My name is Chris Dow and my wife and I live, work and travel full time in our RV - a 2020 Grand Design Momentum 397TH fifth wheel toy hauler.
Before becoming full time RVers, I had no idea how many people were interested in doing the same! I’d never thought of living in an RV until the day we actually went to a dealership to look at rigs. But every time I told someone what we were planning on doing, “I’ve considered that…” or “I’d like to do that one day…” was the common response.
With that in mind (and also the realization that pulling this off was going to take a huge amount of research and planning) I decided to document the entire journey.
My plan for this channel is to release my experiences chronologically for anyone thinking of doing something similar. From how-tos and tutorials to reviews, tips and my thoughts on RV life.
I hope to create videos that are informative, helpful and maybe even a little inspiring :)
Here's to making every trip count!

I really enjoyed the video. I am adding the x-factor kit a alltkek 4000 to my rig. I didn’t think about the protective coating but I think I’ll do that too. Thanks.
@@OurRollingVoyageORV You’re very welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
I have the same Geo but the LSI version! I love this little guys!
@@XperiaVideosCR Nice! They’re a blast!
Can you give a review of the product since your install? Thanks
@@scottvann6243 Hey there Scott. Sure! We still have the door installed to this day and nothing has changed. It still looks and performs just as well as when we first put it in. Totally happy with the performance, look and durability!
My Jayco Jayflight came installed with double drop down steps, probably Lippert since that’s what the door is. I was considering replacing them with the triple steps as the double are hard on my knees, but based on a couple of the comments it seems the distance between the steps is the same. If that’s the case I’d suggest a triple step with the steps closer together. And since you said they’ll be reading these, on a different issue/product, could they make a pet defender for the smaller space in the middle of the screen door where the slide opens for the entry door handle? Or better yet, why don’t the doors come with pet screen installed? I’d be willing to pay a little more for that. Additionally, replacement window screens, again with pet screens instead of the regular would be awesome, instead of my having to replace the screen in the frames myself. I actually think that’s a money making opportunity being missed. A lot of RVers, particularly full timers like me, have pets. And my cat doesn’t tear the screen; she pulls it out of one corner of the frame.
What was the out the door price on that unit great video
@@moriorinvictus6522 MSRP with all options back in 2019 was $133k - was able to negotiate 30% off so right around $93k out the door.
Thanks was asking we have a 2021 momentum 381 that we just found out by the dealer it has major frame flex and grand design sent the welders to try and fix it ..they supposedly just completed the work but we are concerned now so we may just trade in and get something else
@@moriorinvictus6522 Sure thing!

@@michaelnavarrette2079 Interesting. Might want to check the connections. Ours doesn’t leak.

the door jamb plates are putting my door in a bind and not letting it close all the way at the bottom, do I need to put indents in the screen door to allow for the thickness of the door jamb plates on the morryde steps. Thanks
@@BrianSnodgrass-tk1co No, you shouldn’t have to modify your screen door. Are you certain the jamb plate is installed correctly? It should definitely fit under your existing doors.
I have this exact brand and it’s peeling up on the head and it’s only two years old😢 it’s only been used four times
@@peggymcdonnell1379 Sorry to hear that! You have Thomas Payne?
Looks like the steps are designed for a trailer. Do they make something for a Class A motorhome with a single door?
@@jerryshrum18 Yes these are for trailers. I’ve never had a Class A so I’m not familiar with those options. But I did quickly Google “class a rv steps” and saw a few options.
Thanks for the video! I'm wondering how you power the fridge? For example how many batteries did you add, what size inverter are you using, how many solar panels? Thanks.
You’re welcome! I have a 300ah Battle Born battery bank with a MultiPlus and no solar. The batteries will power the fridge alone for multiple days so plenty for a travel day.
RV furniture peels because just like every other component of an RV, the cheapest possible option is used (even if the results are inevitable premature failure or completely improper installs of systems)
@@s.d.g.global4582 oof
Looking to swap my Norcold because it uses 650W constantly to cool. Residential fridges use around 120W. Tired of paying electricity for 3 AC units, when I only have two. Unplugging my RV fridge, and putting a residential one outside the RV (very inconvenient) saved almost $300 a month at the RV park electric prices. Your video has showed me exactly how to do it, what to look for and expect, when I rip this one out. Appreciate your thoroughness!
@@reinman2002 That’s a big deal! Glad to hear the video was helpful :) Good luck with your swap!
You said the door/screen keeps out most of the bugs. Do some bugs get through??
Some bugs always get through somewhere in an RV haha.
Well this is exactly what I was looking for. I have that same company’s box (minus the fuel box option) so I’m happy to see this is the one that’ll work best

