Let's Play Chainmail Solo! Session 5 [Adventure Crafting]
It's time for old school adventure! In this series, we're using the acclaimed Mythic GM Emulator 2e to run a completely solo Original D&D campaign using Chainmail for combat!
Join me in the random generation and exploration of a high fantasy hexcrawl through Westmoor, a highland frontier where roughneck settlements work hard to hew resources from an unforgiving wilderness!
In the fifth session we use the Adventure Crafter to generate opening drama before kicking off the first scene of the campaign! Adventure in Westmoor begins here!

    Very entertaining, thank you. Agree with the other comment about being tough on your ‘players’ with the rolling to equip them, but still worked out well using hauberk. On the pike though that one of the characters is equiped with, the description that you gave about what you were visualising sounded more like a halberd or pollaxe rather than a 16ft long spear? When you were reading the rules for the pike it sounded like you were surprised at the mechanics, as though it wasn’t what you had in mind? Mind you, I’m 15 mins from the end so could be way off :)

    I love the Star Wars inspired ideas. I always wanted to find a way to use Destiny Points in solo play, one of my favorite mechanics in Star Wars RPG. Speaking of alignment, you should check out Dragon Magazine 106, it talks about True Neutral Paladins called Paramanders. They manipulate and sometimes even hunt down beings of extreme alignment convictions.

    I just found your channel and am finding it very fun and inspiring! 😊 Here is my interpretation of this neutral and balanced "force" revered by the Lonely Knights as well as the Gods of Westmoor: The Lonely Knights do not follow either of the gods that you have established but rather see these entities as "faces" of a single overarching being, family, or even romantic couple (though this might step on the toes of monotheism in this world). I think this makes sense because both gods have military and war as core tenets, yet they are not in "open conflict" (at least at the beginning of the campaign.) The Lonely Knights are naturally superior warriors because they are blessed by both the brutal, animalistic, and masculine face as well as the civilized, cosmic, and feminine one. The Gods, by virtue of having monotheistic followers, are jealous ones, they don't want to work together. In a world ruled over by two war gods, one might expect neverending bloodshed and brutality. However, because the Lawful concept of war is of mighty heroes and well-regimented armies marching in triumph down city streets strewn with roses toward honorable battles, and the Chaotic concept of war is of blood-stained men crawling in desperation through smoke and mud knowing only that they must kill or be killed. These gods, and their followers, know how messy war is: it can't possibly be only chaos or there would be no armies, likewise, it couldn't be only order or it would be chess. Both gods fight the unwinnable war against war done in the wrong way. The Lonely Knights are not exactly religious, they are special in some way, and they act alone or as master and squire. Here are some of my thoughts on this: In the case that the knights are blessed by both gods somehow maybe this is an oversight, the gods independently "grant their blessing" to many humanoids. This might normally be why individuals have the capacity to become clerics. However, when both Chaos and Law lay claim to the same individual they become something even more special. - Maybe Lonely Knights are not religious because it would draw attention to themselves and the gods would be angry with their mistake. - Maybe they are not religious because they lose their power if they choose a favorite - Maybe they act alone because their "aura" draws the attention of the gods, once they are trained even two knights acting together for too long can damage the balance they hope to maintain. - Maybe they only have one main base because that location is warded and holy in some way, and the gods are either not aware, or ok with Lone Knights interacting and working together there. Maybe it is a neutral zone for others as well, where treaties are signed, and peace talks are held. - Maybe they are not religious because they each have a very individual view of things, to maintain balance the knights can't fully align with one another. - Maybe the gods both bless these knights knowingly. They both value combat and perhaps the "lone warrior" is something they can both get behind. To answer the question that you actually asked 😂 here are a few ideas: The Covenant, The Pact, or The Seal (if they draw the power from an agreement between the gods, an agreement made individually with both Gods, or the commitment of the Order of the Lonely Knights to maintain balance.) The Way, The Cosmic Blade, Tooth and Claw, The Proven Form (Or another name of a special fighting style mastered only by Lonely Knights) Grey Space, Iron Body, Third Eye, The Quiet Thing, Two-Headed Beast, The All Soul, Death, Nothing (or another name for a unified force with faces that present as the Gods) The Four Winds, Deep Waters, The Forest, The Great Bear (A natural, neutral force of nature which they relate to) The Road of Blood, The Veins of the World, Fate, The Eternal Truth (A name for the path that they follow or their inevitable end) Sorry about the babbling, and hope you find this useful and interesting. I'm excited to see where this world goes!

    I somehow totally missed the Fate Check when looking at MGME -- it seems nice. I'm excited to see more of it. I've been using a different oracle because of the lack of speed of MGME (one that still has chaos and random events), but it seems like once you internalize the modifiers and results, the fate check would be pretty fast.

    I really enjoyed these episodes! This is super great solo content!! I have two questions and a comment though. 1: where is the background picture from? (I like the vibe) 2: Why are you being so hard on the characters. You roll up armor and weapon due to the current chaos factor, when they probably would have bought armor and weapons during there preparation, where I think the chaos factor was higher, thus more likely of a yes... :D Comment: Have you considered whether perhaps you are doing "too many" Mythic rolls. Couldn't you perhaps, as the narrator, also put on the GM hat, instead of letting Mythic handle "everything", especially in situations where logic would supersede? :D - Keep it up, I love your videos!

    I've been following this series and enjoying. I'm a fledgling solo roleplayer, both learning how play tabletop rpgs and doing it solo. I've seen your explanation about the Fluid Scenes but I can't still come around the concept. Do you just make a question and consider it a Scene Question just to end a scene?

    • @TheLonelyDungeoneer
      @TheLonelyDungeoneer 4 місяці тому

      I know it's been confusing because all of the scenes that cut between characters are more like your typical scenes than fluid scenes. With a fluid scene you reach a Fate Question that you believe is important to the narrative and can divide the adventure into another scene, and making that a Scene Question instead. An example could be arriving at a dungeon and asking, is the entrance being guarded? That can tell you something about how the next scene will go, and it pretty clearly indicates a transition into a scene spent delving. My apologies for making this confusing! I hope to give more clear examples in coming episodes :)

      @@TheLonelyDungeoneer no need to apologize. That example you provided made much more sense to me now. Now I need to see how I can apply that to pre made adventures. Thanks.

    I really enjoy your playstyle and I find it to be the best way to play solo, considering the situation and asking interesting questions, thank you!

    I'm really interested in the Mythic DM emulator. Is there a actual app version or is it only in print currently?

      There is an app, but it's currently being discontinued and then replaced! There are computer based tools as well, along with Mythic cards that are pretty fun!
