As a PGA member myself, I see people blah, blah blah teaching golfers things they can't do not what they can do. Corey might not be physically able to keep the arm straight. I've broken my wrist in 3 places, thumb double jointed and my arms are short is impossible for me to keep my arm straight.

Jack was later. So was Tom. But both of them lifted the left heel. Why, I wonder, do today's media and instructors pay so little attention to these two greats?

Only Hogan fanboys critique the flying right elbow. Just because Mr Hogan said something at some stage in the past, does not mean he was correct, as you noted - Mr Nicklaus and Mr Couples would disagree.

Percy Boomer spoke of swinging in a barrel. I now suggest that the so call barrel is the rolling rib cage of our bent chest. So let the good times roll. Let your arms and hands extend as you swing your club back and forth in a rolling barrel. Stay inside your golf posture and never chase after the ball. Your rolling barrel will turn your body approximately as well; as it creates the centrifugal force for your club head to smash directly through your ball. Bringing you up to your glorious finish. Bobby Jones as we see did not stay inside the barrel; however he did turn his barrel rib cage in one direction then the other direction. But more importantly he said he started his upswing with the twitch of his right hip and his down swing with a pull of his lead hip. At 77 the twitch&pull is my only swing thought and I’m killing it better today than in my younger days. Cheers. 🥂 So try the Twitch and Pull Golf Swing. And Amaze yourself. Let me know what you think. DON’t WORRY:😩SWING HAPPY 😀

Quite a modern swing apart from left knee action on backswing. K position at address, one piece takeaway which was very unusual back then, lower body starting downswing and head kept very still. A controlled roll release too. The only thing you would teach him now would be to limit his knee action in the swing. His plane just before impact isn't ideal so I would change him a bit on that, his grip might have something to do with that though so maybe do something about that. Unbelievable really that he had such an advanced technique in 1913!!!! Your description of his swing is excellent, you know your stuff sir!

When you watch Bobby Jones you can see that no matter who you watch today they are all doing the same things, even the long drive guys. It’s tempo and using the body to get the distance. He always said that the key is to keep relaxed and start the swing with the left side. I have been doing his swing for years and it’s effortless. But like him I have to make sure that I hinge my wrists because when you do a lazy relaxed swing you can forget that. And as he says, that’s your stinger and that’s how you get your distance. Bobby is the best golfer of all time. I don’t think anyone else can compare. Especially when you think about when you played. They didn’t have the technology we have and they didn’t have a player mark their ball. They had to play a jump shot over the opponents ball. Not too mention he had to make his own clubs. He was still hitting the ball 300yrds. I would like to see the guys today play with that equipment and on those courses with the old rules. I would be surprised if they could break par .

He played with a wood shafted club. They are a bit whippy and tend to promote a fade/slice. The strong grip compensates for that.

    1. Francis Ouimet is one of my all-time heroes. 2. wearing suits and ties to play golf might be a bit much (no idea how one does that), but way better than a lot of the crappy stuff I see golfers at my local courses wearing these days.

Had the phenomenon of Bobby Jones not existed, Francis Ouimet would have been historys greatest amateur. Just a gorgeous efficient move. Particularly, the tip of his toe touching the ground, exactly like Jones. Ouimet was clearly a natural with great insight into the game. Looking at this glorious motion, it is suddenly less surprising that he shocked the world at Brookline in 1913.

He looks like a pro golfer at address and I think he had a better swing than Bobby Jones. Similar style of course. He had a better, more solid takeaway. Left arm and shaft in line at address so no unnecessary wrist action to start the swing or leaving the clubhead behind. I think if he had kept his left heel down a bit more at the top and kept his right foot square to the target instead of being turned out, he could have been an all time great. Of course the first world war got in his way. Lovely swing! I think he may have taken the club away with his left arm. I actually think Sam Snead did too.
