything to be an artist!! Great video, thanks for sharing. You've earned a subscriber!

    • @carolinabushwacker
      @carolinabushwacker 2 місяці тому
