    Jason got into a groove there towards the end…and it brought the whole band into the groove with him. So cool to see them all play off and with each other so smoothly. FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE!!!

    I always liked that theme. Those days, we took for granted there'd even be a bridge; now you're lucky if a show has 4 bars of music if it has a theme at all

    Excellent commentary. You are right again. Your brother did the work. He spent a lot of time in all kinds of schools to educate kids about Jazz and America is better for it. Besides you and he, who else is doing this important work today? We need to get busy.🙂

    At best Laufey has taken some aspects jazz or more accurately basa nova and simplified it to pop. Laufey essentially bad mouthing the jazz community as "gate keepers" should be a red flag, jazz is clearly available if people don't like it that really doesn't matter. The sad thing is most people don't have a clue what jazz is and never will because Laufey and Kenny are being presented as jazz. An article came across my feed the other day with a headline exclaiming Laufey bringing jazz and classical to the masses. The people that created and developed this great music were treated bad enough, it is sad their legacies will be lost to a rich white guy and an Icelandic person.

    • @JasonMarsalis
      @JasonMarsalis 4 місяці тому

      First, Laufey doesn’t come from the jazz community at all. Her gatekeeping comment comes from the mainstream view of the music which is that kids don’t like it. The music is not marketed to young people at all, except music students (easy money). As for the legacy of our ancestors, all we can do is expose people one day at a time.

    Excellent breakdown Jason. An important semantical distinction could be emphasized regarding “bringing back jazz”. The jazz styles of music that have never ‘left’ may be getting some new attention from new listeners. Hence, it is actually more accurate for us to illustrate that it is a matter of marketing and popularity, as you have done so well here. Perhaps others would see the historic arch more readily when we say ‘bringing back the popularity of jazz-like music’.

    Lirycs: Es war einmal in ei'm kleinen Städtchen, da Lebte ein Mädchen namens Barbara Und diese Barbara war im ganzen Land Für ihren abartig guten Rhabarberkuchen bekannt Ja, man konnte sagen, dass Barbaras Rhabarberkuchen ohne Wenn und Aber gar Eine gradezu magische Erfahrung war Aberakadabera Tja, dieser Kuchen war grade zu bombastisch Und die Nachfrage danach erstarke drastisch Barbara eröffnete noch im selben Jahr Eine Bar und nannte sie "Barbaras Rhabarberbar" In der Stadt gab es auch ein paar Barbaren Die hatten von Barbaras Rhabarberbar erfahren Und da sie fort an jeden Tag bei Barbara waren Nannte man sie bald die "Rhabarberbar-Barbaren" In den Folgejahren ließen die Barbaren Nach und nach ihr barbarisches Gebaren fahren Sie waren, behauptete Barbara Fast noch sympathischer als Barpapapa Aber die Barbaren waren stark behaart Und hatten alle einen struppigen Barbarenbart (gar nicht apart) Daraufhin schickte Barbara ihre Barbarenfreunde zum Barbarenbartbarbier Der frisierte den Barbaren sogar den ganzen Kopf In seinem Barbarenbartbarbierbarbershop Er war zwar ein fürchterlicher Laberkopp Aber der Bart war danach total tipptopp Darauf luden die Barbaren ihren Bartbarbier fein Nach getaner Arbeit noch in die Rhabarberbar ein Da tranken sie dann gemeinsam an der Bar noch 'n Bier Die Rhabarberbar-Barbaren und der Bartbarbier Und aßen dazu bar jeder Barbarei Ein Stück Rhabarberkuchen, ich glaub, es war'n zwei Ja, da wurden sogar ganz harte Männer nahbar Und das alles dank Barbaras Rhabarber Drei Barbaren und der Bartbarbier Saßen eines Abends an der Bar bei 'nem Bier Da kam die Polizei: "Ja, wo wart denn ihr?" In a small village there once lived a girl with the name Barbara. Barbara was known in the entire area for her excellent rhubarb pie. Because everyone liked eating Barbara’s rhubarb pie so much, they called her Rhubarb Barbara. Rhubarb Barbara soon realized that she could make money with her rhubarb pie. Therefore she opened a bar: The Rhubarb Barbara Bar. Of course there were soon regular customers in the Rhubarb Barbara Bar. The most famous among them, three barbarians, came so often to the Rhubarb Barbara Bar in order to eat of Rhubarb Barbaras rhubarb pie, that they soon were called the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians. The Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians had wonderful thick beards. When the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians wanted to tend to their Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian beards, they went to the barber. The only barber who could work on a Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian beard of course wanted to highlight that and named himself the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber. The Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber knew from the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians about Rhubarb Barbara’s marvelous rhubarb pie and always drank a beer with it that he lovingly called Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber Beer. The Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber Beer could only be purchased at a very special bar. The saleswoman of the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber Bier at the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber Bier Bar was called Bärbel. After pruning the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beards, the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber mostly with the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians went to the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber Bier Bar to Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber Bier Bar Bärbel in order to take her along to the Rhubarb Barbara Bar in order to eat some of Rhubarb Barbara’s superb rhubarb pie. Cheers.

    In einem kleinen Dorf wohnte einst ein Mädchen mit dem Namen Barbara. Barbara war in der ganzen Gegend für ihren ausgezeichneten Rhabarberkuchen bekannt. Da jeder so gerne Barbaras Rhabarberkuchen aß, nannte man sie Rhabarberbarbara. Rhabarberbarbara merkte bald, dass sie mit ihrem Rhabarberkuchen Geld verdienen könnte. Daher eröffnete sie eine Bar: Die Rhabarberbarbarabar. Natürlich gab es in der Rhabarberbarbarabar bald Stammkunden. Die bekanntesten unter Ihnen, drei Barbaren, kamen so oft in die Rhabarberbarbarabar um von Rhabarberbarbaras Rhabarberkuchen zu essen, dass man sie kurz die Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbaren nannte. Die Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbaren hatten wunderschöne dichte Bärte. Wenn die Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbaren ihren Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbart pflegten, gingen sie zum Barbier. Der einzige Barbier, der einen Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbart bearbeiten konnte, wollte das natürlich betonen und nannte sich Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbier. Der Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbier kannte von den Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbaren Rhabarberbarbaras herlichen Rhabarberkuchen und trank dazu immer ein Bier, das er liebevoll Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbierbier nannte. Das Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbierbier konnte man nur an einer ganz bestimmten Bar kaufen. Die Verkäuferin des Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbierbieres an der Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbierbierbar hieß Bärbel. Nach dem Stutzen des Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbarts ging der Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbier meist mit den Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbaren in die Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbierbierbar zu Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbierbierbarbärbel um sie mit zur Rhabarberbarbarabar zu nehmen um etwas von Rhabarberbarbaras herrlichem Rhabarberkuchen zu essen und ein Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbierbier anzustoßen. Prost.