My 93“ 2019 Thomas Payne oem 3 section couch recliner just started peeling, so time for replacement. They no longer make the extended center section my couch has so Im leaning towards a lippert 4 section replacement using seismic ends and 2 heritage center sections. It should come out to be 98". I'm 6'2" so your video on lippert being more comfortable for big people is very helpful, thanks for that. Searching the internet it looks like the peeling problems were with the last generation of fabric. Since this was posted a year ago, do you have any feedback on how the furniture is holding up? Are you still happy with the new furniture you installed?
@@CMunkeey Glad you found the video helpful! So far the material is holding up well, although our first set seemed to be holding well too, until it suddenly started peeling all at once. But I can say so far so good!
I know, right?
@@kristybristow-smith8876 Right?
When you park off on your own it’s called parking on an island and makes your car more susceptible to break ins
@@mege.7222 Uhhhhh… that still doesn’t explain this
Absolutely!! Drives me nuts!!
🥜
Lets see. You go to the store, miat peopke want to park as close to the door as they can. If there is only 1 car, they park closest to the door. When the second car arrives, they will park in the next closest spot. Do you think that next closest spot will be next to the 1st closest spot or on the other side of the parking lot?
@@Zigmaz0309 Bro, this happens regardless of where you park. I often park far away from the door to be alone, and this still happens.
Because people are stupid and like banging doors into others cars.
@@this.handle.is.alreadytaken I believe you
What is the problem ?
@@vincentcrisp1 I need space. Get off my neck.
MOST people are followers and they do it subconsciously. Its the same with a line, people will start lining up behind someone who is stopped.
@@Shy-k1t Thoughtless!
When people stand in line, don't you go stand behind the last person? Common sense doesn't seem.so common anymore..
This is America bro. Way too many open parking spots. No need to fill in the line.
@AroundTheSunWeGo people also park close to other cars, just to do damage and steal, using the car to block off the bad deed being done.
Pathetic!
I know right! It's so annoying isn't it!
@@operator0017 🤦♂️
Biological need to not feel alone ... saftey in numbers but really a car jacker can hide between the cars now😂😂
@@markymark5933 Good point lol
No my friend it's because there's a lot of brainwashed fucking liberals in the world right now😅
It's a psychological thing. It's because of our primal instincts. There is safety in numbers. People and animals feel safer in numbers. Just like at a restaurant there could only be 1 occupied table in the whole restaurant and people will always sit in the same area
That literally just happened at a restaurant the other day! Haha
Fuck that. I try to leave a space on both sides of me
Its easier to notice and therefore stare at the 1 car in an empty parking lot, than it is to star at an empty space on the opposite side and ignore the very sparkly and shiny. And you (hypthetically) look before you steer. Antidote in Reply.
🤔
I just park where the shade is going to be at the time that I have to leave .
@@NeelsVisser-w9z Lol
Birds flock together...
Ew
A mix of herd mentality and being orderly, a car by itself is a seed-point to start a parking row. Also, the car alone in a corner under tree in a hotel parking lot is the car that's gonna have it's windows smashed in overnight. I work at a hotel, I've seen it happen
@@Cool_Story_Bruh ua-cam.com/users/shortsYzrRvEWvvrY?si=J9qyjrDTfhfL6g_p
I agree, cool story.
There are numerous reasons why it could be considered better to park next to others. Other cars are an additional barrier from your car getting hit. It is more protected from dirt/debris in windy areas. It is harder to look in windows and have room to break in, they might also have to do it in closer proximity to others if someome comes back to their car. As mentioned, safety is a factor as well, a woman may not want to park far away from others, especially in a dark parking lot. There are more benefits than downsides unless you are antisocial.
@@MyNameIsNotPatrick I believe I am antisocial.
All of these points are void if I get back to my car and it has yet another scratch or dent where the fool next to my has opened their door onto mine or walked by and caught my car. Also it's easier for a thief to hide between 2 cars as opposed to being on view at every angle. It's easier to exit the parking space when the ones next to you are clear. Dust and wind happened while you drive so that's not enough of a benefit.
@@this.handle.is.alreadytaken Yup
Less benefits*

Did you weigh the Tracker? I'm leary if the door can actually hold the weight on my 415G.
So the tracker is around 2300lbs and the door is rated for 3000lbs on our 397TH.
@AroundTheSunWeGo nice. I'm torn of going that route or a 500. Or a VW Lupo. Then there's the Smart.
So far we’ve had a 500 and the Tracker. I’d say the only benefit of the 500 was that it was “newer” so it had more modern features (CarPlay, better sound system, stronger A/C, better economy, etc) But you couldn’t really take it anywhere. The Tracker can go anywhere! Plus it’s easier to load and strap down as well. And easier to work on. Our Fiat spent 4+ months being worked on at the dealership.
We are social creatures. We can't live with out each other, we also can't necessarly live with each other. It's wierd

@@Derrick-l8o It’s ridiculous! lol
@@AroundTheSunWeGo Absolutely ridiculous. Because I always find scratches and nicks on my cars because of careless people. And it's a big reason why I don't park next to anyone. But doesn't matter. There could be an empty parking lot with 10000 parking spots and I park in 4562 spot and right after here comes a whole group of people that want to park in 4561 4563 4564.
